Chapter 35: Five star exam II

Right next to the giant statue of King Martin that was placed at the center of the academy grounds was a small podium, high enough for anyone to see the entire crowd if they stood on it.

On top of the podium, a small, round, colorless orb was placed.

This was known as a sound amplifier, mainly used to address a large number of people.

As soon as the students noticed a scary woman climbing the podium to address them, they all organized themselves and moved closer.

Including those who were close to Sylus and Lumberg at the time.

Everyone knew how strict the academy was, especially during special events such as this.

If they found a student being unserious or not cooperating, it could mean immediate expulsion from the examination.

No one wanted that, which was why they were always on their best behavior.

Unfortunately, these rules only applied to those who were either commoners or lesser nobles.

People like Sylus were deemed capable of doing as they pleased.

Of course, Sylus wasn’t one to go for the double standard and special treatment.

He knew how it felt firsthand in his former life.

"Looks like they are about to address us; we should head to our position," Lumberg said with a smile before walking away.

While his assistant slightly bowed her head to Zani, who did the same.

Tch, I can’t stand people who smile all the time.

Sylus watched as Lumberg made his way toward the left side of the gathering, where the other nobles were present.

It had a shade to block the sun from touching their skin, and also a good spot for the other students to get a good view of them.

Sylus, on the other hand, stood at the front of the line, where the commoners were.

With Zani behind him, no one dared to get close, even though many of them wanted to touch his body.

Some of the teachers standing close to the podium were surprised to see this, wondering if the third prince was unaware of the chair they had set for him.

While Sylus didn’t like the attention, he was doing it for selfish reasons.

[The students are all grateful you decided to grace them with your presence.]

[You have received 10 karma points.]

[Karma points: 88/100.]

Sylus couldn’t help but smile at the runes.

And then, the woman standing on top of the podium began.

"Good morning, students from far and wide. My name is Isolde Arwen, and I am the principal of the academy."

Everyone listened attentively.

It was more a matter of them fearing that if they didn’t make eye contact with her, she was going to eat them up.

And this was only because she was horrid.

Hard to look at.

The fact that she decided to add a load of makeup on her face and also flowers on her already dying grey hair made it even harder to swallow.

Alas, the students had to endure the horror for the sake of the exam.

Sylus was no different.

Isolde continued,

"As you know, the Five-Star Exam will consist of four major categories, handpicked to bring out the best students from all over the world: written examination, oral quiz, dream test, and lastly, mana level test.

Each exam is over 100 score points; you will be given the appropriate points depending on how well you perform."

The beast’s voice echoed through the crowd.

"In order to pass the Five-Star Exam, you need to get a total of 100 points in all categories and nothing less. But I am sure many of you were already aware of this."

True, they knew what the Five-Star Exam was about, but hearing it out loud made them extremely nervous.

There were some in the crowd who only decided to take the exams a few months ago after hearing the rewards from a random stranger.

And there were others who had been studying their whole lives just to bring glory to their family’s name.

As far as everyone knew, since the exam was invented, only four people had passed the exam, and even then, it was a long time ago.

To pass the exam now was to be a part of history.

"I urge you all to take this exam seriously; there will be no take-backs and no redos. Your skill and intellect are the only two things that will guide you to your success."

Sylus clenched his fist.

I should be feeling anxious. Yet... I am so calm.

"In accordance with the rules, you will be taking the first three exams all at once; you are free to decide which you want to do. Only after the first three exams are done will you be eligible to take the last one. You have five minutes to make your decision. Starting now."

Almost immediately, everyone began moving toward the front of the assembly, taking their slip that would be used to enter the hall dedicated to whatever exam they had chosen.

Lumberg selected the oral exam first; it had to be, since he was heading toward the left side of the academy, which was where the oral exam was taking place.

I guess they are not planning to let us in on what to expect. Professional.

Sylus had a snarky tone.

Unawares, Zani leaned closer, cupping her hand over her mouth as she whispered,

"From what I can see, not many people are taking the dream test. Please go there; I’ll be able to keep an eye on you more efficiently."

Sylus looked toward the building that was far back away from the podium, at least a ten-minute walk away.

True, not many people are going there.

Sylus sighed.

"Okay then."

With his mind made up, he ambled toward the table set not too far away from him, where boxes containing the different examination passes were placed.

Getting close, he was about to reach inside the box for the dream test pass when another hand went in with his.

It was lean, fair, and quite soft. It had to belong to a girl.

"Sorry, I didn’t know you were going for this box."

Sylus’s eyes widened.

Erica?
