Chapter 34: Five star exam
Chapter 34: Five star exam
The prestigious royal academy, Eravatine
Known to be the single most influential academy in all of Verdenez’s kingdom.
Many nobles from far and wide attend this academy, as it is more reliable and status-worthy.
The most remarkable fact about the academy as a whole was that even people from other kingdoms attended the establishment as well.
With that knowledge, it shouldn’t be a surprise to find other princes at the academy willing to sit down for the Five-Star Exams, like they do every year.
Inside the academy, even before walking through the gates, one could already hear the loud murmurs of students chit-chatting amongst themselves.
They were scattered in groups, making it fairly easy to tell those of royalty from commoners.
Since the academic environment was vast in size, more than two hundred students could fit in without feeling cramped.
Still, that wasn’t exactly something Sylus was comfortable with.
Dressed in his noble attire, Sylus stood in front of the academy gates, Zani right beside him.
As he watched the students play amongst themselves, his face turned purple, as if holding down the urge to barf.
’How are there still so many people? I made sure to wait a while before leaving the house,’ he thought to himself.
While it was true he couldn’t handle the crowd because of his social issues, there was yet another reason why he was desperately trying to avoid them.
His reputation in the kingdom was that of a celebrity.
Sylus faced Zani.
"We should head in before anyone notices."
Zani didn’t say anything; instead, she reached into her bag and pulled out a small white mask.
"Here." She stretched it forward.
Sylus had an unimpressed aura around him.
"Zani, I am not putting a mask on my face like some edge lord."
"Edge lord?"
Sylus scratched his hair, clearly giving up.
"Never mind, let’s just go in. How bad can it be anyway?"
The moment Sylus took a step onto the school grounds, a girl who just happened to walk in front of him halted.
She inspected him from head to toe.
Sylus was already making faces, trying to hint to her not to make a scene.
She indeed made a scene.
"P-Prince Sylus Von Astrodial is here!!!"
Excitement was etched on her face as she took a step to the side, barely able to stand on her feet.
In the blink of an eye, almost every student who was close by began to form a circle around him, most of whom were teenage girls.
"Prince Sylus, it’s really you! I heard you made the MH4 car overnight. Is that true?"
"Prince Sylus, are you taking the exams as well?"
"Please notice me!~"
"Touch me~"
They all spoke on top of each other, making it seemingly hard for Sylus to answer any of their questions.
They were girls, so he understood their reactions.
Boys were easier to communicate with, but it would seem a lot of them were covetous and wanted to be nowhere near Sylus.
Zani was just about to step in when, from nowhere, a single clap reverberated from the front.
It was loud enough to catch everyone’s attention.
The girls who had turned their heads to check who would have made such a loud clap were instantly twice as enthusiastic, as if they had seen yet another popular figure.
Like parting waters, they divided themselves, giving room to let Sylus see who had interrupted him from his suffering.
’Oh?’
Sylus was a tad bit surprised as he spotted a young man strolling towards him.
The young man stood tall, draped in an elegant black suit embroidered with intricate golden patterns that glimmered softly beneath the light. The suit was tailored to perfection, adorned with chains, buttons, and a crimson flower pinned to his chest.
His long, pale blond hair was tied back in a loose ponytail, and his golden eyes were cool and calculating, yet held so much mischief.
Taking a peek behind the man, Sylus could see a lady dressed in a red gown and wearing glasses.
’Yep, he’s a prince.’
Seeing as everyone was fawning over him as well, he had to be.
Finally making a stop, the young man presented himself.
"The name is Sio Lumberg, crown prince of the Lumberg Kingdom, and you must be the infamous third prince of the Astrodial family."
Sylus had one hand in his pocket as he replied.
"That would be me. An honor to meet you, Lumberg."
A simple exchange between two princes sparked a flurry of excitement in the audience.
Just like Sylus, Sio was popular amongst other people from different kingdoms.
While Astrodial was a very powerful kingdom, it lacked in terms of other qualities like trading, entertainment, and so on.
The Kingdom of Lumberg excelled in that regard.
They had the biggest colosseum on the entire continent, making it their biggest asset, as it drew in visitors from all over.
Sio was said to be so talented that he once competed in one of the tournaments and won the title of youngest warrior to ever win.
In a way, he was also a prodigy like Sylus.
Sio could already tell Sylus was far different from any other prince he had ever met.
"I heard the First Prince refused to participate in the Five-Star Exam; I assumed no one from Astrodial would be doing so as well," Lumberg said, with one hand on his jaw.
True, Lucas did decide he wasn’t going to participate in the Five-Star Exam after he failed the last one.
Martin was so furious when the result of the exam came out last time that Sylus couldn’t blame him for not wanting to try again.
Sylus finally replied, "My brother has other things to worry about. So I will be representing my family for this exam."
Lumberg smiled mischievously.
"I take it you are anxious? The First Prince failed the exam, no?"
"Last I checked, I am not the First Prince."
"True, but you can’t blame me for being direct; you barely ever show your face in public."
"I do when it is necessary."
"I’ll be sure to remind you of that when I pass the exams." Lumberg still carried that same smile on his face.
"...A bit too confident, are we not?"
From Sylus’s response came a stare-down from both parties.
The lady standing by Lumberg was getting ready to step in if her lord was to say anything to escalate the situation.
But her mind went at ease as the bell rang, echoing throughout the gathering.
The principal of the academy had arrived.
