Chapter 42: Chapter 42 You’ll Hate Me Someday!!
Jasmine pried her lips open, her eyes sinking into his. She couldn’t find her words anymore so she shut her lips again.
Kingsley smirked when seeing her reaction," What? Cat caught your tongue?"
His taunting words made Jasmine push at his chest, immediately standing upright. She cleared her throat while taking a step back. "I’m thirsty. I need to get some water."
Kingsley hummed at her."Okay then, let’s go get you water." He made to hold her hand when Raymond suddenly showed up.
"Boss..." He called out, making Kingsley and Jasmine turn to look at him.
"Mr Boaz is at the party, don’t you think this is the time to approach him??" Raymond asked carefully.
Kingsley narrowed his eyes a little before telling Raymond." I need to make sure Jasmine gets water first."
Jasmine quickly tucked at his sleeve.
"No, it’s fine. The cellar is not quite far from here, I can manage on my own."
"Are you sure??"
Jasmine nodded. "Go do your stuff."
Kingsley looked around the bustling hall before bringing his face closer and warned. "No alcohol, remember?? You have to visit your doctor tomorrow so keep in good shape. Remember to not wander around too much and like I said, that son of a dog will be coming to the party too."
Jasmine rolled her eyes a little before reassuring him again and again that she would be fine on her own.
"Okay then, I want to see you leave." Kingsley leaned back, his hands found their way to his pocket as he stood there with a straight back.
Jasmine suppressed her smile before turning around, she started to walk towards the cellar where the bartender was serving drinks. She could feel Kingsley’s eyes on her as she walked towards the place to get water.
Kingsley was satisfied when he saw her reach the place, he quickly threw Raymond a glance, a cue for them to leave.
The two men walk out of there, heading to a different corner In the hall.
After getting water, Jasmine found a corner to sit in while waiting for Kingsley. She tried to concentrate when the event began, starting in full swing. But, she couldn’t help picking up whispers from around her, wives of some wealthy men talking about her.
"She’s so beautiful and young, yet, she brainlessly dumped Jack to stick with a monster for his wealth. Shameless." A woman’s comment rolled into Jasmine’s ears and her face immediately fell, her jaw tightened.
"See how lonely she looks, sitting there all by herself. Her monster husband prolly chose work over his wife..heartless man."
"He killed his parents after all, what do you expect from such a product."
Jasmine tightened her grip on her purse, the women were sitting at a round table beside her, and their eyes were laced on her body like a magnet. Their words weren’t filtered or concealed, they were saying those words for her to hear.
The MC continued. "Let’s make a toast to the chairman of the event..."
Everyone stood up, Jasmine also followed but her eyes were roaming around the hall, she couldn’t find Kingsley anywhere. As if, he left her behind for work.
It was starting to get annoying when wine servers started to move around, people were collecting wine from the tray, yet....Kingsley still hasn’t returned.
"Oh my, Poor heiress is stranded and forgotten by her monster husband, isn’t that news??" That particular woman who made the second comment from earlier, repeated.
Jasmine’s eyes deepened, her face didn’t mask the annoyance she was feeling.
A server soon walked towards their side and Jasmine gestured for her to come closer.
The young woman smiled at her and Jasmine slowly took two glasses from the tray. She held it close to her chest, her face twisted with a forced smile, and she slowly turned around to face the women.
The woman closest to her was wearing a blue mixed with white color gown, she was the meanest commenter of all.
With a roguish smile on her lips, Jasmine raised a brow at her. "You love to form headlines, right?? I’ll give you lots of topics to make headlines with." Her smile fell from her face as if they were never there. A frown replaced the smile as she threw both red and white wine on her.
A gasp escaped from their lips, Jasmine didn’t stop there, she grabbed extra wine from the tray and splashed it on the other women.
They were shocked when Jasmine poured them wine, other guests in their circle of tables were surprised by the turn of events too.
The woman in the blue and white gown snapped, her hair was wet and her makeup almost ruined, her black bra was becoming visible because her gown wasn’t thick, and the presence of the water made it glue on her skin.
"You—" she launched at Jasmine who took several steps back, at that point, everyone’s gaze was on them.
It was one of the most embarrassing moments for Jasmine and she just wanted to get away...far away from this mad woman who took pleasure in talking down on her.
She turned around to hurry out as the woman crazed towards her but she bumped into a hard chest. The person wrapped his arms around her In a protective gesture.
Jasmine quickly raised her head, but her eyes only saw his sharp jaw that was clenched, he was staring above her head, looking straight at the woman who paused in her movements.
Jasmine didn’t want him to let go at that moment, she was too embarrassed that she hid her face in his suit, hugging him back. She was so small in his arms as if that was her safe space and apartment.
"Who the hell are you??" Kingsley’s voice resounded, his chest vibrating against Jasmine’s ears as his words rolled out.
The three women rushed out, they started to lay out their complaints.
"Your wife splashed drinks on us, look how drenched we are!"
"Yes, we did nothing to her, and she..." the last woman couldn’t even complete her statement, looking down at her gown with teary eyes.
The people’s gazes were on them, they all became the center of attention, something that made Kingsley’s brows join in anger.
Almost immediately, three other men joined, from the way they approached the three women, it seemed they were the husbands of the women.
One of the men quickly vented out. "Mr Elm, your wife has caused so much inconvenience to my wife, we need to be compensated."
His words made Kingsley raise a brow lazily, Raymond just snarled at them from behind.
"You’re the husband of that lousy woman??" Kingsley asked, making the man’s face redden in anger.
"My wife is not a lousy woman nor a troublesome person, your wife probably started the fight." The man defended, and the other men nodded along in support while the women fumed.
Jasmine raised her head to throw them a glare but Kingsley used his hand to pat her hair so she returned to leaning on him with her face pressed on his suit.
Kingsley scanned all of them, they all gave him the vibes of middle-class families looking for where to leech from. "In that case, I have nothing to say," Kingsley said, already bored with the topic.
"What do you mean?" Another man, the husband of one of the women spoke up.
Kingsley’s gaze chilled, provoked by the attention and questions. "My wife is allowed to bully anybody. So deal with that." His words made a few people mumble and he didn’t even care.
Shameless and unapologetic, that was Kingsley’s middle name. What more could happen to him?? His reputation was damaged as can be, he wasn’t scared of it getting even more bruised. But for the sake of his wife, he uttered. "But it seems you all are hungry people,so relay whatever complaints you have to my assistant."
Jasmine wanted to refute his words as she raised her head but Kingsley detached from her and scooped her into his arms.
Jasmine had to swallow back her words but she didn’t forget to throw a glare at the women and their husbands who had gleaming faces, happy that they would be compensated even it came along with insults.
Kingsley carried her upstairs, to the VVIP section where he was sitting earlier with J-Tim. It was a secluded area, away from the bustling hall. From there, they watched the event.
Kingsley sat there with a blank look on his face while Jasmine kept stealing glances at him, wondering if he was mad at her again.
"Stop staring, focus on the party," Kingsley said, taking a glass of wine on the table, they were upstairs, looking down at the people and how the models paraded the stage with different clothes to advertise.
J-Tim and Raymond were engaged in their conversation. There were a few bodyguards behind them, watching the area.
Jasmine said lowly. "I didn’t intentionally splash drinks on them, they were talking..."
Kingsley cut into her words. "I know." His statement made Jasmine swallow back her words. He turned to look at her, his face almost near hers, his eyes scanned her face before they dropped to her lips and then, back up to her face. "I know they were mocking you for sticking with a man like me."
His words made Jasmine suck in a deep breath. "I don’t regret it."
Her words made Kingsley look at her for a while before he scoffed. "Oh right. Of course, You’ll say that." He turned to face the party again, leaving Jasmine.
"What do you mean??" She asked, he sounded as if he would...shock her someday.
A small smile fell on Kingsley’s face, informing her about himself. "One day, you’ll hate me to the core and that’s certain." He sipped from his wine again before adding. "I’m that cruel." He warned.
