Reborn Heiress: Married To My Ex-Husband's Rival -
Chapter 53 Scheduled Surgery
Chapter 53: Chapter 53 Scheduled Surgery
Nicole was hospitalized and she grumbled all through the process of her treatment.
She didn’t feel good leaving Hailey with Raymond but she couldn’t help but bite back all of her complaints.
She couldn’t keep Hailey with her in the room where the doctor was treating her. Raymond was her only Available options.
Hailey was more than happy to stay with Raymond and she wondered how much of talking Hailey would have Raymond engaged in.
True to Nicole’s worries, Raymond and Hailey were in the hospital’s cafeteria because Hailey insisted that she hadn’t had lunch which was true. Raymond took the little girl to grab a bite.
They’ve been there and Raymond sat there helplessly, watching the girl talk and for no reason, Raymond was just staring at her, her personality was as loud as her mother’s.
Hailey was the mini version of Nicole and everything she did just reminded him of Nicole’s younger self that would cling to him, her arms around his neck as she complained about how mean her professor was towards her. How she fought with some girls in school cause they troubled her best friend.
They only dated for six months and within that period, he didn’t get the chance to meet with Nicole’s best friend. Whenever he randomly asked about her best friend, Nicole always said Her best friend was an heiress so she didn’t go out often. They usually meet in school or she goes over to her best friend’s place.
Nicole didn’t give him much details, she was less open towards him. He had always known from day one about how secretive she was.
Who would have thought the ’best friend’ was Jasmine Trevor.
If he had managed to know who this ’best friend’ of Nicole’s was, he would have contacted her the moment Nicole went missing after dropping a breakup letter.
He searched everywhere for her. He had to swallow his fears to go find her in her parent’s house but they chased him out, saying Nicole ran away from home on her own accord.
Raymond met the broken version of himself that year. Nicole never showed up, he waited in the gate of her school to maybe catch a glimpse of her but it seemed she had been removed from the earth. She was nowhere. Nobody else wanted to talk about her. Nicole had no other friend than the best friend he had no idea who it was at the time.
Raymond graduated college and started to work with Kingsley Elm. He achieved all of his goals and followed in his father’s footsteps just like his mother had always wanted.
But the emptiness was there, Nicole wasn’t there to celebrate his victories with him. She left him at the perk of their little love that somehow managed to grow into a heap.
He tried to go out with other girls but everything else felt bland. He tried to date girls but they just didn’t match or compare to Nicole. She was the light in a dark room for him and wherever she goes....there’s never a gloomy second.
That was his Nicole.
Seeing her again, he should be happy. But here he was, with a sad face, staring at the daughter of the woman he wished and dreamed of seeing again.
The woman whose disappearance caused him nights of unrest, constant drowning in alcohol, and a bland love-life with other people. Meanwhile, she went out there to bore a child for another man.
"Uncle, have you tried my mother’s barbecues before?? She grills them so good." Hailey reported before sipping from her fruit juice.
Raymond forced a stretched smile. Nicole’s barbecue—Actually, No. He hasn’t but he would love to.
"No. I haven’t tasted her barbecue." He said to her before uncapping the bottle of water and pouring some into the glass cup. The ice cubes made the water even more chillier.
Raymond gulped every content before placing the cup back on the table and he crossed his arms around his chest. His eyes followed Hailey’s movement.
She wasn’t a picky eater and it made him smile a little. Just like him.
Her emerald-colored eyes and her blonde hair... just show how much semblance she was with her mother, Nicole.
’How did I overlook this many details at the airport? I should have known.’ Raymond thought to himself, his hand found its way to his jaw as he hummed inaudibly. She looked so small and amazingly cute.
The urge to spoil her was quite potent, he wanted to give her more. He just wants to retain that smile on her face. The happy smile that spread on her small face when she was done eating. He wanted it to last.
’Is it because she’s Nicole’s daughter??’ Raymond didn’t know if the love he had for the mother was the one spreading to the daughter but either way, he knew he should back off.
He wanted to remind himself that Nicole’s was someone potential baby’s mama because he checked and didn’t find any rings. Nicole was someone’s unwed Baby’s mama and he knew he needed to stay clear.
And for the little girl, he could buy her stuff but not spoil her because she was someone’s daughter, and the someone—Raymond didn’t think he would ever want to meet the punk who impregnated the lady he loved. And he was sure to punch Hailey’s father in the face because he failed to do the proper thing by getting married to Nicole in the right way and not just stall her.
"Uncle. I’m done." Hailey announced and Raymond paid for the meal and they left the cafeteria.
Hailey did the happy jumps as they went back to the hospital, Raymond sighed deeply.
Some crowd of high school students were rushing towards them and they seemed to be in an argument. Hailey was busy with her happy jumps, not taking precautions.
Raymond quickly grabbed Hailey’s arm and carried her in his arms. Hailey giggled when Raymond lifted her, her hands instinctively wrapped around his neck, hugging him.
Raymond stiffened a little but didn’t drop her, her warm hug made a small smile form on his lips and to be truthful, he loved the feeling and didn’t want it to end.

"It’s okay. You can recruit other top surgeons but I want you there! In that room! You should be the one doing the surgery, others can contribute but you will do it." Kingsley finalized, his eyes digging deep into Doctor Williams’s.
Doctor William tried to say something but Kingsley cut him off again. "You’re the best surgeon I know, Doctor Williams and you have no choice but to operate on my wife."
"Mr Elm, the stakes are high. You want her to undergo surgery??"
"Yes. If she doesn’t, the tumor will keep growing and you saw how much pain she was going through..." Kingsley’s eyes dimmed, and the thought of it shredded his heart. "The last thing I want is for her to continue experiencing such pain."
Doctor Williams kept quiet, the office turning into a drop-dead silence. Kingsley bit on his lower lips, trying to keep his emotions at bay, his fists clenched and unclenched in his sides, making all effort to make them lay besides him. Another heavy sigh left Kingsley’s lips as he whispered. "Please."
The doctor’s eyes snapped wide, and Kingsley balled his fists as he voiced out all of his words. "Only you can save her, I’m trusting you on this." His red eyes met the doctor’s astonished ones. "You’ve saved my life too many times, you’ve done it again and again. I trust you can do the same for my wife."
Doctor Williams’s resolve shattered, crushing to the ground. His gaze softened greatly. A fatherly look replaced his face and he patted Kingsley on the shoulder. "I’ll do everything I can to help Mrs Elm."
Kingsley nodded, his balled fist relaxed. The doctor continued. "The surgeons will arrive here at night. The surgery will be scheduled by 8 Am tomorrow."
Kingsley dragged in a deep air through his nose, his breathing hitched and Doctor Williams added. "Brace yourself for anything."
"She’ll make it," Kingsley said. Much in denial. Or more to comfort himself.
After that, Kingsley nodded before turning around to leave the office and Doctor Williams called from behind him. "You are getting better."
Kingsley paused in his track, his hands that were about to twist the door knob halted. He looked over his shoulder and replied. "She made it so. Please do everything you can tomorrow." With that, he pulled open the door and left.
His shoulder was stiff as tension ran down his spine, he walked past the door of Jasmine’s room. Her parents were in there with her. He didn’t bother to enter as he walked past there, heading to the end of the corridor, the place he had been visiting too often for days now.
With disheveled hair and unshaven beards, Kingsley pushed open the door of the chapel. It was a small room in the hospital where people with faith came to meditate and pray to God.
Kingsley smiled bitterly, he was never a believer but now, he couldn’t help but want to try.
His steps were heavy as he moved towards the alter, the mumbling of prayers from others flooded past his ears as he came nearer. Standing before the altar, everything seemed to have fallen short, his mind was filled with only the thoughts of the woman who had come with light to his dark abyss.
His heart was too heavy and he had heard from the nurses around that this GOD could hear prayers, that he could answer them and reduces burden.
Kingsley’s knees gave out and he fell on his knees, his eyes looking lifeless, his messy hair strayed from each other, and his shirt was glued to his body as he clasped both hands together in a praying motion. He didn’t know where to start from, how it was done but he just wanted God to help his wife. He wanted this burden to pass him.
His eyes shut close, his ears went deadly toned down, and no words could be heard as if time paused for him. Just the chilly air that brushed his cheeks. Kingsley Elm prayed. "Please, Save my wife."
