Chapter 56 I Lost Out On Jasmine
Chapter 56: Chapter 56 I Lost Out On Jasmine
Outside the waiting room the following morning, it was a little crowded.
Mr and Mrs Trevor were sitting on the rows of chairs outside the operating room. Nicole and Hailey sat with them.
Mrs Trevor placed her head in her palms as she lowered her head, muttering silent prayers. Her husband sat close to her, his eyes were shut as he rested his head on the wall.
The tension between them was palpable, everyone was eaten by anxiety as they waited.
Nicole stood up from the chair and walked down the long corridor, silently praying, her cheeks started to get wet with her tears as she prayed for a safe surgery.
Meanwhile, Kingsley was inside Doctor Williams’ office. He sat on the couch, staring at the piles of photos on the desk.
Raymond was standing close to the door as he watched Kingsley stare like a moron. He didn’t say a word. Raymond tried as much as possible to be invincible knowing Kingsley must be passing through a tough time.
Kingsley’s eyes remained glued on Jasmine’s photos, he had asked for photos of her in the surgery room.
His eyes were cold as he stared at Jasmine who was seemingly sleeping soundly on the bed, her hair was covered. Just her pale face that a bright light was focusing on.
Kingsley bit his thumb, each moment of wait felt like a thousand knives piercing him. The surgery started a few hours ago at exactly 10 Am, it was noon and Doctor Williams had not yet dialed his number.
He didn’t want to sit in the lobby with her family and friends, he just wanted to be far from there.
"Raymond, you can go join them over there. I’m sure you would want to be by Nicole’s side." Kingsley’s low voice came out. Not the usual cold and agile tone, he sounded weak. Drained. Exhausted. And burnt out.
Raymond shook his head. "I’d rather stay here with you."
"What about Nicole?"
"She doesn’t want me near her." Raymond retorted, a little at the edge but Kingsley didn’t pick on that.
He didn’t argue further and just brought his gaze back to the pictures. He took one from amongst the piles. It was a photo of her last night.
The previous night, Jasmine had tucked him closer and took pictures together with him. His face was bland in the picture, a clear opposite of hers...her face was covered in a big hearty smile as if her life wasn’t in danger. As if she wasn’t the patient.
She was bold, strong even. And this trait is something Kingsley most admired in her.
He too had his problems and he always wallowed in his pain. Getting high on drugs, drenching himself in a cold bath, and lying on a cold floor, whimpering.
Never had he sensed Jasmine like that, she was always lively, too lively as if the world had been pleasant to her.
He hardly sees her break down, instead, she gets so sinister and it always brings a smile to Kingsley’s face.
Reeling from all these small details, Kingsley realizes how much he adores and respects Jasmine. He realized how strong she was and she was just an ideal inspiration for him.
"Fuck.." Kingsley whimpered in a low tone, he blinked back his tears as he stared out of the office window.
Raymond just silently watched him handle his emotions so well. He knew Kingsley wanted to burst out but suppressing it.
Kingsley clutched the picture tightly but not too tightly so as not to ruin the photo. His mind went back to her sleeping face, always so peaceful. Not a wrinkle or slight frown that indicates a discomfort.
"Do you think I did the right thing?" Kingsley whispered, his eyes lowering from the window to the cold tiled floor. His hair fell back on his face as he lowered his head.
"Allowing her to carry out the surgery?? I think you did the right thing." Raymond explained.
Bringing his almost lifeless eyes to Raymond’s face, dark circles around them, Kingsley asked again, a little aggrieved. "What if she..." he swallowed back his words. And Raymond sighed.
"Nicole told me that Jasmine said she wanted to live for you too." Raymond smiled a little at the end of his statement.
Hearing that, Kingsley’s eyes lit up a little. "She said that?" His voice came out small, a sad smile laced on his face.
Raymond nodded.
"I should have cared for her better." Kingsley sounded regretful.
"You did your best."
"I scolded her that night." Kingsley rushed out. The thought of it was one of the factors eating him raw within. He blamed himself for causing her stress. He thought he was responsible for putting Jasmine’s health in danger.
"Still doesn’t change the fact that you cared for her. And you still do.."
"I didn’t do enough." Kingsley countered. His hand let go of the photo and it fell on the side beside him on the couch.
Raymond ran his fingers through his hair. "At least, you made her stay safe for a couple of weeks. Giving her the right diets and paying for her appointments, making sure she sleeps early."
Kingsley didn’t say a word and Raymond continued. "We both know there’s nothing like a curfew from 10 pm. The curfew starts at 12AM. But you dropped it at 10 pm so she could come home early and sleep on time."
"Still isn’t enough. I scolded her, Raymond. I snapped at her. I lost my temper and made her sad..." His eyes started to turn even more redder.
Raymond sighed deeply. "Let’s just wait and hope it all goes well."
Kingsley dropped his head on his palms, his chest growing tight and his vision grew blurry. He could feel the hot tears but he shut his eyes quickly, his eyes burned and his lips pressed tightly, Holding back the tears from falling.
’I’m so sorry, Jasmine.’ He muttered in his head. Guilt gnawed at his heart, his heart growing colder even more. Hating and blames himself for Jasmine’s predicament. Sooner or later, Jasmine’s Meningioma would have acted up but he felt like he made it happen sooner.
The long wait lasted for a few more minutes before Kingsley’s phone binged. Jolting him, he rushed towards his phone on the desk and turned it on.
It was a text from Doctor Williams. Kingsley stared at the text and Raymond rushed to his side too. His eyes are glued to the phone screen. The color slowly drained out of their faces. Most especially Kingsley whose eyes fell and his jaw clenched.

"What are you doing here??" Jack asked as he stared At Lucinda who came to his condo, dressed like a hired assassin. She wore a black hoodie and black pants.
Lucinda hissed. "Let me in." She said while brushing past him and moving into his apartment.
Jack sighed before shutting the door. He turned around to see Lucinda gazing around his apartment with sparkling eyes. She looked amazed.
"Nice condo you have here." She said before bringing her eyes to his face. A smile was on her face as she came nearer.
Jack folded his arms around his chest, he was wearing a white shirt and black pants. His hair was messy and he looked just too bony than the usual flashy and good-looking Jack Raven.
"Lucinda, you wanted space, remember?? How come you are always around me now?" Jack reproached.
Lucinda shrugged. "I just suddenly want to be close to you. You are sick, Jack..." A teasing smile enveloped her face, her lips formed an arc as she grinned. "And I want to know what it feels like for a cancer patient to fuck Me." She winked at the end.
Jack snarled. "You’re a lunatic. I don’t have time for all these, Lucinda. I need rest." He moved to the next couch and laid on it.
Lucinda’s face fell. "You’ve got to be kidding me, Jack. I want you." She snapped furiously.
"Dressing like that?? I’m sick, fine. But that doesn’t make me your puppet!" Jack got annoyed. "If you don’t have anything valuable to say, then leave!"
Lucinda gasped in shock. Jack has never raised his voice at her before. "You’ve changed."
Jack remained mute.
Lucinda bickered. "Why?? Found someone else?? Jack..."
"Leave." Jack groaned.
"No. I won’t leave here until you give me answers to my questions. Reasonable answers!." Lucinda kicked the table close to her leg.
Jack angrily stood up from the couch and pointed at Lucinda, making her eyes go wide in surprise. "You’re vile, Lucinda. I got the time to fully think about things and to be honest..." he gritted out. "You made me lose out on Jasmine."
Lucinda furrowed her brows. "What??"
Jack yelled. Lucinda flinched. "Yes. She somehow found out about my affairs with you and called off the wedding. I wouldn’t have been struggling with my company if I had just gotten married to her!" Lucinda’s face grew pale.
"Wha-what do you mean?" Her eyes darted around in panic.
"I do not want to see you ever again. Get out of my fucking life!" Jack thundered and Lucinda paled.
