Chapter 44: Chapter 44 Can I Get Rid Of You??
A heavy sigh escaped Jasmine’s lips, her eyes remained glued on the white ceiling above her as she lay on her back on the bed.
Then, a giggle escaped her lips when she remembered the state she found herself in early that morning.
Because of the nightmare, Kingsley didn’t let go off her, his arms were wrapped around her as they both slept.
She woke up to see him still hugging her, he only excused himself when he wanted to go make them breakfast.
"Heh heh..." Jasmine chuckled but she quickly pressed a pillow on her face, trying to suppress her smile. Her lips were tightly pressed together, her lips slightly quivering.
Realizing what she was doing, she chided herself. ’Get a hold on yourself, Jasmine!!.’ She pulled the pillow off her face and ditched it on the bed. She dragged in a deep breath and let it out from her mouth....
She remained quiet for a while before jumping out of her bed and getting prepared for the day.
She happily skipped to the bathroom, her gaze remained on the mirror as she washed her mouth, but unfortunately, she couldn’t stop herself from thinking about last night.
His comforting words came out in whispers, telling her. ’Hush, You’re safe with me.’ ’I won’t let anyone hurt you.’ ’Wifey,Be calm.’
Thousands of butterflies formed in her stomach, swirling in excitement that Jasmine’s face flushed red.
She shook her head, trying to get the thoughts out of her head but then, she remembered how his arms snaked their way into her shirt, gently and slowly, his warm big palm patted her back, directly on her skin as if transferring support.
His chin was pressed on the top of her head as she pressed her face into his chest, allowing him to pat her to sleep again, allowing him to make her forget about the nightmare.
The nightmares were always repetitive, one from the time Jack had stabbed her on the rooftop. She only started to dream about that particular scene recently...after Jack made a comeback and attacked her in the restaurant’s restroom, it woke a deep fear within her.
It made her realize that she wasn’t just killed by him in her previous life and then she had the rare chance of rebirth, this life, she felt real fear. Jasmine was scarred by the incident which left a deep lasting stigma on her.
The day in the garage confirmed this institution she had always had. A deep sigh escaped Jasmine’s lip, her face fell at the depressing thoughts.
’I wonder if I need therapy.’ She mused but then, her phone started to vibrate loudly from the bedroom, disrupting her thoughts that sounded lame to her.
She hurriedly washed her toothbrush and mouth, she dried her hands with the hand towel hanging on the counter.
Grabbing her phone that was ringing on top of her table, a sweet smile spread across her face. "Hey, Nic." She said, sitting on the bed with that smile still on her face.
"Oh meh, It’s been a while since we last talked. Jeez, I need to fill you up with whatever heroic stuff I have been doing." Nicole’s cheerful voice came from the other end.
"Surprise me." Jasmine giggled.
"I found a new school for Hailey which she’ll be resuming next week Monday. Also, I will be checking out my new office tomorrow and signing whatever transfer documents I have to drop my signature on." Nicole yelped on. "Do not forget about this weekend’s sleepover and fun date!!"
Jasmine smiled. "Of course, I will be there." Tapping on her lap, she said. "Saturday, yeah??"
Nicole groaned. "Friday night is always the deal. It’s the ideal time for a wild night!"
Jasmine massaged her forehead. "Are you forgetting something?"
"No, I’m not. Are you?" Nicole asked.
"You’re a mother, for Christ’s sake, Nic. And I am a married woman." Jasmine exclaimed, her free hand exaggeratedly waving in the air.
"Argh, who said I forgot about having Hailey and you being married to Mr Elm??" Nicole’s face crutches. "All these factors don’t determine our fun life. It doesn’t stop us from winding down stress, aren’t you willing to dance off the stress from going to work all through the week on a Friday night, under the red light of a bustling club, grinding on the bodies of hot men??"
Jasmine twisted her lips. "That makes sense." She had to give it to Nicole who knows how well to paint things nicely and make them seem okay and make sense.
"Good. You’re not gonna stand me up, yeah?"
Jasmine nodded as if Nicole could see her. "I will turn up." She agreed.
"Okay! When you get here tomorrow, we can go shopping, and get some stuff to look all nice and hot."
Jasmine swallowed hard, already regretting her decision to go for this ’wild Friday night’ thingy. Nicole was always up to nothing good and most times, her ideas got them in trouble.
Jasmine bid her goodbye, they both needed to do their various stuff so the call ended. Jasmine took a quick bath, smirking at her outfit of the day.
She was wearing a black body-fitted gown and red heels, her red lipstick was mild and her hair was let down in curls. Satisfied by her looks, she exited her room and headed downstairs.
Lately, she couldn’t help but notice how Kingsley seemed to be always absentminded and stunned whenever he saw her. Just like now, his hands were holding the plates but his jaw was left slack, his eyes fixated on her body like he was hypnotized.
Jasmine bit her inner cheek in embarrassment, she knew she had done an extra job of looking pretty but couldn’t he just act as if she wasn’t beautiful??
’Or maybe, no.’ She quickly discarded that thought. She loved his shocked expression, especially how his eyes were lingering on her, his throat popping up and down.
Of course, he looked handsome without even trying to. Though he was busy working to fix them breakfast, he didn’t look any less handsome.
His Grey sleeves were rolled up, and his well-toned arms flexed at every moment. She didn’t want to take note of how his ears were red when he looked away from her.
"Good morning." Jasmine greeted when she came closer and he hummed at her, dropping the last plate on the table and then, he dashed off to the kitchen.
Jasmine smiled weakly, again, she was made to eat mostly black beans, lean beef and some other food that made her appetite decrease.
She strained her head towards the kitchen, her eyes remained on the back of Kingsley who was serving soup in a bowl.
The morning sun rays were set on him, his movement was steady and smooth, and his firm hand holding onto the bowl was rather sexy to her. He looked like a father caring for his kid...
His kid....
’Wait—what??’
Jasmine’s eyes widened at the thought of that, Kingsley turned to face her and she quickly withdrew her head from peeking on him. She remained on her chair with a ghastly expression on her face.
Kingsley soon joined her, he set the bowl on the table, and a relaxed smile was on his face as he asked. "How are you feeling, today?"
Jasmine raised her eyes to look at him and she dragged out lowly. "I’m fine." It only came out like a grumble, making him chuckle.
Kingsley dragged the chair opposite Jasmine and settled on it, his eyes watched her start to drink from her glass cup. Staying hydrated was something he always nagged her about and she seems to be doing that effortlessly now.
Jasmine drank half a glass of water before taking her fork but she didn’t immediately dive into eating.
She glanced at Kingsley and her question rolled out. "Am I..." she paused when Kingsley looked at her.
"Go on." He encouraged with an interested look on his face.
"Do you see me as a kid that you need to take care of??" Her question made Kingsley pause.
He shrugged one of his shoulders before replying. "I don’t see you as a kid, you’re my wife. But then again, I sometimes feel that you are a kid placed under my care."
His explanation didn’t make Jasmine feel any better, her face clouded as her brows folded. Kingsley didn’t bother with her expression, he continued regardless.
"I get to make you food, ensure you eat well and healthy, remind you that you have an appointment with your doctor today..." he recounted. "I get scared when you’re far from my line of sight, thinking about you if you’re safe or your sickness acted up." He seemed to be venting but with a calm and nonchalant expression on his face and his voice was calm too.
Jasmine’s face softened. "You want to get rid of me?" Her lips pursed in a pout.
Kingsley grinned. "Can I?"
Jasmine frowned. "No, you can’t."
Kingsley nodded. "That’s okay. As long as you don’t make me worry too much about you. Intentionally."
He made emphasis on the last word.
Now, Jasmine couldn’t help but feel bad...thinking about the ’wild night’ Nicole proposed, alcohol was going to be involved and she would have to drink it...Kingsley will be worried about her.
Kingsley raised a brow at her. "What are you thinking?" His question made guilt sweep over Jasmine’s face but she shook her head, her smile shaking.
"No-nothing." She lied.
