Chapter 87: Worry About His Health
Chapter 87: Worry About His Health
Instantly, Iris’s hand hung in the air just before touching the doorknob. Her body tensed upon hearing Xavier’s voice from behind.
’My goodness! Why is he up so early?’ Iris wondered. She turned around to face him and could sense the anxiety radiating from his eyes. "I want to jog—"
"Jogging? Are you sure? It’s still dark and cold outside..." Xavier expressed his concern. When he saw her nod, his worry grew. "Alright, wait here—"
Iris was confused, looking at Xavier having gone inside. She patiently waited for his return.
After a few minutes, Xavier reappeared wearing his dark long coat. He held something in his hand and passed it to Iris. "Put this on—" he said, offering her the black lightweight fabric.
Iris was surprised to find a windbreaker jacket. She was actually searching for this jacket in her closet but she couldn’t find it. "Thank you, Xavier..." She expressed her gratitude and hastily donned the windbreaker. Once she finished, she looked up at him. "Y-You want to join me for the jog?" she asked, perplexed as he was dressed in a long coat rather than a windbreaker like her.
"I’m not particularly fond of physical training. I’ll just keep you company," he casually replied. His hand slowly raised to ensure her jacket was properly zipped. Although his gesture caught her off guard, she didn’t refuse it. She truly appreciated his small kindness like this. "Alright, let’s go..." He continued while opening the door.
As the door swung open, a sudden blast of cold air met Iris’s face. She was momentarily taken aback but quickly adapted to the chill, beginning a light run towards the beach, with Xavier following at a leisurely pace.
Even though the sun hadn’t fully risen, Iris could still see her surroundings. Arriving at the beach, she did some stretches while waiting for Xavier to walk closer.
"Xavier, you can head back inside. It’s quite chilly here if you’re not exercising like me..." Iris expressed her concern after seeing his pale skin that seemed almost translucent.
Xavier halted near a boulder a few steps from her. He smiled faintly while putting his hands into his coat pocket. He found her words rather amusing.
"Iris, don’t worry about me. I can manage this cold just fine... Go on, finish your jog, and then we’ll have breakfast," Xavier replied nonchalantly. Being a cold-blooded creature, this level of cold posed no threat to him.
Iris could only give a slight nod at his sentence. Still, before running, she once again advised him, "Xavier, you should consider taking up some training as well. It could help you become stronger. Umm... I’m concerned that you might fall ill if you don’t stay active..." With that, she began her run, leaving Xavier with a wry smile at the earnest suggestion from the young lady.
’Iris Gray, if I were to exercise, I might accidentally harm you... I can’t afford to become stronger, or I might pose a danger to you,’ he said while shaking his head. He settled on a large rock, observing Iris as she tirelessly ran back and forth before him.
Watching her unwavering determination to grow stronger, a sense of sympathy washed over him, seeing how exhausted she appeared.
’Should I consider requesting a change to your assignment?’ he pondered inwardly, entertaining the idea. Yet, the memory of Lucian’s words halted his plan. ’Let’s see how far you can go, Iris Gray. If one day you find this to be too much, I’ll be here to lend a hand—’
...
The sun finally rose majestically above the horizon, casting its brilliant light upon the surroundings. Iris had finished her tiring run and was now enjoying the morning sunshine, which helped ease the chill, although her breathing was still a bit heavy.
Running for nearly two hours on a cold beach was undeniably challenging. Still, it had become a routine she had undertaken in the past, so this was now her new normal. Despite that, her new body remained considerably weak; she needed time to regain her optimal strength.
"Are you done?" Iris was surprised when she heard Xavier’s voice, not far behind her, breaking the silence. She turned around and found him approaching.
’Goodness, I completely forgot about him,’ Iris thought, and quickly made her way towards Xavier, her expression tinged with guilt.
"Yes, I’m finished. I’m sorry if I kept you waiting, Xavier—" She checked her watch as she spoke.
"It’s quite alright. Let’s head inside," Xavier offered his hand for Iris to take. Her acceptance brought a smile to his face. Hand in hand, they strolled back towards the house. He didn’t ask her anymore because he could feel her tiredness.

After Iris finished her shower, she stood before her wardrobe, looking at her choices. Then, she selected a pair of long black jeans and a turtleneck in a matching color. After she dried her long brown hair, she immediately left her room.
The smell of food tempted her as soon as she left the bedroom, making her feel extremely hungry. She hastened to the dining room. She was stunned when she found the food neatly arranged on the table, with Xavier already waiting for her in his chair, offering a warm smile.
Puzzled, she thought, ’Huh!? He cooked so fast?’ Checking her watch, she was shocked to know that it was now past ten. ’Gosh! Why do I spend so much time in the bathroom?’ she scolded herself, realizing she had made him wait.
"You must be hungry, Iris," Xavier pulled out a chair for her and helped her sit comfortably. He then took his seat next to her. "Eat while it’s still warm..."
Iris could only nod and savor the meal: grilled chicken breast with a fresh salad, prepared differently from the one he had made the previous night. She was stunned at its deliciousness as she began to eat the grilled chicken.
"This is delicious, Xavier," she sincerely said, stealing a glance at him.
"Eat more; you need the energy," he encouraged Iris to eat.
"Hmm," she continued eating.
