Chapter 77 I Don’t Answer To You!!
Chapter 77: Chapter 77 I Don’t Answer To You!!
Shimmering anger rushed into Jasmine’s veins that instant. Her stare became cold as she rebuked Kingsley with an unconcealed feisty. "You don’t get to do that with me.." she ground out. "You don’t get to leave me to be with your Ex-fiancee at a hotel and come here acting like a jealous fucking husband!"
A flash of surprise crossed Kingsley’s face but it disappeared as quickly as it came. And then, his expression was replaced by a burning inferno. "You’re my wife, Jasmine. And I have every right to worry about the people around you."
"Contract wife!" Jasmine pointed out. Her eyes swirling with defiance.
"Still, Wife!" Kingsley staked closer, his blood boiling in fury and... Jealousy.
Jasmine subconsciously took a step back. The room seemed to have suddenly dropped in temperature because of the sweat that soaked her back. Kingsley’s gaze on her prickled her skin, sending shockwaves through her spine.
"You’re engaging yourself in Jack’s little game and I don’t fancy it..." His chilly eyes landed on the roses on the table, and a sickening feeling crept up his chest. "And Roses??" His eyes flashed back to Jasmine’s, "You even accepted roses from him!"
Jasmine twisted her lips. She didn’t accept the gifts! They were sent to her office! Her assistant had brought it over.
But No, she wasn’t going to explain anything to him. He can’t just weave himself into her private life all because they lived in the same house and happened to be married. "Kingsley Elm..." she enunciated each word, "What I do and did not do is none of your business."
"And you listen, Jasmine. I’m going to repeat it so it sinks into your head..." Kingsley thundered. "I am your husband, Jasmine! And You are mine!"
"And I put it to You, Kingsley Fucking Elm." Jasmine cursed. "You don’t own me! I am not your property. I don’t answer to you." Her lips shook a little due to the rush of too many emotions in her. Anger, sadness, and a profound sense of loss. "You chose your ex-fiancée and so be it."
There. Again, there was this accusation.
"I chose nobody over you, Jasmine. It’s all In your head." Kingsley defended. "And I’ll pretend that you didn’t just cuss me."
Jasmine thinned her lips. "Why? You hate it when things don’t go your way and now you feel offended?? You didn’t blink twice before you cancel our Chicago vacation to come running into your crippled Ex-fiancée’s arms and now that another man sent me roses, you want to bring down the roof and claim your position as my husband??" She drawled out in anger. "What gives you that right, huh??"
Silence.
Seeing how mute he was, Jasmine probed even more further. "What made you think you could just come over to my office and mark your territory??" Shaking her head, A look of disgust resurfaced in her eyes. "Just leave."
"Jas—"
"Leave!" Jasmine cut him off impatiently. Her lips pressed tightly in anger, her chest rising and falling in quick succession as if she had participated in a marathon race. "Just Go." She whispered at the end.
Kingsley’s fingers dug into his palm, making a tight fist till his knuckles turned white. His teeth sank into his lower lip, clenching his jaw. He stared at Jasmine momentarily, different emotions twirled in the depths of his eyes. The majority of the emotions were ones he couldn’t quite comprehend. Unspoken words hung over them like a shelter, threatening to break them.
Without being reminded, Kingsley turned and left. He slammed the door after him, causing the door to shake a little with the force at which he shut the door.
Now left alone in the office, Jasmine’s legs shook, they gave out on their own making Jasmine wobble onto her chair. Her suppressed sob that she had been holding in for the longest burst out. Her chest grew tight as she sobbed silently in her office.
She hated this effect that Kingsley had on her. She hated that he could make her happy in one moment and also switch up her mood the next.
Her tears flooded her face as she pushed aside the bunch of roses from the table and rested her head there. Her shoulder sagged, and her back went rigid as she wept silently. Hoping this feeling would pass over her.
But a disturbing phone call broke her, pulling her out of her sea of gloominess. She pushed her head off the table and reached for her phone, her eyes landed on the box Kingsley had come with. Curiosity snaked its way into her mind, causing her to open the lid of the box.
Surprise engulfed her. On the box was a pendant with bright diamonds made with three carats. She immediately recognized the pendant. It was a newly made design by Del Romero, a famous Spanish jeweler. And this pendant named Rosa Pel was only available in just a few stores. And according to the news, there were only four of them. The president’s wife got the second piece. Del Romero gifted his wife the first-hand piece. Hers could be the third or the fourth piece but either way, she had a Rosa Pel.
Jasmine bit her inner cheek, her cheeks warmed. But the sadness and emptiness was still there. She had also grown up in wealth but with their level, she wouldn’t have been able to access any of Del Romero’s products. He was a proud man whose products were scanty but valuable.
Not every prestigious or influential family could get his jewelry. Even to buy a wristband from him, one had to make an appointment a year prior to the date they would get it. Sometimes, access to the goods is denied too. It was too much trouble. But Kingsley got it. One way or the other which swept Jasmine off her feet.
But still, that looming sadness was there. Her phone rang again, reminding her of that first call she neglected. She quickly picked up her phone but her face dulled at the sight of the number. It was the I-thought-of-you-and-can’t-seem-to-move-on—Jack Raven.
"Did you get my gifts??" Jack’s bubbling voice came from the other side the moment Jasmine answered the call. His familiar voice made her stomach drop, and a faint sense of danger slipped into her mind.
Jasmine clutched her phone tightly, fighting the sickening feel growing at the pit of her stomach.
She tried to press down the stubborn and potent feeling, Jasmine retorted. "And what games are you playing by sending me a Thanksgiving present??"
Jack said smugly. "It’s just a harmless gesture. Maybe because we’ve had something going on between us then and..."
"Cut the bullshit." Jasmine snarled. Already so pissed by the delay and the ’too many talks.’ "Your Roses are going into my bin. And here’s a warning never to send me any stuff again." Jasmine scowled, surprisingly even more vicious that day than usual.
"Hey, relax, Jasmine. You seem triggered by my simple act of care." Jack probably had a smirk on his face which irked Jasmine.
"Go to hell with your care. I am not triggered by you!" Jasmine defended but she knew it was all a lie. Everything about Jack triggered her to the bone, making fear resurrect in her on their own accord.
Not wanting to spend another moment discussing with the man who murdered her, Jasmine ended the call and blocked his number.
Jack’s sudden interruption in her life made her realize the sudden pause in her revenge plan.
By now, Jack should have been dwelling with the worms. Begging for redemption while she walked all over him.
Kingsley...He had offered to help but Jack was still there. Standing as a constant reminder of her pain.
But remembering the feud between her and Kingsley, Jasmine wasn’t sure she would want to bring up this issue with him. She was still mad at him.
Jasmine didn’t linger. She grabbed her bag, tucked the pendant box into her bag, and left the office. She dumped the Roses in the bin on her way out.
She got into her car and drove out of the garage, heading to Nicole’s apartment.
A few moments later in Nicole’s living room, Jasmine massaged her forehead, trying to lessen the ache there. Nicole was almost pulling the roof down.
Nicole clocked off work early just like Jasmine and they had some girly chats which led Jasmine to divulge what happened back in Chicago and currently happening.
Nicole made it her deal to rant about it. Almost biting the air. "In as much as I am scared of your husband and also grateful for what he’s done so far..." Nicole snapped, exaggeratedly waving her hands. "I want to kick him in the balls for treating you like that! He has no right to make you sad!!" She was ’breathing fire’ in anger. Jasmine just stared at her best friend with a smirk on her face. "Stop smiling, Jasmine! This is serious! Your husband is about to slip out of your hand!"
Jasmine pouted her lips. ’Oh, Right.’
