Chapter 102 Desperate Moment
Chapter 102: Chapter 102 Desperate Moment
The room they stepped into was empty and quiet in the far end of the corridor. It was an unused waiting room with only two chairs and a dusty table. Moore Trevor walked in first and slowly took a seat.
Kingsley remained standing, his arms crossed around his chest, his eyes fixed on the older man with a mixture of confusion and rising tension. Raymond leaned against the wall, silent, watching the two men as he waited for the conversation to unfold.
Moore let out a slow breath. He looked tired. His shoulders were tense and there was a strange calmness on his face.
"I wasn’t always a cruel man, Kingsley," Moore began, his voice came out slow and low, like each word carried weight. "Everything I ever did, I thought I did for my family. For Jasmine. For my wife. For the Trevor name."
Kingsley’s eyes narrowed. "Then what did you do to my family?"
Moore looked up at him. His eyes didn’t blink. "The truth is ugly but you deserve to hear it. Especially now that my daughter’s life is in the line."
Kingsley didn’t move but his face was covered in a tight frown. Raymond shifted uncomfortably where he stood—knowing things were about to take a different route.
Moore continued. "A few years ago, the Trevor group started to fall apart. Poor investments. Greedy partners. A few wrong moves in international trades. Everything just started to crumble and I was desperate for a solution. I didn’t want the press to know. I didn’t want Jasmine or my wife to know. I wanted to fix it before it became a public shame."
He ran a hand down his face and looked away for a moment.
"That was when I met Riley Drake," Moore said, his chest grew tight. "He owned a powerful conglomerate. He was wealthy, well connected and sharp. The kind of man who could build or destroy empires with a single phone call. At first, he seemed... normal. Business-minded. A strategist. He offered to save my company. He said he’d inject cash into the Trevor group and make our debts disappear overnight."
Moore’s voice dropped. "But he wanted something."
Kingsley’s heart started to pound harder, he didn’t like where the conversation was heading to.
Moore looked up again to meet Kingsley’s eyes. "He said the Elm family stood in his way. I didn’t ask why. I didn’t care. I was blinded by desperation and the need to salvage my company—my legacy. He said if I helped eliminate them, if I helped frame you—he’d keep my company alive. Keep my reputation intact. In return, I had to let his men into your house. Let them do what needed to be done. He’d handle the rest."
Raymond slowly stood up straighter, his lips parting in disbelief.
Kingsley’s face twisted. "You’re the reason my parents were attacked? I thought you just had a hand in destroying the footage that would have saved me from the allegations....you were involved?"
Moore’s voice cracked. "Yes." He lowered his head in shame. Too embarrassed for his silly mistakes that had cost him everything.
Kingsley took a step back, as if the words had pushed him.
"I didn’t expect it to go that far," Moore said quickly. "I thought it would be something... less violent. I didn’t know he would burn it all. I didn’t know what kind of man he really was. Not until it was too late."
"You helped destroy my family!" Kingsley shouted, his voice echoing through the room. "You watched everything collapse and you let everyone think it was me. You watched Jasmine cry, you watched her break down, and you still said nothing."
Moore stood slowly. He looked older now, like the weight of his guilt was finally showing on his skin like a tattoo.
"I know," he said. "I watched it all. And I hated myself for it every day. But I told myself it was for her. I wanted to give my daughter the best life that I was deprived of. Until I saw what it cost her. I saw how she changed. And when she found out she was pregnant... I saw something else too."
"You are heartless."
Moore pressed his thin lips together. "This was the exact reason I hated the fact that you both crossed paths and got married. I wanted to end it so bad. I knew someday all this would blow up and I was too....scared." He faltered. "I wanted to avoid this day. But it seems karma came biting me when my daughter got involved with you and entangled herself in your world."
Kingsley was silent. His jaw clenched. Moore stepped forward. "She still loves you. I know she does. She tries to hide it. But a father can see what his daughter carries in silence."
Kingsley shook his head. "Why now? Why tell me all this now?"
Moore looked him straight in the eye. "Because I want to fix it. Because I have a granddaughter now. And I don’t want her to grow up in the shadow of my mistakes. I ruined my daughter’s happiness, Kingsley. I won’t ruin my granddaughter’s future too."
There was a long silence. Kingsley looked like he was trying to keep himself from exploding. Raymond stared at the floor, arms folded tightly across his chest.
Moore took another step closer and gently patted Kingsley’s shoulder. The gesture was unexpected, twisting Kingsley’s guts. The truth was a lot to swallow.
"But you need to be careful," Moore whispered. "Riley Drake isn’t just a man. He’s dangerous. He has the Elite Fraternity behind him now. He’s not just their partner. He’s their new leader."
Kingsley’s eyes widened slightly. "He’s the new leader?"
Moore nodded slowly. "Yes. And he’s not finished. This shooting... It’s just the beginning. Riley doesn’t like failure. And you’re standing in his way."
Kingsley took a long breath and looked away.
Moore walked past him and stopped at the door. "I think he’s coming after my daughter because she’s your lover, your weak spot." He smiled sadly. "Be careful, Kingsley."
He opened the door and left without another word. Raymond walked over to Kingsley, his voice was incredibly low. "What now?"
Kingsley didn’t speak at first. His eyes were fixed on the wall. Then he said, "Now we fight back."
