Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 88: Incredibly Charming

Chapter 88: Incredibly Charming

After a while, Iris finally finished her chicken and salad. It was only then that she noticed Xavier had only eaten salad. She felt concerned, seeing him looking pale and yet consuming only salad.

"Xavier, you should eat more. I’m worried you’ll get sick, and—" She paused, fearing she might offend him if she mentioned that he seemed weak.

He felt extremely pleased hearing her concern. "I’m on a diet. I only eat once a day."

Iris was taken aback. How could he be on a diet when he appeared as sickly as a patient? She might have genuinely believed he was unwell if not for his bright golden eyes.

She wanted to urge him to stop this diet but was concerned he might see her as someone trying to control him. So, she decided to keep her worries to herself.

"What time do we plan to return to Silenthill?" She asked casually, trying to shift the conversation.

"Do you still have matters to attend to here? If not, we can leave around noon..." Xavier desired to prolong their stay, but he had only obtained permission for one night. He didn’t want to risk losing Grandma Gray’s trust by extending their holiday here.

"That sounds great! It’ll give us more time to enjoy the sea..." Iris replied as she rose from her seat and followed Xavier to the seating area. They continued to chat while enjoying the amazing view outside.

Xavier turned his gaze to her, "Iris, do you like this place that much?"

Iris’ eyes beamed when she heard his question. She enthusiastically responded, "Yes, I love the beach and warm places. I usually spend my time on the beach, enjoying the summer—" she suddenly halted. Once again, she had almost revealed too much about herself.

’Stop exposing yourself!’ Iris couldn’t help but scold herself inwardly. Now, she could only hope Xavier didn’t know too much about young Iris. If he did, she might be in trouble!

Xavier smiled inwardly as he watched Iris suddenly fall silent. He didn’t need the ability to read minds to know what she was thinking. Gently, he held her warm hand and squeezed it reassuringly. "Iris, we can return to this place when the weather is warmer or whenever you want..."

Iris was so taken aback by his touch that she didn’t respond immediately to his words. Every instance of physical contact with this man caused her heart to race, even if it was just holding hands. He seemed to electrify her, stirring a tumultuous feeling within her.

She slowly raised her head, meeting his mesmerizing gaze. She simply gazed back at him for a moment with a radiant smile gracing her face. After a while, she happily nodded in agreement with the idea.

However, another thought crossed her mind. She was planning to travel abroad to visit her hometown and investigate her own death and her killer’s identity.

"Xavier, if one day I decide to journey to another continent, would you consider accompanying me?" she asked carefully, worried that he might misunderstand her request. Seeing Xavier appear surprised by her words, she quickly added, "You know... my grandmother would never allow me to go alone. And if I were to tell her that I intend to go with you—"

"Of course! You must travel with me. How could I possibly allow you to venture to a foreign land alone?" he declared before Iris could finish her sentence.

This is what Xavier had been waiting for to learn about her origin in her past life. He didn’t believe Lucian’s words; that old geezer said it was merely a coincidence that this girl was placed in Silenthill. By discovering where her actual origin was, perhaps he could find a clue about her past life.

A joyful smile filled Iris’ eyes upon hearing Xavier’s words.

’So, this is what it’s like to have a lover?’ she murmured under her breath. For some reason, her cheeks felt much warmer. "Thank you, Xavier," she said softly.

...

The day passed quickly. They stayed at home, enjoying each other’s company and engaging in various conversations.

Before returning to Silenthill, Xavier once again cooked a meal for Iris, ensuring she had an early dinner. He was concerned that they might arrive late and she would be too tired to get her dinner.

The drive back to Silenthill felt much faster for Iris, as she no longer felt awkward in the car with him, unlike when they had left the day before. Three hours now seemed to pass like mere minutes.

At 7 PM, Xavier’s car finally parked in front of Iris’ house. He didn’t get out to escort her inside, knowing her fatigue and need for rest.

"Iris, go and get some rest. I’ll call you tomorrow morning," Xavier said, releasing her from his arms. But before Iris could exit the car, he pulled her back into his embrace. Then, he leaned down, his lips meeting hers in a deep, warm kiss.

When their lips slowly parted, Iris found herself breathing heavily, filling her chest with as much air as she could, all while hiding her blushing face in Xavier’s neck to calm herself.

"Iris, I wish we could stay like this longer," Xavier whispered in her ear, prompting a silent smile from her.

After a few moments had passed, she voiced her thoughts, "Xavier, I never knew you had this side too. I mean... your sweet side. I thought all this time you were a very cold, distant, and passive person in relationships, but—" She couldn’t finish her sentence as she felt Xavier’s hand gently push her away so he could see her face more clearly.

"But what?" Xavier asks, their eyes locked to each other. He was curious about the rest of her words.

Blushing, Iris continued, "You’re so incredibly charming and—" She abruptly stopped talking, realizing that her cheeks were likely as red as a tomato.

"—I have to go now. Call me when you get home. Bye!" She quickly opened the car door, jumped out, and rushed into the house without glancing back at him. She felt too embarrassed by her thoughts.
