Chapter 93: Freeze Time!
Chapter 93: Freeze Time!
"Xavier, are you in there? Please reply to me, huh!?" Iris called again after a few attempts, but nothing came out of his mouth. Not even a hmmm. "Are you all right?" she asked worriedly, concerned that something might have happened to him in the bathroom.
Iris was growing increasingly tense. Several minutes had passed since she called him, yet there was no response.
"Xavier, I’ll count to three. If you don’t answer me, I’ll force my way in!" She said, preparing herself to break down the door. "One... Two... Three..." She counted, yet there was still no response.
Iris had no other option but to forcefully open the door. She gripped the doorknob and was stunned to find the door was unlocked. As the door swung open, her eyes widened in surprise.
"You—" Iris suddenly froze when Xavier’s finger snapped in the air.
Xavier chuckled inwardly while looking at Iris, who remained frozen in front of him after he stopped the time just as he reappeared in the bathroom. His eyes locked onto Iris’s beautiful eyes, which were filled with shock, and then slowly lowered to her dainty, perfect nose before coming to a rest at her cherry lips.
Instantly, something stirred within him. He felt a magnetic pull towards her alluring lips as if they were silently inviting him to partake in a kiss. Xavier leaned in slowly, his lips meeting hers briefly but passionately.
As their lips parted, he couldn’t help but smile, having stolen a kiss from his beloved. However, he knew it was no fun to kiss her when she was frozen like this; he longed to feel her warmth and response fully.
Not wanting to leave her frozen, Xavier swiftly put an earbud into his ear and turned his body, pretending to wash his hands. After a subtle snap of his fingers, he turned back to face her.
"Iris? What happened... why did you come in?" he asked, feigning confusion. However, he restrained himself from laughing when he witnessed her shocked and confused expression.
"Y-You... W-Why you," Iris stuttered, clearly flustered as she looked at Xavier standing before her. "W-Why didn’t you respond to me when I called you??" She regained her composure after silently scolding herself.
"Oh, you called me?" Xavier asked, arching an eyebrow slightly. "I’m sorry, I didn’t hear you. I was wearing these..." He removed his earbuds and stowed them in his pocket.
Iris’s face flushed red as she realized her foolishness for forcefully entering the bathroom while Xavier was inside. She felt an overwhelming desire to vanish from the situation. Gosh!
"What’s wrong? Why did you barge in?" He approached her, still standing by the door. Gently, he placed his hands on her slender waist and pulled her into his embrace. For a while, he enjoyed her warmth. However, it didn’t last long because Iris tried to push him away.
"Xavier... Let’s go out. Grandma might misunderstand if she sees us in here," Iris blurted out in a panic. She didn’t want her grandmother to tease her about their intimate contact if she happened to see them here.
"Relax, Iris. Don’t worry too much..." Xavier said calmly. He could easily erase Grandma Gray’s memories or freeze time if she were to approach. Besides, he had a keen sense of knowing if someone was coming without needing to look. "...Granny Gray is busy at the cafe. She won’t bother us."
Hearing Xavier’s soothing voice, Iris finally allowed herself to relax in his embrace, inhaling his fresh, masculine scent. However, after a few minutes had passed, Iris couldn’t ignore her hunger any longer. "Xavier, can we eat now? I’m starving—"
Xavier immediately released his embrace and led her to the dining table. He felt guilt for causing a delay that had left her famished. As she started to eat, he watched with satisfaction, relieved to see her nourishing herself.
In silence, Xavier sipped his tasteless coffee. Apart from beast blood, everything that entered his body tasted the same and was rather unappealing, even disgusting. However, he forced himself to pretend to enjoy it. After so many years in this world, he had grown accustomed to eating and drinking like a normal, mortal human.
"What are you planning to do today?" Xavier asked after observing Iris finish her meal.
"I’m not sure, but maybe I’ll just stay home. How about you?" She glanced at him. After they had confirmed their relationship, she felt a growing desire to be with him all the time.
"Can you come to my house? Let’s spend the day there..." Xavier suggested. He didn’t mind staying at Iris’s house for an extended period, but it seemed like she was concerned about her grandmother.
Iris nodded, preferring to stay at Xavier’s place but suddenly she remembered something, "Xavier, tomorrow... I have to go to the hospital—"
Xavier interrupted Before she could finish her words, "Why do you need to go to the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?" He asked. Concern radiating from his deep eyes.
Iris smiled slightly, witnessing Xavier’s worried expression, "I’m not sick. But I have to drive Grandma to the hospital for her routine medical check-up..." she explained.
In truth, her grandma had initially insisted that she didn’t need to accompany her. Still, Iris had insisted, especially after sensing that her grandma might be hiding something. She needed to find out what it was.
Relief washed over Xavier’s eyes upon hearing that Iris was okay. "Do you need me to accompany you tomorrow? I can drive you there..." He offered.
Iris promptly refused. She didn’t want to burden Xavier. Besides, driving one hour back and forth from home to the hospital wasn’t a big deal for her.
"Okay, but if you need anything, you must call me," he said seriously.
"Hmm, I will—"
...
After Iris finished cleaning the kitchen, she bid farewell to Cassandra and headed to Xavier’s house.
The street toward Xavier’s house was as empty as usual. On the roadside, the trees were still covered with thick snow, making her feel like she was entering another part of their town.
When the car stopped right in front of Darkwood Villa, Iris was surprised to see Niles there. His expression differed from his usual calm face; this time, his face looked stiff and even paler.
