Chapter 420: Married To Work

"Evan, Rose, you guys coming..." Doris was the first to notice them. She stood from her seat and approached them. She didn’t give her son a chance to take Rose upstairs to rest, but she immediately dragged Rose to join Amanda and the others in the seating area.

"Oh my, Sister Rose... I thought you would stay in the hospital until next year." Keira smiled when she saw Rose sitting with her aunt. Then she turned her gaze to Evan, who stood beside Rose. "Brother Evan, you can join grandpa over there. This is for women only..."

Keira’s words were met with laughter from Doris and the others.

Evan, "..."

"Evan, Kei is right. Can you give Rose some space!? She must be tired of you taking care of her like that...." Amanda was a little annoyed at Evan for forbidding her from visiting her niece during her stay in the hospital. Gosh!

Evan was speechless. Why did all of them attack him!?

Just as Evan wanted to say something, he saw Rose shake her head as if she was asking him to leave. Without saying a word, he went to join his grandfather.

"How’s your hand, sis?" Keira asked after she saw Evan leave.

"It doesn’t feel comfortable. I really want to take this cast off!" Rose’s face turns gloomy as she looks at her hand. This healing process was a little too much for her to bear.

"You have to endure it, my dear. You will be using the arm cast in the next few months." Doris rubbed Rose’s back and asked her to sit beside her.

"I know. I hope this can heal quickly." Rose smiled.

"You must eat more healthy food if you want to heal faster," said Molly. She was checking the situation in the dining room. She sat down right beside her daughter and joined their conversation.

"Mom, that’s why I come here. I want you to cook for me. I miss your cooking...."

"Not today, my dear. Your father invited the chef to cook for us. He doesn’t allow me to enter the kitchen. Gosh! Looks like I have to part with my hobby of cooking..." Molly slowly chuckled, remembering when Nicholas had told her not to enter the kitchen.

Just like today, for lunch and dinner, Nicholas was kind enough to assign a chef from one of the Spencer family hotels to cook for them.

"Mom, you are fortunate. Ever since you guys met, Father has spoiled you so much...."

Her mother used to suffer a lot raising her. In the past, when she was little, her mother didn’t have much time to take care of her. Her mother also didn’t have anyone to rely on. Now, her mother can enjoy her life more comfortably with her father. She feels blessed and happy for her.

"Sister Molly, I never thought my brother Nick would have that sweet side too..." Amanda laughed at the thought of her aloof and firm second brother having such a sweet and gentle demeanor.

Amanda suddenly felt envy. She wants a boyfriend like her brother, who is caring and sweet. For some reason, at this moment, Jamie Stone came to mind.

Instantly, Amanda felt like someone was squeezing her heart. She felt pain. Over the past few days, the man has not replied to the text messages she has sent. The man did not pick up her phone call either. He seems to disappear. Or avoid her?

It looks like her plans to have a boyfriend aren’t going to happen any time soon. There was no hope between them — it seemed like Jamie Stone wasn’t interested in her.

"Your brother is so kind and sweet. Amanda, I hope, one day, you will find a man like that, someone who will care and love you unconditionally." Molly smiled as she looked at Amanda. "When will you introduce my future brother-in-law?" asked Molly curiously.

Since joining the Spencer family, she had never seen Amanda bring her boyfriend. Impossible for a woman as beautiful and successful as Amanda doesn’t have a lover, right!?

"Yes, Amanda, all your brothers are married. Even your niece is also married. So when are you going to follow them?" Emily joined in.

"Amanda will never marry. She is too workaholic!" said Doris. Amanda is similar to her fool ex-husband, Anthony.

Amanda was utterly speechless.

Why do they suddenly talk about her love life? Gosh!

She felt like she wanted to disappear from the room. "Sister... Please stop teasing me." her face flushed with embarrassment. She has no problem with marriage. She really wants to get married. But, married to whom?

If only work could be said to be a partner. She’d be married to her work then!

Amanda avoided their curious stares and tried to make eye contact with her niece to ask for help getting out of this awkward conversation.

Rose bit her lip, trying to hold back her laughter — looking at how pitifully her aunt was pleading with her through her eyes.

OK, Auntie! I will help you.

"Mom, do we have any other guests? Why haven’t we had lunch yet?" Rose suddenly distracts her mother and the others.

"Huh! Are you hungry already? Wait a little bit... Your brother Sean is on his way." Molly said.

Rose was surprised to hear that. She thought Sean couldn’t celebrate the holiday with them.

"Brother Sean is so lucky. The first year Aunt Molly and Rose joined us, he got a holiday. As far as I can remember, ever since he entered the military, he has never come home on vacation like this. He is always in the middle of the forest, in an unknown place." Keira said.

"Hmm, I often feel sorry for your brother. Several times I wanted to ask him to quit as a special forces officer. But..." Emily suddenly stopped when she saw Amanda begging her to stop.

"Sister-in-law, you better stop talking about that, or someone might scold you...." Amanda chuckled.

Amanda felt sorry for her sister-in-law because every time she said those words, her father would scold her. Sean was her father’s hope. All his sons had no interest in pursuing their careers in the military, his target turned to his grandson, Sean. Luckily Sean liked the military lifestyle and was talented, so his career skyrocketed quickly.

Emily suddenly froze. She covered her mouth instantly while looking at her father-in-law. She was relieved to see the old man still playing chess seriously — not hearing their conversation. Or at least that is what she hopes for.
