Reborn As A Phoenix With Beast Taming System
Chapter 46: City of Long River

Chapter 46: 46: City of Long River

Despite Tang Yigao’s complicated problem, Ash opted to ignore it. There’s no time to play a hero when he’s no stronger than Star Rank Beast. All he needed to do now was to garner some profits!

With that in mind, Ash went with his way toward the City of Long River. And not so long after, he saw hundreds of tall pagodas soared to the sky, they stood solemnly with the golden moon in the background.

According to Lady Zhi, the City of Long River had five main gates which also served as the first checkpoint for any cultivator who wished to travel in the Western Region. To enter the city, he must pay around 1 Tael of gold coin.

As a token of gratitude from Lady Zhi, she gave him around 1,000 Tael of raw gold that she mined from her cave. The Queen of Arachnids could have mined the entire gold vein of her mountain and given everything to him. However, Ash politely rejected her offer since he didn’t want to burden herself more than he needed to.

City of Long River was a neutral city and wasn’t owned by any sect who colonized the Immortal Beast Real, City of Long River is governed by a Mayor who were elected by the citizens after they won any place at the Martial Tournament which was held by the Ten Skies Alliance. The giant superpower which consisted of Ten Strongest Martial Sects in the entire Immortal Beast Realm.

As the biggest port city with a high annual income per capita, the economic competition in this city was very fierce, every powerful family who has the power and fortunes groomed their best descendants to become the Mayor someday and they would be granted the honorary privileges to participate in the Ten Skies Alliance’s Annual Gathering.

’That tournament would be my ticket to gain connection with the highest authority of their society!’ Ash thought inwardly.

Ash couldn’t wait to see this Martial Tournament which was going to happen around the corner of this month. According to the calendar that he just learned from Lady Zhi, today was the 17th day of the Eighth Month, Year 120.

Although he didn’t particularly need it, learning Human’s custom and their culture was also very important to plot against them.

But of course, Ash would need to amass a tremendous amount of fortunes and strength just to participate in the tournament which could only be participated by Qi Condensation Stage Cultivators or equivalent with Star Rank Immortal Beast!

Before the city’s gates were closed at midnight, Ash opted to enter the city from the south. After walking a little bit further, he could see the gate from a distance. He immediately told his Tamed Beasts’ to hide inside the Beast-Taming Space before being detected by the guards.

Just five minutes before the gates were closed, Ash had finally arrived at the Fifth Gate, which was fashioned for common folks. By the time he strode closer, one of the guards who was so eager to go home gruntled audibly,

"Hey! You, peasant! Move your sorry ass faster. I ain’t have all night to wait for you!"

Instead flaunting his strength, Ash faked a clumsy mistake by tripping his own foot, landing head first in front of them.

"Hahaha! Are you an idiot?!" Mocked the other guard.

Ash got up on his feet almost immediately, chuckling wryly. "I’m sorry, I’m just very tired after a really long journey. Hehehe. I heard from my friend that I can find some jobs in the city. So, I headed straight from my village. As it turns out, this distance was way longer than anticipated."

"Eh, I don’t care about your trivia. If you wish to enter the city, then you must pay the entrance fee for ten liangs of gold!"

Ash faked a surprised face, he had expected that he would be extorted for any menial reason.

"That’s so expensive! My friend said that the entrance fee was only 1 Tael of gold coin!"

"Hmph! That’s the old entrance fee from years ago! Ten Taels of Gold Coins or scram! I have no time for a peasant like you!"

Ash sighed in resignation. But, in all actuality, he knew just the way to deal with them.

How to deal with greedy, gluttonous dogs if you may ask? Feed them until they bloated and couldn’t breathe! By that time, they will learn that life is not just about eating and shit!

"I don’t have that many gold coins right now. But I do have some Immortal Herbs that I collected during my journey! I hope these herbs will suffice."

Ash reached into his sleeve, pretending to search for something. But, he was actually taking his time to choose the most valuable Immortal Herbs that he could find.

"Take this, this and this one too!" Ash arranged three most expensive herbs that he knew of.

[Autumn Cherry blossom Bonsai Tree]

[Thousand Years Red Yang Ginseng]

[Meteorite Black Mosh]

The estimated value if all three combined would exceed 10,000 Tael of Gold Coins!

Both of the gate guards were terrified, their faces turned pale as if they had met with a ghost!

As nobody without any family background or influence, procuring extraordinary wealth from unknown resources would make themselves being targeted by powerful family members.

Those elite socialites could fabricate any story and force the people to believe that whatever they do is a venerable feat and needs to be praised!

Hell, even procuring important information regarding any scandalous deed or any information about someone’s treasury was enough to make their heads roll down from their bed the next morning.

"For a second thought." The first guard who barked at him was shivering. "You may proceed as you wish, sir! We don’t want any trouble! Please, spare us!"

"Is that so!? You guys are so kind!" Ash was still pretending like an innocent fool. "As my gratitude, here, take this home with you!" He then gave each guard a small piece of raw gold.

The two guards were askew as they didn’t understand the significance of raw gold that had not been admitted to the City of Long River’s Treasury Office!
