Chapter 1428: Chapter 1400: Unfortunately, Camden just happens to be at home.

The funeral was held in Q City, and not a single custom from the hometown was omitted. Arlong and Mario Yuno mainly took charge of the arrangements, with Kiara being accompanied by Edward Wheeler “Bright Clarity” throughout the process. Arlong’s savings had all been spent on Rico Clark’s treatment fees, leaving him with no money. Kiara contributed quite a lot to finance the burial.

All the relatives from the Clark Family came; despite being nowhere to be found during Rico Clark’s downfall, they all showed up after his passing, crying at the top of their lungs. As for whether their grief was genuine or not, it no longer mattered at this point.

The man had become a handful of ashes lying in a small box; all the rights and wrongs of his life had turned to smoke. Kiara watched these people cry, not shedding a single tear herself.

She had settled all her scores with Rico Clark, and although there had been deep hatred between them, he had raised her for over a decade. The absence of emotional investment made it all insignificant to Kiara now, as she hadn’t provided him with the feelings a daughter should have either.

It was only after Edward Wheeler “Bright Clarity” came into her life that Kiara understood what the relationship between a father and daughter should be like–an indescribable bond, which she always found lacking with Rico Clark.

The funeral cost a lot of money, and coupled with the expenses for Rico Clark’s treatment and the subsequent forced medical treatment in the sanatorium, Kiara spared no expense to provide the highest standards for him, which, in a way, offset the years he had spent raising her. As to who came up short in this settlement, it was entirely meaningless now.

While Mario Yuno and Arlong were busy with these post-mortem arrangements, Edward Wheeler “Bright Clarity” stayed with Kiara the entire time.

Kiara’s mother had remarried, making it impossible to hold such an event at her place. The old house had long been demolished, so Kiara used an apartment she had yet to live in to conduct the funeral services. Located in the city centre of Q City, it had a three-bedroom layout; she had bought it early on with the intention of giving it to her brother as a wedding house.

Kiara paid for everything, including the yet-to-be-executed renovations. Her original plan was to transfer ownership to Arlong once he was a bit more settled in the company. However, after Arlong’s relationship with Flora Jim, Kiara dropped the idea and temporarily kept it to herself without telling Arlong.

Kiara’s mother knew that the house was bought by her daughter for her son. She had intended to pay for it herself. With both children’s compensation money from the demolition managed by her, along with the income from renting out shops and doing small businesses with her elder brother, Kiara’s mother also had a considerable amount of spare money.

But Kiara had said that if Kiara’s mother ever decided to buy something for Arlong later, it would be considered her mother’s gift. The gift from his sister was separate. Kiara had actually wanted to buy Arlong a car, but considering that he was still young, she thought real estate should be the priority. She planned for Arlong to sell it for a car or do what he wished after he started a family later on.

Outside of Kiara and her mother and Mario Yuno, no one else knew about these things, not even Arlong himself.

Choosing this location for the arrangements was the most appropriate decision.

Following tradition, the ashes were kept at home for 3 days. In Q City, a mourning hall had to be set up downstairs, with hired mourners playing funeral music from dawn to dusk, serving as the last tribute to the deceased. After the 3 days, the ashes were taken to the burial plot Kiara had just purchased.

On the day of the burial, Arlong wore a white, edgeless mourning suit of coarse cloth, in deep mourning. As the mourning son, he had to carry the mourning banner. Kiara was also expected to don the deep mourning attire and hold the mourning stick, but she did not.

She simply chose a black outfit, and held no mourning stick, her detached attitude drawing dissatisfaction from the Clark family members.

After burying Rico Clark, Arlong planned to treat the relatives at a restaurant. Kiara settled the bill and got ready to head back to Linville.

Mario Yuno was extremely busy with work and had barely managed to take a 3-day leave to assist Kiara with the funeral arrangements. As for how much work Edward Wheeler “Bright Clarity” had to reschedule, no one knew. The two of them were about to accompany Kiara to the car when a noisy group approached.

Kiara recognized them immediately–excluding her close Fourth Uncle’s family who didn’t come, all the other families were there.

Seeing the expressions on these people’s faces, Mario Yuno knew they meant trouble and quickly opened the car door, urging Kiara to get in.

“Just stay on top and don’t come down.”

Upon seeing this, Yuzo Joel was about to get down too, but Edward Wheeler gestured for him to stay put, so Yuzo Joel got back into the car.

“Have some water, you haven’t had any all morning and your lips are chapped.” He handed Kiara an insulated cup, and concurrently praised Edward Wheeler.

“The kid actually cares about you.”

Kiara took the cup and looked at Mario Yuno, who was surrounded by a crowd of people, then glanced at Yuzo Joel.

“Yeah, there are still people who care about me.”

With so many people protecting her by her side, she would be too fussy if she still felt her life was not good.

Mario Yuno was determined not to let Kiara make contact with these people. He hadn’t dealt much with them, but from bits and pieces of Kiara’s comments, he knew they were bad news. Kiara’s real father had been sick, and her stepfather had died; surely, she wasn’t as nonchalant as she appeared. He would shield her from these messy situations if he could.

“Call that little bastard out!” The one leading was Uncle, his face filled with aggression, pointing at Kiara in the car and shouting. Auntie next to him was covering her nose, putting on an expression of deep sorrow and heartbreak.

“What kind of situation is this? The third brother hasn’t been dead long enough to get cold, and he raised a wolf cub that doesn’t even wear mourning clothes, heartless creature! Oh, third brother, your passing was so tragic!”

Second Uncle, who was always smooth with words, played the good cop, “I know, the third brother had some misunderstandings with the child before he died, but death is most important. Your current behavior is making our family look bad in public. If you’re not afraid of losing face, hurry up and let Kiara come down to discuss the third brother’s funeral arrangements with us, or else it’s not going to look good for anyone!”

“Emma Clark, you have no conscience!”

All this noisy chaos was giving Mario Yuno a headache. He first looked back worriedly to make sure Kiara wasn’t affected, saw her sitting steadily drinking water, with Yuzo Joel beside her, turning his head to say something to her; they both seemed pretty relaxed from their expressions.

Only then did Mario Yuno turn back, his thick brows slightly furrowed.

“What’s all this noise about?”

“We are here to seek justice for the third brother!”

“Right! You can’t just leave like this! You owe us an explanation!”

These people had hardly seen Mario Yuno before, only hearing that the family Kiara married into was very impressive, but how impressive, no one knew for sure. After Kiara’s mother divorced, she kept in touch mostly with Fourth Uncle’s family; she had almost cut off contact with the other houses. Back when Arlong was still around a couple of years ago, these families would occasionally try to extract information from him. But now that Arlong was working too, they had lost contact with these siblings.

Now that someone had died, these people had other ideas, resolved to confront Kiara and tear off any pretense.

Unfortunately for them, it so happened that Camden was at home…
