Chapter 51 You Are Not Allowed To Die!!

Chapter 51: Chapter 51 You Are Not Allowed To Die!!

Jasmine let out a deep sigh, laying her back on the pillow behind her. She was the only one in the ward at that moment.

Her dad left earlier to sort out some things before her mom left afterward to prepare food for her and Kingsley.

Kingsley excused himself to go speak with Doctor Williams regarding her health.

She reached for her phone and dialed Nicole’s number. Since the Friday night, She hasn’t heard anything from Nicole.

The phone rang for a few more minutes before Nicole answered the phone but her voice was low. "Hello, Babe."

Jasmine asked. "Why’re you sounding like that? You okay?"

Nicole coughed from the other end, her voice was strayed. "I caught a fever this morning after the worst hangover ever." Coughing again, Nicole said. "How are you doing? I’m sorry about last night and getting us into.."

"It’s okay, Nic. It’s no one’s fault."

"No, it was my fault. I.." she coughed violently again and then, Hailey’s voice rang from the other side.

"Mommy, you should go to the hospital."

Jasmine seconded with a deep frown on her face. "Yes, you really should."

"No. I’ll be fine before evening, I just need to rest a little." Nicole disagreed but her cough worsened.

Jasmine snarled. "I’m sending my husband’s assistant to come get you at your apartment soon!"

Hearing that Jasmine would send Raymond to her apartment, Nicole raised her tone. "No! Don’t do that!"

"Wait till you see him at your doorpost."

"No—Look, I appreciate that you care but I don’t want to be in the same space as him.." a bitter feeling rose on Nicole’s tongue as if she had eaten something sour.

The previous night was a little too awkward for her to remember. She vomited with him holding her and then, he drove her back home. He wanted to even take off her mask at some point but she managed to escape his grip.

How long was she going to wear a mask?? So it was better not to meet him again!

The last thing Nicole would want was to get involved with her ex-boyfriend. Ever again.

Jasmine bickered. "You don’t take care of yourself and whatever you’re doing right now—running away from medical care, it’s pissing me off!"

Nicole coughed terribly and Jasmine grimaced. She tried to explain. "Jasmine..."

"No. Raymond will come over to your apartment and bring you to the hospital. That’s it." Jasmine finalized. "If not for my sake, do it for Hailey’s sake, she’ll be resuming school soon and the last thing she needs is a sick mother."

There was a short pause on Nicole’s ending. "Fine. I’ll do it for the sake of you both." Nicole could only agree. Her face turned a little more paler than before.

Thinking about seeing Raymond again, her stomach churned. Her heart twisted in ache. But she knew she couldn’t make Jasmine any more worried for her.

After that brief conversation, Jasmine ended the call. Just then, the door creaked open, pulling her attention towards it.

Kingsley and Raymond walked right into the ward. Raymond was carrying a fruit basket while Kingsley was holding a small box.

Seeing him, Jasmine sighed in contentment. Since she came to the hospital, Kingsley hadn’t returned home, he had been busy trying to make sure the surgery would be done and he saw to it that she received the best care.

"Hello, Mrs Elm. I hope you’re feeling much better today." Raymond said," I brought you fruits. I heard you love apples a lot."

"Oh. Thank you so much, Raymond. That’s so thoughtful of you." Jasmine’s eyes lightened at the sight of the fresh apples amongst several other fruits in the basket.

Raymond dropped the basket on the small table closest to Jasmine’s bed before taking a step back.

Kingsley kept the box he had been carrying on the floor near the table. He looked around before turning to face Raymond. "What do you think we’re missing?"

Jasmine raised a brow when Kingsley asked Raymond that question. She wondered what they were talking about.

Raymond hummed. "We already brought her clothes yeah? I don’t think we need anything more..." his eyes brightened a little. "Oh.." turning to face the puzzled Jasmine, he asked. "Do you read books??"

Jasmine inclined her head to the side. "What are you men up to??"

Kingsley came near and sat on the foot of the bed, his eyes were exhausted. His hair was even more messier now, he hadn’t taken a shower because he had been accompanying her since she was admitted in the hospital. There were dark circles around his eyes, signifying the lack of sleep.

"We want to make your short stay at the hospital comfortable. I know that after the surgery, you’ll have to return home, but I don’t want to make you bored and staring at the hospital walls and all that stuff.." Kingsley breathed, his hand slowly made its way to his left shoulder and pressed on it to relieve the pain he felt there. He dropped his hand after that, masking the wince.

Jasmine remained quiet until Raymond spoke up. "We can get you tons of books you can read until your surgery is done."

Jasmine looked at Raymond and then to Kingsley who was staring mindlessly at her, looking deep into her face as if he was trying to engrave her image in his head.

Jasmine chuckled a little in amazement. "You both need to take things easy. This is not a big deal..."

"It is a big deal For me." Kingsley said flatly. His eyes peered at her. The only thing he wanted to think about was how she kept enhancing in beauty every day. Each day marks a prettier version of her. And it was so sad that she had to suffer this much.

"Kingsley..." Jasmine tried to argue.

"Let me." He said, his eyes were deep in sorrows as he said that. Just seeing her beautiful eyes, reality bit him.

’She could probably—’ That vile thought came to his head. ’Anything can happen during surgery. There’s just a slim chance for survival and...’

Kingsley sighed and lowered his head to look at the bed, his hand clutched the sheets under him. Jasmine could only watch, her feelings were indescribable as she looked at Kingsley struggling with his emotions.

Noticing the thick air, Raymond excused himself, leaving the two couples to themselves.

The clicking of the door resounded before the piercing silence that followed. Nobody said a word. Jasmine quietly stared at Kingsley.

Raising his eyes, unfamiliar emotions danced in his eyes, he didn’t bother to conceal his sadness as he moved closer to Jasmine and grabbed her hands. Staring deep into her eyes as if willing her to see where he was coming from. "Look, Jasmine..." his eyes darted between hers, and Jasmine’s eyes slowly started to blur, covered in tears. "You know, I’ve always admired you for your strength and resilience."

Kingsley smiled weakly, placing his hand on the side of her hair and rubbing her hair slowly. "You’re quite courageous and a little too savage."

Jasmine chuckled and it only made the tear slip from her eyes and Kingsley quickly wiped it off. "Hey, don’t cry. You’re Kingsley Elm’s wife." He said softly and smiled proudly when Jasmine didn’t refute that statement—when she didn’t remind him that she was just his contract wife.

Jasmine laughed. "Yeah. I am."

Kingsley nodded, going silent, just staring at her...he lost his other words. It seems no amount of words could describe all he felt and was feeling at that moment. Words weren’t good enough.

The thousands of unspoken words made the air around them even more thicker. They could only stare, trying to mask the twirling pain, the amount of misery surrounding Jasmine’s condition. The uncertainties and the fear of the unknown pressed hard on them.

Unable to speak no more, Kingsley wrapped his arms around Jasmine, and she immediately turned into jelly. With heavy hearts, they both remained in a warm embrace. Jasmine melted, holding back her tears, she didn’t want to wallow in self pity knowing damn well that this might be the end of her.

Kingsley shut his eyes tightly as he hugged Jasmine to his chest, his heart beating loudly in his ears. He bent a little to kiss her nape, mumbling. "You have to live. You are not allowed to die, Jasmine."

Jasmine smiled sadly," I can’t decide on that.."

Kingsley pulled away from the hug, cupping her face in his hands, his eyes searched hers as he explained. "You can. You just have the stay strong and fight this..." his thumb rubbed her cheek. "Please..." he begged.

Jasmine placed both hands on the top of his hands on her cheek, the sensation on her palm made her smile a little even though she was already feeling worn out. "It can be done?"

Kingsley nodded. "Yes. Yes, it can. You don’t give as much credit to yourself as you deserve." His eyes held her gaze firmly. "You hate Jack, right?"

Jasmine’s face chilled, nodding with dark eyes. Kingsley nodded along with her. "Then channel all your strength to survive this, I have a lot planned out in your favor and your revenge will be finally done." He knew the right button to push.

Jasmine’s grip on his hands tightened. Kingsley immediately guessed right that he had struck a cord. "You have a lot to live for, Jasmine. Be it revenge against the one person who hurt you..." he paused.

His eyes went to her lips and then back up to her face. "...Be it for the people who love you."

Jasmine sucked in a deep breath and breathed. "Kiss me."

Kingsley’s eyes went wide, his jaw went slack for a brief period. Jasmine was more than impatient as she grabbed his collar, not giving him time to think, her eyes were tightly shut. Her heart was in her throat as she smashed her lips on his, claiming those mouth.
