Reborn Heiress: Married To My Ex-Husband's Rival
Chapter 50 As Gloomy As The Moon

Chapter 50: Chapter 50 As Gloomy As The Moon

"Oh, my poor baby. You’ll be fine dear." Mrs Margaret said as she hugged Jasmine who smiled weakly against her mother’s shoulder.

Her eyes went up to see her father who was standing there with both hands in his pocket. He was staring right at Jasmine. Since she got married to Kingsley, this was the first time she would see a look of deep affection in her father’s eyes.

She thought he was mad at her that he won’t show up or concern himself with her. Shockingly, he came along with her mother.

Kingsley didn’t interrupt the conversation, he sat on a stool close to the wall, watching the scene unfold before him. Seeing the family sharing this type of moment, he appreciated their relationship—even if it didn’t include the dad. Mr Trevor wasn’t Kingsley’s favorite. Definitely not in his good book.

He watched how the mother and daughter communicated and he slightly envied Jasmine. A sad feeling enveloped him at the thought of his parents.

"I will be alright, Mom. This isn’t the first time operating on the tumor, so don’t worry." Jasmine assured her mother but it only made her burst into tears and a round of hugging and comforting resumed.

Kingsley grimaced. He found out Jasmine had operated on the Meningioma thrice before. This surgery will be fourth and he doesn’t feel good about her going through this pain repeatedly.

Kingsley made a mental note to discuss this with Doctor Williams.

Mr Trevor cleared his throat, looking at Jasmine—totally ignoring the presence of Kingsley, not that Kingsley wanted to discuss with Mr Trevor either. "I was planning to fly you out of the country to receive treatment at Doctor Park’s hospital."

Kingsley snapped his eyes towards Mr Trevor. His mood dampened even more as he tightened his face in irritation. Jasmine pulled away from her mother’s hug. She looked at Kingsley who was glaring before looking at her father. "Dad, I can’t. Doctor Williams is capable—"

"So is Doctor Park. He was your doctor until he left. We can fly you over to California to get your surgery done." Her father argued.

Jasmine frowned. "Doctor Park has operated on me thrice and the tumor keeps growing. What if he’s the incompetent one?? Let’s give Doctor Williams a try." She didn’t like that she was arguing with her father.

Mr Trevor snarled," Doctor Park is my friend and has been the family’s doctor for years before—"

"Mr Trevor," Kingsley called out, his brows were knitted, and his eyes squinted. "Enough. Jasmine will receive treatment wherever she wants." He finalized.

Jasmine gulped down her saliva at the energy Kingsley oozed out. The air of dominance made her father unable to find his speech on time. Kingsley was sitting close to the window and the sun-kissed his skin...his sun-kissed skin was well-toned and the hair that rested on his face gave him a Get-you-into-trouble-but-worth-it type of vibes. Jasmine was pulled—he was handsome, charming, confident, and could be mistaken for arrogance.

Margaret wasn’t left out, she was amazed at how confident her son-in-law was. She was never a judgemental person so the reputation of this fine man didn’t get to her.

But on the other hand, Mr Trevor could only glare at Kingsley and do nothing much. He tried to refute Kingsley’s words but they didn’t hold water. "She is my daughter."

Kingsley’s face froze. "She is my wife." His loathing for Mr Trevor didn’t even bother to hide, it was evident and shining on his face as he mocked his father-in-law. "She is legally married to me, accept that beautiful fact and learn to live with that." He narrowed his eyes and Mr Trevor curled his fists as his jaw clenched. "She’s a grown lady. Not your little girl from a few years ago."

His words made Mr Trevor’s eyes go round. Kingsley’s words indeed stroke a cord and it made Mr Trevor powerless. Jasmine getting married was something he never truly liked. He had to compromise when the groom was Jack.

The worst happened when Jasmine suddenly got married to Kingsley instead. Giving his daughter’s hand for marriage was already so painful but to a man with such a terrible reputation???

It was like a bone stuck in his throat. Too difficult for him to digest. This got him mad and till that very moment, he was trying everything within his power to make sure Jasmine leaves this man. Even if it means bringing back all the men she once loved back into her life, he would do it.

Kingsley stood up from the stool and walked towards Jasmine. Mrs Margaret smiled as she adjusted a little to give the husband and wife some privacy.

Her eyes were sad, sad for her daughter who had to pass through pain again and again but there was a small smile on her face...contented to see her daughter being loved and taken care of.

Kingsley was the one who had taken Jasmine to the hospital and the doctor also recounted how Jasmine had been eating good and healthy food which reduced the risks of her Meningioma—She could only thank Kingsley for paying attention to these details. Margaret was grateful for Kingsley’s presence in her daughter’s life.

Kingsley smiled weakly at Jasmine who was gazing deep into his eyes, their nose almost brushed against each other’s.

Kingsley’s and Jasmine’s breathing mixed as they stared at each other for a while, forgetting the other people in the room. Kingsley’s eyes slowly looked down at her lips before bringing his eyes to her face again. "Does it still hurt?" He whispered, his hand went to her back, stroking it.

Jasmine absentmindedly shook her head in denial, a little lost and her head went fuzzy— he was the only thing she could see at that moment as she became drunk on his scent and he was far too intoxicating.

"Good. I’ll be right back." His voice was unusually soft, almost inaudible as if he was seeking her permission to leave.

Jasmine swallowed hard when he pecked her on the forehead, a burst of butterflies filled her stomach.

Kingsley pulled away almost immediately that she didn’t get the chance to enjoy the warm feeling his kiss spread on her body.

’He’s no longer mad at me??’ Jasmine mused in her head, staring blankly as he left the room, shutting the door after him. His footsteps faded away.

Jasmine sighed. They haven’t had the chance to talk about what happened the previous day. She had yet to apologize for going against him and getting into trouble—unintentionally. And definitely, she thinks she also deserves an apology from him too for yelling at her, telling her to stay miles away from him.

His words had made fear gripped her, he sounded so repulsive and irritated at her. It was the first time he lost his cool.

’Was he triggered by something??’ Jasmine thought to herself but just then, her mother came back to sit on the bed, Diverting Jasmine’s mind from her thoughts.

"My dear, he loves you.." her mother had a kind smile on her face, her eyes brewing with emotions...she looked contented.

Jasmine smiled wryly. Not sure if that was entirely true. Kingsley just feels responsible for her and that’s all.

’Right?’

The thought of that didn’t sit well with her for some reason but she gulped down her dissatisfaction.

Jasmine’s father excused himself too, leaving the room for the women since it seemed to him that they had a lot to talk about.

Mr Trevor shut the door after him but he remained standing close to the door, his blank face from earlier changed.

Mr Moore Trevor sighed deeply, his eyes darting around for a while before they rested on the white wall opposite him.

His hand found its way to his chest as he pressed hard on it. His eyes went red, tears gathering from every side around his eyes. His body shook. He tried to blink back the tears he was holding back but a single tear drop left his eyes.

"Oh my child.." he whimpered, wiping off the tears that escaped his eyes. His chest hurt as he pressed hard on it. He quickly used both hands to cover his mouth as he cried, his eyes shutting as he sobbed.

His usual cold persona was stripped off,his walls breaking to reveal a vulnerable father whose only aim was to take away his daughter’s pain...

"I wish I could take all of her pain." He thought aloud to himself in between sobs. He helplessly went to the rows of chairs assembled outside the ward Jasmine was in. He sat there, his head lowered as he dwelled in sorrow.

Kingsley silently watched Jasmine’s father break down. He didn’t come to meet the man or maybe, console him.

He knew this was a phrase they all needed to pass and it was better for Mr Trevor to be left alone, to reconcile with his emotions.

Kingsley remained leaning against the wall at the far end of the long corridor, his eyes locked on the body of Mr Trevor. But his eyes were empty—almost lifeless, lacking warmth.

He excused himself earlier knowing what was at stake and breaking down in the presence of Jasmine and her family was of no use. Though Jasmine didn’t want to talk about it, they all knew that the fourth surgery was deadly—there was little to no chance of survival.

Thinking about the possibility of losing Jasmine—Kingsley, yet again, felt his hatred for the world grow. He hated how the universe played such tricks on him without his consent. Giving and taking back from him. He would be happy one moment and the next moment, the world takes away the source of his happiness until his life was as gloomy as the moon. Again. It never ends. It keeps going in that cycle.
