Chapter 78: Chapter 78 Your Wife Ran Away??
The following morning,Jasmine skipped work. Her ’love life’ totally messed with her mood and health. She spent the night at Nicole’s apartment and had a restless night.
Tossing and turning on her bed like an hopeless lovesick woman.
No matter how hard she tried to catch some sleep, her mind always wandered to Kingsley. Thinking about the fight, reflecting on herself.
And her eyes remained locked on her phone for the whole time she was awake...expecting a call to come in. But none came.
It was really upsetting that it ruined her mood totally. When morning came, she woke up with dark rings around her eyes,a pounding headache and sour mood.
When she woke up,she rushed to Check her phone for any missed call(s) from Kingsley. But to her disappointment, there was nothing. He didn’t even call to find out if she was okay or not.
Seems like her words really got to him but she had only spoken nothing but the truth and if he couldn’t deal with it well enough, then he wasn’t worth the headache.
Even though Jasmine tried to brush it off,her face was painted with sadness. She remained solemn as she dragged herself out of the guest room. Her back ached as she massaged the back of her neck.
She was wearing a purple loose pajama pants and sleeve. Her hair was messy as she made her way to the kitchen.
Just as she guessed,Nicole was already up.
"Old habits never die,I guess." Jasmine muttered as she crossed the room to the washing hand basin. Nicole wakes up at 6Am every day like it has been ingrained into her.
Nicole grabbed a small jar of milk from the refrigerator. "It can’t die just like I can’t escape being tormented because of you." She grumbled while setting the jar on the table.
The kitchen waft of flour and soup. Nicole was a better cook than Jasmine obviously...
"I think those times are not even up to two.." Jasmine snorted after washing her face. "That’s my job, actually. Taking care of your shits."
Nicole placed her hands on her hips like a scolding mother to her child. "Still,I was tormented because of you."
Jasmine grinned while sitting on one of the chair around the table. "And what do you mean by that?" She grabbed an apple and took a first bite, waiting for Nicole to answer with something meaningful.
"Your husband’s secretary called my phone nonstop asking after you.." Nicole removed her hands from her hips and grabbed a plate from the ranks of plates. "Did he call you??"
’He’
Jasmine knew she was referring to Kingsley. A soft pang hit her. Kingsley didn’t call her but he had his secretary ask about her from Nicole. "No. He’s childish."
"Or a bad communicator?" Nicole excused herself after dropping the plate on the table. She exited the kitchen to go wake Hailey up.
All alone,Jasmine mulled over what Nicole had said. True,Kingsley was bad at communicating about stuff other than business, calculus and projects—but that wasn’t an excuse to not call her.
The thought of her fight with Kingsley was beginning to upset her even more further.
Hailey came down and they had an hearty breakfast which temporarily diverted her mind from Kingsley. By the end of breakfast,Hailey’s school bus arrived and she bid the ladies goodbye before leaving.
Jasmine helped Nicole clean up—even though Nicole insisted to handle it herself— She had insisted. Nicole dressed up for work. Once dressed with a casual sweatpants and blue cardigan shirt,a brown bag clinging to her arms.
"You look like a touch of fresh air." Jasmine complimented,a kitchen napkin on her hand as she strolled out of the kitchen.
Nicole gave an awkward laugh. "Only you give the most awkward compliments." Her eyes skimmed through the living room. "Will you be fine here alone??" Concern hitched on her face.
Jasmine smiled weakly. "Of course. Don’t worry,I’ll be okay."
Nicole gave Jasmine a hard stare. "Are you sure?"
"Yes. Besides,I’ll be going out soon to grab some coffee."
Nicole grumbled. "I need to get a coffee machine soon."
Jasmine smiled. They didn’t banter much before Nicole left the house.
Moments later,Jasmine was ready to go out. She knew of a sushi and coffee shop not far from Nicole’s apartment. A good coffee might work to improve her mood.
She wore a long black jacket since it was November and the weather was getting chillier. She wore matching blue slacks and white T-shirt underneath. And black sneakers. Overall, she looked really casual.
She stepped outside of Nicole’s apartment.
Shut the door. Turned.
Her movement slowed down when she faced the familiar black headed man with dark eyes...
Looking closely, she could see the line of tension around his eyes. A faint wrinkles on his brows and his eyes were a little hazy as if he lacked sleep.
"Hey..." Kingsley whispered, his hands found their way to his back pockets like a teenager asking his crush out.
Kingsley’s throat popped up and down in nerves that Jasmine thought she hallucinated.
Kingsley elm can’t be nervous, right??
"What are you doing here??" Jasmine finally found her voice to ask. Her hands clutching on her small purse.
"I came to see my wife." Kingsley said shortly but his words carried hint of nerves. He really was nervous.
"Why? Your wife ran away?" Jasmine asked sarcastically. She fold her arms around her chest as she stared at him.
"I hope not." Kingsley pressed his thin lips together before parting them. "She failed to return home last night and it seems she blocked me or something."
"She probably thinks you’re not good enough for her and also, she did not block you." Jasmine frowned a little. It quickly hit her that she had placed her phone on ’Do Not Disturb’ mode.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!
No wonder she didn’t get any calls from him.
Kingsley turned silent. His eyes digged into hers. "And I’m sorry about that. I just want—need her by my side."
Jasmine’s cheeks warmed a little,Kingsley smiled weakly at the sight of her blush. That was progress.
