Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 96: Part Ways?

Chapter 96: Part Ways?

"The heck!! H-How could you..." He muttered while looking at Iris in shock. Then he turned to look at the monitor again to ensure he hadn’t seen the wrong numbers, but the results were still the same: 10, 10, 10.

"Did I win?" Iris asked, ignoring Justin’s shocked expression.

"Yes, you won! But how did you do it? How could you hit the bullseye three times?" Justin asked, walking toward Iris. He then glanced again at the distant target and checked her gun. He still couldn’t believe this girl had hit the bullseye three times. However, after his inspection, everything seemed normal. She hadn’t played any tricks, which left him confused.

Iris stifled her laughter, enjoying Justin’s bewilderment. She maintained a calm expression before responding, "What do you mean, ’how did I do that’? Of course, I used this gun..." She said, pointing the gun on the table, then glanced at him with a hint of annoyance, pretending to be angry.

Justin was left speechless.

"I mean... how did you achieve a perfect score?" Justin couldn’t help but voice his frustration, even though his question seemed silly.

"How should I know!?" She shrugged her shoulders while getting ready to resume practice, ignoring him. However, when she noticed Justin was still looking at her with his sharp gaze, she smiled and said, "Ever heard of talent?"

His confusion deepened.

"What about beginner’s luck?" Iris added with her nonchalant expression. Suddenly, Justin’s confused gaze vanished when he heard that.

"You’re right. It must be beginner’s luck!" He said, smiling at Iris before asking her to repeat the shooting; he wanted to be certain.

"Gosh! Why should I?" Iris shook her head, ignoring him. This time, she didn’t bother to repeat anything as she started her shooting practice; shooting at moving objects at various distances.

Justin no longer bothered her. He let her peacefully practice as he suddenly received a scolding from Xavier in his mind. After seeing her finish, he excused himself.

"Iris, I have something to take care of upstairs. You can practice here alone, right?" Justin asked.

She glanced at him curiously but restrained herself from asking further. She simply nodded.

"If you’re finished here, you can return to the living room." Justin continued.

"Hmm, I will!" She said, feeling relieved because she couldn’t all out to train herself if Justin was around. That man will be curious about her skill, and she doesn’t have time to explain anything to him.

After seeing Justin close the door, Iris’s expression turned cold, and her smile gradually faded. Her eyes sharpened, quite different from the warmth she usually displayed around Xavier and the others.

She switched the course to advanced mode. Automatically, the distance and speed of moving objects increased threefold. She wanted to ensure that her shooting skills hadn’t diminished from her past experiences; she hoped they had improved significantly.

...

Immersed in her training, she didn’t realize that the door was slowly open, and Xavier entered. He intentionally didn’t approach her directly but stood behind, observing her shooting skills. This was the first time he had witnessed her true abilities; usually, when they trained together, she just played around — didn’t take her shooting practice seriously.

But now, just watching how intense her focus was and how skillfully she hit all her targets perfectly put him at ease about leaving her behind. She was undoubtedly capable of protecting herself.

Xavier slowly approached Iris as he noticed her placing the gun on the table. With his calm and gentle tone, he said, "I had no idea your shooting skills were this awesome..."

Iris was taken aback by Xavier’s sudden presence in the room. Before she could even turn to face him, she could feel his hands on her slim waist, gently turning her so that she was facing him. As their eyes locked, she felt her heartbeat gradually quicken.

"You are incredibly talented, Iris Gray." Leaning in, he planted a loving kiss on her blushing cheek.

"Xavier... You... you saw it?" Iris asked with concern. She deliberately hid her abilities, fearing he might become suspicious of her true identity.

Xavier could sense the anxiety in her eyes. Trying to calm her, he pulled her into his embrace, holding her tightly. He whispered near her ear, "Yes, I saw it. My woman is remarkably talented... I believe you must have inherited that skill from your late father, right?" He spoke casually, trying to soothe her worries about her true identity being exposed.

The tension on Iris’ face gradually dissipated upon hearing Xavier’s words. His calm tone and lack of suspicion put her at ease. She managed a smile, even though it didn’t quite reach her eyes, and replied, "It certainly seems that way..."

"Have you finished your shooting practice?" Xavier asked, releasing his embrace to meet her calm gaze.

"Yes, I’m done," Iris confirmed. She no longer needed to practice her actual skills. So far, her abilities remained intact despite being born into this young girl’s body.

"Very well, let’s head upstairs. There’s something I wish to discuss with you," Xavier said, leading Iris out of the shooting range and up to the third floor.

Seated together on the third-floor sofa, they had a panoramic view of the snowy forest stretching as far as the eye could see. However, Iris couldn’t fully appreciate the beautiful scenery outside. She stole occasional glances at Xavier beside her, noticing an unusual expression on his face—tinged with anxiety and annoyance.

Sensing that something weighed on his mind, Iris couldn’t resist asking, "Xavier, what do you want to say!?"

Xavier, in response, took a deep breath upon hearing her question. He didn’t rush to reply. Instead, he gently clasped her hand, his fingers gracefully dancing across her slender and beautiful fingers while avoiding her curious gaze.

After a few moments had passed, he slowly raised his eyes to meet hers and spoke softly, "Iris, it appears that we may have to part ways for a while..."

Iris’s brow furrowed at his words. ’Part ways?’ She repeats his words in her heart, feeling puzzled.
