Chapter 57: Chapter 57 Hollow And Empty

Curled up at the back of his couch was Jack Raven. His knees were pressed close to his chest as he sat on the floor.

On the floor were scattered frames, bottles, and littered drugs. He was sitting at the back of his chair, trembling uncontrollably as he sobbed.

Lucinda left a few minutes ago and now, his emotions are finally catching up with him and he felt so suffocated.

His arms were wrapped protectively around his knees and he remembered all he’s been doing lately and the actions just showed he’s changed for the worst.

It was unlike him. But being with Lucinda...he’s noticed how awful he has become and now, his chest feels tight and breathing seems even more difficult than lifting a mountain.

Jack’s lips shook as he kept sobbing, his head throbbing badly as he wrapped his arms around his knees even more tightly.

He wept silently for what seemed like hours until his phone started to vibrate to indicate an incoming call.

He raised his head and his red nose, ears, and eyes were visible. His hair was glued to his forehead due to the sweat there.

Jack’s serene eyes wandered to his phone that was close to his feet, he slowly reached out to it and held it with his shaky fingers.

He checked and saw that it was his secretary. He numbly swiped the call to the green button and the call got connected.

He placed the phone close to his right ear, his eyes were in a daze as he waited for a reply from the other end.

"Hello, sir? Are you there?" The female’s voice rang out and Jack grimaced as if her voice just sliced something in his head.

He adjusted the phone from his ear and placed it on speaker before dropping the phone on the floor. "Speak." He grumbled.

"Sir, I’ve got some news for you." She spoke up. "Both good and bad news."

Jack sighed tiredly. It was always Bad news lately and it’s not something nice as usual. "Bad news first."

"Three major shareholders sold their shares to an anonymous buyer whose identity is yet to be discovered. Two overseas investors pulled out their funds this morning and it has affected the market. " the secretary reported in one breath.

Hearing all that, that depressing and heavy feeling fell on Jack’s chest again. It seems everything was slipping away from his grip now that Jasmine is no longer part of his life.

It seems she had been his luck charm and since she ditched him, his frustration turned to anger and now, it has moved from anger to desperation.

Yes, Desperation.

He wanted nothing other than Jasmine at this point in his life. He needed her help, he needed the Trevor’s group on his palm. That is the only solution to his problem.

And he was desperate for that solution and he must get it. He must get Jasmine at all costs this time.

All the piles of bad news were choking him and if he could sweep Jasmine off her feet again and make her love him like before when she was obsessed and head over heels in love with him....then 90% of his problems would be solved.

Jasmine was ready to give him her all and whatever he needed. He thought maybe with a little push on the right buttons, Jasmine would start to cultivate feelings for him just like before.

And he would play his game well. It will be smooth now that Lucinda is not really in the picture as of now.

"Get men to find out who this new shareholder is. I don’t want a ghost." Jack breathed.

"Noted, boss." She continued. "And then, good news I guess."

Jack hummed lowly, bored as can be as he rested his head on the back of the couch in a tired manner.

"Mrs Elm was reported to be hospitalized. A nurse in the hospital is my friend and from what she told me, Mrs Elm fell into a coma right after surgery." She giggled at the end of her words.

Meanwhile, silence reigned on Jack’s end. His face was covered in shock. He didn’t expect that news—-Jasmine was in a coma???

His head swelled up a little bit. "Send me the address of the hospital." He said in a hushed tone before ending the call.

His eyes were wide a little as he stared into space. He didn’t know how to react, what to say or do. Jack was well aware of Jasmine’s meningioma and also, he knows this was the fourth time operating on the tumor that keeps growing repeatedly and rapidly.

The news about how she fell into a coma is not a nice piece of news. The fourth surgery was like a hazard. And the possibilities of surviving it are low. Now, she fell into a coma.

"Jasmine is as good as dead now..." Jack muttered. His eyes steeled in hate. Hating the thought of how she chose now to want to die. Of all times, it just has to be this time when he was in the lowest state of mind.

He needed and wanted financial support and leverage over Trevor’s group and only Jasmine could give him all these. She can’t die!

"Jasmine, you can’t die..." shaking his head in denial. "At least, not yet." He muttered, looking like a crazy man who was fed up with life and its bullshits.

Beep! Beep!! Beep!!!

The blaring heart monitor’s beeping sounds resounded in the room. The air was thick with disinfectant and meds.

It was a room painted in white all through. The window was sealed, and on the bed was Jasmine whose nostrils were connected to the airbag.

She was in the hospital white robe, her hair was covered as she slept...In a comatose state.

Standing close to the bed was Mr and Mrs Trevor as they stared at their daughter who looked like she was having a nice rest if the airbags attached to her face were overlooked.

Mr Trevor kept rubbing his wife’s shoulder who was sobbing silently within her. Mr Trevor’s eyes were red as he stood there.

Nicole was at the door, staring into the room where her best friend was confined. She and Hailey just came out after paying their visit to the sleeping beauty. Nicole’s heart was heavy as she held Hailey’s hand tightly while staring at Jasmine who was so pale.

The sight of her lovely friend in such a state was disheartening and it broke Nicole. Nicole quickly placed a hand over her mouth to control her sob.

Hailey too, felt the thick atmosphere and she didn’t whine or bother her mother. She stood there silently until Nicole couldn’t take it anymore and she pulled her from the door.

Nicole hurried to the rows of chairs and sat there, breaking down while her daughter patted her back.

Her actions didn’t pass by Raymond’s sight. He stood silently at the end of the corridor, watching Nicole break down.

The instinct to wrap his arms around her and bring her close to his chest for a warm hug was strong but he remained put. Reminding himself that he was unwanted by Nicole. She doesn’t want him and he didn’t intend to be a pest for a woman who had hurt his feelings regardless of what they shared.

Raymond swallowed hard when Nicole grabbed Hailey and hugged her to herself, the mother and daughter remained in that firm hug and something stirred inside of him.

He imagined himself there, hugging those two females. Seems like a picture perfect in his head when he thought of it.

But again, Raymond could only stand and watch, gawking like a moron that he wasn’t. He couldn’t do anything.

While everyone was in a terrible mood after the doctor had announced that Jasmine fell into a coma, Kingsley immediately got into his car and drove off.

Raymond has been trying to reach him but his phone was out of coverage as if he had relocated to the earth below.

Kingsley wasn’t in good shape when he left the hospital and till that moment, he was not yet back. Raymond worried Kingsley would get himself into trouble. That was something common whenever he was in the worst moods.

He destroyed and ruined stuff.

While Raymond panicked, Kingsley was in the outskirts of town...on top of his car, his hair was all over the place, and his red eyes staring into a far distance. His body was sun-kissed, and his downcast figure was mirrored by the sun that was moving back to the horizon. The sky was yellow, a contrast to Kingsley’s life which had suddenly turned frozen and cold.

His thin shirt was in a struggle with the wind that blew past.

Within kingsley was a hollow abyss that felt too deep, empty just like his soul at that moment. He didn’t want to think of anything else as he remained sitting on the top of his car that was parked in a lonely street ... .a cemetery ground. The very place where his parents were buried.

His heart was too heavy to speak but he hoped his dead parents could feel how sad he was and how life seemed to have been toying with his mental health since they left him in this cruel world that knows nothing but how to inflict pain and injuries in his wounds.
