Chapter 43 He Will Kill Me!
Chapter 43: Chapter 43 He Will Kill Me!
Jasmine remained quiet all through the ride back home. Her eyes were gazing out of the window, watching the landscape disappear out of sight.
It was past curfew time, Kingsley had a straight face, his gaze was ahead but he seemingly looked like he was lost in thoughts too, just like Jasmine.
Jasmine couldn’t shake off the nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach about Jack. Earlier at the party, she spotted Jack amongst other guests.
All of a sudden, he raised his head and they both locked gazes, his eyes sank deep into hers as if sending her promises of him killing her off very soon. His killing intents weren’t hidden, he showed it to her bare.
"What are you thinking about?" Kingsley’s voice suddenly rushed into Jasmine’s ears, making her turn to look at him.
He didn’t look at her, his eyes were still looking ahead but his question was directed to her.
"Were you able to get that major shareholder called Mr Boaz to your side??" Jasmine asked instead. Her major concern was stripping Jack of his assets and making him go broke so that his hands would be tied. He won’t be able to harm her without funds.
Kingsley didn’t turn to look at her, he simply said. "Mr Boaz is proving stubborn. But not to worry, I will get him soon." He was relaxed about it as if he already had everything mapped out.
Jasmine sighed before resting her back on the chair. She muttered."I hope it works soon."
Her whispers was heard by kingsley and he inclined his head to look at her, a frown settled on his face. "What are you thinking about, Jasmine?" He repeated his earlier question.
Jasmine let out a shaky breath before telling him. "I have this nagging feeling that something is about to go wrong. Jack has been appearing in my face too often and he doesn’t hide the fact that he hates me and wants to get rid of me."
Kingsley raised a brow. "He can’t get rid of you."
Jasmine gave him a ridiculous look. "You sound so sure about that, why do you think so?"
Kingsley shook his head, and a smirk formed at the side of his lips. "I don’t think so, I know so."
"Narcissist." Jasmine rolled her eyes afterwards making Kingsley chuckle lightly, his gaze never leaving her face.
The street lights rested on her face, it was easy to note every expression on her face and for the umpteenth time, Kingsley realized how beautiful she was. Her lips were slightly pouted and fine lines were formed in the middle of her brows, she was indeed gorgeous.
Kingsley averted his gaze when Jasmine looked at him. He cleared his throat before changing the topic. "About earlier, when we had that fight. I’m sorry, for telling you that." He wasn’t specific but Jasmine knew what he meant.
"I’m also sorry for yelling at you too and maybe, overreacted." Jasmine apologized too. Kingsley hummed without saying another word.
Jasmine finalized. "Fine, you can sleep in my room. Just realized that you can serve me some purposes if you stay."
"What purpose?" He paused.
"I tend to have nightmares at night too, we can help each other." She didn’t hammer on the topic but Kingsley started to dwell on it.
It didn’t sound so bad to Kingsley and he was looking forward to sleeping in her room again.
"Sure." He accepted.
Elliot parked the car in front of the entrance, Jasmine didn’t wait for Kingsley as she climbed out of the car, heading straight to the house.
Raymond also came out and waited outside the car while Kingsley had to answer his ringing phone.
It was his Grandpa that was calling.
"Hello..." Kingsley said the moment he connected the call, he walked away from the car while Elliot went to park the car in the parking lot.
Grandpa Elm’s voice came from the other end. "How are you doing, Grandson?"
Kingsley raised a brow, a little bit surprised that his grandpa had the ability to ask him that question. His Grandpa only call him for important stuff and he always forgot to ask how he was doing. "I think, I’m okay." He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Why?" He added.
Grandpa Elm hesitated for a while before saying. "Umm...I arranged with an overseas business partner, Mr Bells. I was supposed to attend his daughter’s wedding." He paused.
Kingsley’s brows knitted. "Continue." His free hand found its way to his pocket.
"My doctor advised me to take a break from traveling. So, can you go in my stead?"
"No," Kingsley said shortly.
Grandpa Elm let out a deep sigh in exasperation. "Come on, it’s just for four days, I already gave Mr. Bells my word that I will be present."
"You can take back the words you gave him," Kingsley said, sarcastically. "Tell him about your health, he is an adult so he will understand. Also, you promised to be there, not me."
Grandpa Elm massaged his forehead. "Mr Bells has been a wonderful partner and also an old friend of mine. We can’t let him down now that he needs us to grace his daughter’s event."
Kingsley could detect the tiredness in his grandfather’s voice, he wanted to kick against this but as much as he hated to compromise much, he knew he couldn’t afford to go against what the doctor had said. "Fine. When is the event holding?"
"In a few days, I will send you the invitation card." His grandpa was elated when Kingsley finally agreed.
Kingsley hummed before ending the call, he slid his phone into his pocket and walked towards the door but Raymond called out to him.
"Boss Elm, I just got all the evidence we could use against Mr Boaz." He reported.
Kingsley nodded. "Good. You’ll get a double bonus this month." With that said, he opened the door and left.
Raymond made an air fist. "Yes!" He giggled.
Kingsley slowly climbed up the flight of stairs, he stopped in front of Jasmine’s room but didn’t knock. He wasn’t sure if he would be allowed to sleep in her room from that day onward or maybe, tomorrow.
He raised his hand to knock but stopped in midair, he decided against it and turned to his room.
Kingsley dropped his phone on the table, he threw his suit on the couch. He began to undo his buttons and completely strip himself of his clothes.
Kingsley walked into his bathroom where he had a quick shower, his eyes remained on the mirror as the water washed down his body, rinsing off the soap. His hair was wet, glued to his face as the water trailed from his head to his face, going down to his body.
After the bath, he grabbed a towel to wipe off the water on his body before tying it around his waist.
He got dressed in a blue pajama, his upper body was exposed as he blow-dried his hair. He settled for a thin shirt before leaving his room with his phone.
He knocked on Jasmine’s door, he didn’t get to wait because Jasmine opened the door immediately as if she had been waiting for him.
"You must have been so impatient." He teased as he walked into the room.
Jasmine snorted behind him while shutting the door. "You wish."
Kingsley came near the bed and his face fell a little when he saw the demarcated bed which Jasmine had made with pillows serving as borders.
"You aren’t being real with this, right?" Kingsley asked, his eyes on the bed.
Jasmine walked to the other side of the bed and got in, using the duvet to cover herself up to her neck. "That’s your side of the bed, don’t roll over to my space. Got it?" She didn’t wait for his reply before she shut her eyes, pretending to be sleeping.
Kingsley had a bewildered gaze on but he nevertheless, swallowed his complaints and crashed on the bed too. They both drifted into dreamland—maybe, not both because hours later, Jasmine’s breathing became uneven.
Sweat filled her forehead even though the air conditioner was on. Her brows were tightly joined and her face paled, her lips twisted and shook, she kept muttering some words inaudibly.
’Please..’ her whimper came out low. Her brows joined and released simultaneously. She clutched the blanket around her tightly, her body trembling as her breathing became even more erratic.
Jasmine pleaded. ’No-no..’ her head turned sideways one at a time, her body almost convulsing as the nightmare stretched on. Tears started to slide out of her eyes as she begged. The nightmare was rushing in again and it was so vivid as if it happened yesterday.
Her tears streamed down even more, soaking the bed under her when Jack penetrated that knife into her stomach...she cried out. "Nooo.."
A loud gasp escaped her lips as she jolted awake but a strong arm quickly pulled her closer to his chest. Jasmine’s breathing came out in pants as she gripped Kingsley’s shirt tightly. Her crying continued. "He wants to kill me. He will kill me."
Kingsley held her closer to himself on the bed, his hand patting her back but she won’t stop trembling and crying, pleading to be saved from someone...but who??
Kingsley could only whisper to her. "Shush, I’m here now. You’re safe with me." He wasn’t sure if that was accurate but deep down, he meant that.
