Chapter 94: Away From Her
Chapter 94: Away From Her
When the car stopped right in front of Darkwood Villa, Iris was surprised to see Niles there. His expression differed from his usual calm face; this time, his face looked stiff and even paler.
"What happened, Xavier? Why does Niles look sick?" Iris asked. Feeling worried, she followed him out of the car.
Xavier didn’t answer her immediately. Instead, he fixed his gaze on Niles as if they were communicating silently through their eyes. After a few seconds, Xavier mirrored Niles’ expression, but this went unnoticed by Iris.
"Iris, I need to speak with Niles," Xavier suddenly stopped and turned to face Iris, who looked up at him with a curious gaze. When he saw her nod, he continued, "You can go to the shooting range with Justin." As he spoke, Justin appeared from the door and greeted Iris.
"Okay, don’t mind me," Iris understood that something important was happening, and she didn’t want to delay Xavier with her curiosity.
Xavier nodded and gently touched her neck, rubbing her cheeks lovingly. He whispered, "Have fun practicing your shooting skills. I’ll join you later; I won’t be long."
"Hmm, go," Iris returned his smile to reassure him. After watching Xavier and Niles enter the house, she turned to Justin, and together, they headed to the underground shooting range.

Meanwhile, in Xavier’s study room,
Silence settled in the room after Niles had reported the results of his investigation to Xavier.
Xavier stood by the glass window, his sharp eyes fixated on the snow-covered trees stretching as far as his vision allowed. His facial features were impeccable, but the coldness on his face was bone-chilling.
He remained silent for a few moments, lost in his own deep thought; someone had deliberately breached his territory, breaking through a magic barrier to release several beasts from his forbidden forest area into the human habitats. This situation mirrored events that had occurred several hundred years ago. What heightened his unease was that these individuals not only possessed knowledge of magic runes but were also clearly not ordinary humans, possibly akin to him.
What troubled him most at this moment was deciphering the motives behind releasing the beasts into this peaceful small town. Furthermore, he questioned the timing of these events. Could it be linked to the recent appearance of God Helpers in this area?
A series of unanswered questions swirled in his mind, making him even more confused.
Niles stood a few steps behind Xavier and dared not move, let alone voice his question. He could sense the oppressive aura radiating from Xavier, filling the room with a frigid tension so sharp it felt like a thousand razors slicing through his skin.
After a brief pause, Xavier turned his gaze towards Niles and urged, "Speak your mind, Niles." He knew Niles had something important to convey but had been holding back.
"Milord," Niles began, his voice quivering slightly, "I can’t help but wonder if they are aware of your presence in this location."
A frown appeared on Xavier’s face, and for a while, he appeared to be thinking about something deeply. Several moments passed before he replied, "I’m also starting to think about that possibility. However, I am curious how they could have discovered my whereabouts. Only a handful of individuals are aware of my presence here..."
"That concerns me deeply, Milord," Niles responds to his words. "That is why I need more investigation."
Xavier offered no immediate response, his silence serving as an unspoken reprimand to Niles.
Feeling his body turn as cold as ice, Niles hastened to explain, "Milords... What troubles me most is the potential threat to Lady Iris Gray. Should they become aware of your relationship with her or not? This might be—" his voice trails off.
Xavier’s expression darkened instantly, his golden eyes shifting to a crimson hue, exuding an unmistakable aura of killing intent. "Are you suggesting that they might target my woman?" he asked angrily.
Niles swiftly shook his head. "Milord, I cannot say for certain. However, Lady Iris has become your vulnerability. For the time being, I recommend that you distance yourself from Lady Iris, including avoiding being seen in town with her until I conclude my investigation and locate them."
Veins bulge on Xavier’s forehead as he responds, his tone laden with anger, "Do you have an alternative suggestion? How can I leave her in a situation like this?" His words sounded composed, but his underlying fury was palpable. He strongly rejected the idea of leaving Iris.
"Milord, this is the only way I could come up with," Niles explained apologetically. He had pondered alternative solutions but believed this to be the best option at present. "And please, do not be overly concerned. Justin and I will remain by her side and ensure her safety during your absence."
Another tense silence hangs in the room. Niles hesitated to speak further, fully aware that his lord’s current fury was unprecedented. Any wrong words could potentially cost him his life. So, he opted for silence, waiting for Xavier’s instructions.
Xavier’s thoughts raced as he questioned potential solutions to ensure Iris’s safety. He knew Iris’s abilities as a GH Assassin, but she was still relatively inexperienced. The thought of Iris accidentally encountering more formidable creatures will pose a significant risk to her life.
Niles’s suggestion began to make sense to him. They remained uncertain whether the individual responsible for breaching the magic barrier was aware of his identity as Xavier Darkwood.
For now, the most prudent course of action was to distance himself from this location until they could confirm the situation.
Xavier couldn’t jeopardize Iris’s peaceful existence simply because his enemy had tracked him down. It wasn’t out of fear but rather a weariness of being drawn into conflicts initiated by those foolish enough to challenge him.
"Niles, continue your task immediately. You have one week," Xavier declared firmly, his voice resonating in the room. Niles accepted his orders with a firm nod.
Before Niles left the room, Xavier added, "Summon a few people to assist you in this task."
