Reborn Heiress: Married To My Ex-Husband's Rival
Chapter 76 Happy Thanksgiving

Chapter 76: Chapter 76 Happy Thanksgiving

"Getting to my office took more than a decade." Sarcasm was laced in Kingsley’s words. His eyes were still on his laptop as he typed something out.

Raymond had a tight face as he strode into the office with the pale-looking Marshal behind him.

Marshal cleared his throat in embarrassment. Raymond’s threatening words slipped into his mind again and his face turned grim. "Boss Elm..." he acknowledged and finally, Kingsley looked up from his laptop.

His eyes went from Raymond who was tucked in the corner and then, to Marshal who was standing in front of his desk.

"Raymond finally told you his piece of mind about your affairs with his late mother??" Kingsley asked, his eyes innocent. But his words sent a bunch of embarrassment to Marshal.

Marshal flushed a little. His head lowered. Raymond just kept staring at Marshal with a calm look, and calculative eyes as if watching his prey. Expecting his prey to go astray so he could strike.

A thick moment of silence flooded the room. Marshal, who was under the scrutinizing gazes of the men felt the room was closing in on him.

Kingsley’s stare made him feel rather too self-conscious, hoping he hadn’t wet His pants yet. Raymond’s killer gaze almost ripped his skin off, the heat rushed up his back, causing a deep shiver down his spine. A shiver that had nothing to do with the weather.

The tension between the trio didn’t last long. Kingsley cleared his throat. "By the way, I want you, Marshal..." he paused.

Marshal raised his gaze to meet Kingsley’s eyes halfway.

Kingsley continued. "...While bringing the photos down, I also want you to dig deep into the Raven’s group. I need to get my hands on something that can fully dirty Jack Raven’s image to the point where other shareholders are unwilling to work with him." Kingsley’s eyes flicked over to Raymond. "And you, get a good apartment for her."

’For her!’

Raymond immediately guessed it was ’Vanessa’ Kingsley was referring to. He nodded solemnly. "I will do that."

Kingsley propped his elbows on the table, his calculative eyes seemed to have wandered. "I need some men to tail Vanessa’s every moment. Marshal, find a way to hack her phone too. I need evidence. I need to know her motives for coming back."

He needed to quickly wrap up the issues with Vanessa and reconcile with Jasmine.

Jasmine.

She once again found a way to slip herself back into his head in an annoying-pleasing way. Kingsley felt sick at the bit of his stomach again. The supplements that he usually keeps in his drawer have been disposed of.

For a while, he had been getting better. Even his therapist confirmed that he has greatly improved. This motivated him to get rid of his drugs. But now, he couldn’t seem to think straight without Jasmine popping up in his head.

Her sad eyes. Calm—chilling smile. A smile that divulged a series of emotions buried underneath them.

’Would she forgive me after this??’

That big question lingered in his head in a growing weight, trampling on his theory. All he wanted was to find out the real reason Vanessa was back but it seems it has cost him something more important. His ’Relationship’ with Jasmine. The most annoying part—he knew all this bullshit with Vanessa wasn’t worth it. Not one bit.

’I’ll get this done and over with soon.’

Kingsley muttered to himself like a promise.

Marshal spoke up. "Is that all, sir?" His eyes darted to Raymond who was suddenly standing next to him.

Kingsley sensed the tension coming from Marshal. But the last thing he would want to engage himself in was the matter between Marshal and late Mrs. Schnitzel. Raymond could take care of his shits.

"Yes. That’s all for now." Kingsley leaned back. His usual scowl formed on his face as he watched Marshal leave the room. Raymond cleared his throat.

"Boss..."

Kingsley waved him off dismissively. "I know."

Raymond sighed. "Just to remind you that she recently underwent surgery. Stress like this—"

Kingsley cut him off. "Channel that advice into improving whatever you have with Miss Nicole Morgan."

Raymond’s eyes went wide. Kingsley scoffed internally. Raymond probably thought he had no idea about his business that hit the rock with Nicole, Hailey’s mother.

"You’re the father of her daughter?" Kingsley picked up a file on his desk, opening the front page.

Raymond’s shoulder slumped. "I wish."

"Fool." Kingsley didn’t look up from the file.

His statement made Raymond confused. Not knowing what he did or said wrong.

"Go get her pregnant and keep her." Kingsley’s statement had a sarcastic edge to it.

Raymond shifted in his standing position. "Yeah. Great advice for the year. I wonder how I haven’t thought of that."

Kingsley glared at him, his hands on the file tightened a little. "Did you just sarcastically talk to me??"

Raymond shook his head, feeling the sudden heat that was starting to encompass his chest. "No. Sir. I’m just saying..."

"I know it’s not easy. So fuck out of my office since you can’t get a woman." Kingsley looked down at the file again, his brows formed into a sword-like nature. A little scowl that seemed like his default expression replaced his face.

Raymond bowed his back a little before leaving. Not sure what Kingsley meant when he said ’Get her pregnant and keep her.’

Jasmine dumped her phone into her bag. Kingsley has been calling her nonstop since it clocked 4 P.m. It was almost closing hours at the Trevor’s group.

He had sent Text messages too. Asking if she would love to go out with him for dinner in a newly opened sushi spot.

That was tempting though. Jasmine loved sushi but she had been unable to eat one since her surgery.

It was exactly 5 Pm. Jasmine dropped the last employee document on the other piles. She rubbed the bridge of her nose. A tired sigh left her mouth, and her feet hurt like hell.

An embarrassing rumble followed. Jasmine grumbled. She had skipped lunch because she was too focused on working all day. At least, working helped her 5% to avoid thinking about Kingsley. Even though it wasn’t that effective, it worked a little at the very least.

She arranged her bag, ready to leave the office for Nicole’s apartment. She wanted to avoid Kingsley as much as she could. The ’last’ thing she wanted was to confront him about his choices.

Since Kingsley wanted to be with his ex-fiancee. Then, fine. Very well.

’That’s his cup of tea.’ Jasmine grimaced as she wore her heels. Dust the invincible dirt off her skirt and grab her bag from the desk, ready to leave the office but a junior employee skidded in. Blocking her at the doorpost.

"Sorry, but you got a package,Mrs Elm." The young black girl smiled warmly at Jasmine.

Jasmine immediately recognized her as the new employee in her department. Chimanda was transferred from Trevor’s subdivision center in Africa. Chimanda was to fill in the position as Jasmine’s assistant.

"Oh..." Jasmine raised a lazy brow at the bunch of roses. She grabbed the flowers and placed them on her desk. Her lower lip found itself in her mouth and her teeth bit on it.

Jasmine was conflicted for a while. Knowing the roses probably came from Kingsley. Was this his way of apologizing??

Jasmine snorted at the thought. Ridiculous but flattering. Yeah, she loved roses. But Roses couldn’t mend her heart at the moment. Kingsley could though. So why send roses when he could bring himself??

She searched through the flower and grabbed the card attached to it.

The note reads:

’I thought of you and can’t seem to understand why I can’t move on. Happy Thanksgiving in advance, Lolita.’

Yes, it was almost Thanksgiving. And No, the roses aren’t from Kingsley!!

It was from Jack!!

Jasmine frowned deeply. What games was he trying to play with her?? Why send roses?? Why wish her a happy Thanksgiving when her so-called husband hasn’t even done that??

"Who got you roses??" His voice came.

Jasmine jolted back. Her head whipped towards the door and she found Kingsley standing there, clutching a small velvet box in his hand.

He was wearing a charcoal black suit. The first two buttons were undone. His eyes sharp that they almost sliced through her. Thousands of questions dropped from those eyes.

"Umm..." Jasmine trailed off. She took a step away from the desk. Kingsley crossed the room and dropped the box on the desk too.

"Somebody got you roses..." He was calm but his words weren’t. They sounded strange. And if he gritted his teeth too much like that, they might break off.

"He sent them," Jasmine explained shortly. She didn’t do anything. She didn’t cheat. But that feeling to explain was palpable. Like a voice, she couldn’t ignore.

"Oh. It’s a ’He’..." A dark amusement flashed on Kingsley’s face as he grabbed the note and read it aloud. "... I thought of you and can’t seem to understand why I can’t move on. Happy Thanksgiving in advance, Lolita."

As he read the last line. ’Happy Thanksgiving In Advance, Lolita..’ He squeezed the note tightly, intentionally ripping it apart.

Jasmine gasped in annoyance. "Why’d you do that??" She wasn’t happy Jack sent her the note and roses. But Kingsley had no right to destroy her stuff. It was hers—not his!! "Those are mine!!"

Kingsley gave her a sardonic smile, his eyes growing chilly every passing second. "You want other men to gift you roses and call you ’Lolita’ ??" He stacked towards her.

’Fuck, it was November but why was the room suddenly hot??’ Jasmine cried in her head. The room that was normally big started to feel too cramped. Too hot and lacked space for air to come in.

Kingsley leaned closer towards her. "..Or you’ve started indulging other men, Little Wife??" His eyes swirled with something even more darker and it startled Jasmine. Fear ripped through her chest and reverberated to her toes, making them curl in her heels. Her words got caught in her throat as if her vocals had been blocked.

"Tell me." He commanded notoriously. His eyes searched for answers. Anger brewed in their depths. He made a mental note to go break Jack’s fingers after now.
