Chapter 419: Not Alone Anymore
Chapter 419: Not Alone Anymore
"Lady Boss, of course... Boss Evan is the best boss I have ever known. I have worked for him since I was a teenager. And to this day, I have never thought of stopping working for him." What Gavin said this time came from the bottom of his heart.
Even though his big boss sometimes can be irrational, he played an essential role in his life.
"Wife, you heard that!? Well, I’m a good boss for them. I would never hurt them." There was a proud smile that framed Evan’s face.
This time, he didn’t punish Oscar and Sam — what his wife said was the right thing, and neither of them deserved to be punished. However, Oscar is currently busy investigating the assault case that occurred in Brooklyn. And as for Sam, he is still recovering. He won’t be back in action until next year.
Until Sam returns from his leave, Evan will stay to protect his wife. He has delegated all his work to executives in the company. He would never make a second mistake, leaving her alone.
Hearing Evan’s words, Rose slowly looked at him — she silently chuckled. She knew Gavin was lying, but she was too lazy to play dumb with them. She would use her honey traps when they got home to force him to tell the truth.
She secretly made a plan in her mind as her eyes looked outside the window and amaze looking at the snow.
Before long...
Their car arrives at Rose’s parent’s house.
Rose was speechless when she saw her mother and father waiting for them at the main door.
"Why are they waiting outside in this freezing weather!?" She muttered as she wanted to open the door, but Evan held her back.
"Wait! I’ll go down first."
How could she forget? Since they were dating, Evan vowed to not let her open the car door, and it seems he has not forgotten his promise. Instantly, she felt warm inside — her husband was such a gentleman.
Rose smiled as she held Evan’s hand getting off the car. A cold wind gently slapped her face, chilling her body slightly. Fortunately, Evan’s warm hands made her feel much more comfortable as they walked toward her parents.
"Mom, Dad... it’s so cold outside. Why are you guys waiting here!? Hurry, go inside." Rose walked faster towards them.
Winter in the capital city was much colder than in East City, her hometown. Because the capital city’s position was not far from the North City — the northernmost city of Astington country.
Rose likes winter and snow, but she likes summer more. Before marrying Evan, she would usually stay at home, spending time in her room or watching television every winter, every weekend, or holiday. She doesn’t like outdoor activities.
However, after she saw the scenery around her parent’s house, she couldn’t ignore it. She wanted to explore this place.
The expanse of trees covered in snow looked foreign to her eyes. She had never seen them in person. And besides, something caught her attention; when the wind blew, the tree branches made a beautiful rhythm that she had never heard before. Rose was mesmerized.
Rose had planned to take a walk to the hill behind the house the following day. However, she worried her plan would fail — her husband worried too much about her health. He was even stricter than her doctor.
"Rose, why are you wearing light and thin clothes!?" Molly ignored her daughter’s words, scolding her instead for wearing only a trench coat during the winter. She took Rose’s hand from Evan and pulled her into the house.
Molly also scolds Evan as they walk, "Son, don’t let your wife go out using this light coat, it’s quite cold in this area. She hasn’t recovered yet, so you should pay attention to her condition."
Rose was speechless hearing her mother scold Evan. She looked at Evan with regretful-looking eyes because earlier, she rejected him when he forced her to wear a winter coat.
"Yes, mother, I’ll make sure to remember that...." Evan replied as he followed them inside.
Arriving at the living room...
Rose was surprised that the large living room now looked cramped because almost everyone in her family was there.
She saw her uncle Jayson with aunt Emily talking to each other. And not far from where they were, she saw her grandfather and grandfather Collins playing chess by the fireplace.
In another corner nearby, Aunt Amanda is watching a movie with Keira and her mother-in-law, Doris. The only one not seen in the room was Sean — she felt sorry for Sean, who had to work on the holiday.
Rose felt a foreign feeling when she saw their warmth toward each other. She felt happy to see them, but at the same time, she felt sad — remembering her past with her mother.
In the past, when Rose and her mother lived in East City, they never felt a New Year family gathering like this. Usually, they just spent their holiday having a casual dinner and watching television, after which they would sleep without waiting for the new year to come.
In her past life, New Year’s Eve had always been like any other night. Nothing special, and nothing to celebrate about.
Now, watching the warmth of her family spending the holidays together, for some reason, made her heart feel warm. And without realizing it, her eyes started to fill with tears.
"Mom, I’m so happy that we finally met dad and got to spend our new year with all of them," Rose whispered to her mother. Molly was startled to hear her daughter’s trembling voice, and when she saw her teary eyes, she couldn’t help but feel the same way – feeling moved.
Molly hugged her daughter tightly. "I’m happy too. We are not alone anymore, dear... We have them around us to be with us and to protect us!"
Nicholas and Evan, who heard their words, were also moved. They could only wait silently for them and be lost in their thoughts.
