Chapter 95: Another Bet With Foolish Justin
In the shooting range,
Iris and Justin prepared to practice in line. Their training today would involve shooting to move objects at varying distances.
While they readied themselves, curiosity struck Justin’s mind. He glanced at Iris before asking, "Iris, how’s your relationship with Xavier?" It had been several days since their last meeting, and he was genuinely curious about Iris and his lord’s progress.
Noticing that Iris ignored his question — she continued to prepare the weapons he would use for practice — it made him chuckle. With a playful tone, he added, "Come on, Iris Gray, after you’ve successfully grasped his heart, are you going to abandon our friendship?"
Iris, "..."
She could only shoot him a quick, annoyed glance, too lazy to indulge his curiosity. Sharing the details of her rapidly progressing relationship with Xavier was out of the question. Just the thought of their intimate moments in Darkhill was enough to make her blush uncontrollably, and she wasn’t ready to reveal that to Justin, a keen observer who had a knack for being annoying.
’Gosh! I better stop talking to him!’
"Tsk... Tsk... It seems someone has conveniently forgotten how she once begged for my help," Justin remarked, shaking his head playfully as he took aim and fired at his target. However, Iris’s irked tone caught his attention.
"Well, I have you to thank for that," she sighed deeply as their gazes locked. "We’re just enjoying our vacation..."
"Wow! So, are you guys really heading to his beach house?" Justin asked with a tinge of envy in his voice. He had never been there, and he knew it was a place Xavier held dear — a place where no one else was allowed to go except her. He narrowed his eyes trying to read Iris’s thoughts.
"What’s on the agenda for the two lovebirds in that secluded place!?" Justin asked teasingly.
Iris rolled her eyes and turned her attention back to her target. "Stop your curiosity, my friend. Let’s practice!" She maintained her smile but endured the frustration in her heart as she scolded him internally.
"Bwahaha... Alright!" Justin said. "Let’s make a bet, Iris!" He continues his words while staring thoughtfully at Iris.
’What’s he up to now... A bet? Again!’ She couldn’t help but vent her frustrations internally.
"A bet?" Iris’ eyebrows arched slightly at his stupid suggestion.
"Yeah! If I win, spill all the juicy details about your sweet holiday with ahem... Xavier," he grinned, his mischievous smile gracing his face. "But... if you win, I promise to never bug you again. How about that?"
"Justin, has anyone ever told you that you are the most shameless human being ever to grace this earth?"
Justin couldn’t help but laugh at her words. "Hahaha, how did you find out?"
Iris was utterly speechless. Instantly, she wanted to whack this foolish man with a slipper.
"Justin Darkwood! How many bets have we made?" She said softly, "Gosh! Don’t you remember we still have a bet? You know, the one about whose score is higher? Perhaps you’ve conveniently forgotten about that one?" She tried her best to remind the ever-forgetful Justin.
"I know, but... this bet is just so much more fun." He flashed a broad smile, revealing a set of pearly white teeth. Iris simply chose to ignore him.
"Come on... Why do you look so scared? Are your shooting skills so bad that you’re terrified of losing?" Justin taunted, changing his strategy and aiming for her self-esteem.
Iris, however, remained silent.
Justin’s winning smile widened. He was absolutely confident that this girl would likely take his bait. And, if they were to bet, this girl had no chance of winning.
He knew that Iris had never practiced shooting before. She had only been practicing shooting for a few days, standing no chance against him. In fact, Justin was confident he could win even if he closed his eyes when shooting.
Even though Iris knew she had fallen into Justin’s trap, she trusted her shooting abilities. As long as Justin didn’t have divine eyes like the ability she acquired during a mission, she was confident she could beat him.
However, to secure her win, she needed a strategy, right? She chuckled inwardly when an idea crossed her mind.
Iris sighed deeply before glancing at Justin, "You know I’m just learning to shoot, right?"
He cleared his throat before answering her, "Yeah, I know."
"How could I win against a professional shooter like you?" Iris said in a pitiful tone. She had seen him shoot, and he was outstanding. "I don’t have a chance to win, Justin. So, forget it!"
"Oh, don’t worry about that. I’ll give you an advantage," he smiled reassuringly.
"Really?" Iris said, maintaining her smile but struggling to hold back her laughter, amused at how easy it was to fool this man.
"Yes. I’ll close my eyes. Out of three shots, you only have to hit one bullseye. If you manage to hit it, then I’ll admit that you win," Justin suggested.
Of course, Iris gladly accepted his suggestion. This was what she had been waiting for.
"Deal!!" She said calmly, even though in her heart, she was cheering because she would witness the defeat of this foolish Justin.
Without delay, Iris asked him to shoot first after they decided on the shooting distance – 50 meters.
Iris held her smile as she looked at him with closed eyes, aiming his gun at the target. Instantly, three gunshots rang out, and numbers appeared on the monitor screen: 10, 10, and 9.
"Wow! Justin, you are indeed a pro!" Iris raised her hand and gave him a thumbs-up, sincerely praising him. She knew how difficult it was to shoot bullseye with closed eyes, and he managed to hit 2.
"Hahaha, don’t worry... You will also hit it. You just need one..." Justin grinned, trying to lift her spirits.
Iris could only return his smile.
Later, three shots were heard as Iris shot her target without hesitation. When the results appeared on the screen, Justin’s jaw dropped.
"The heck!! H-How could you..." He muttered while looking at Iris in shock. Then he turned to look at the monitor again to ensure he hadn’t seen the wrong numbers, but the results were still the same: 10, 10, 10.
