Chapter 89: A Beautiful Gift
"—I have to go now. Call me when you get home. Bye!" She quickly opened the car door, jumped out, and rushed into the house without even glancing back at him. She felt too embarrassed by her thoughts at that moment.
"How shameless, Iris Gray!! How could you imagine such a sultry night with him?" She couldn’t help but scold herself while stifling her laughter.
Walking into the house, Iris’s steps abruptly stopped, and her face stiffened as soon as she saw her grandmother standing right before her, wearing a curious expression as if she wanted to delve into her thoughts with just her gaze.
"G-Grandma," Iris greeted her nervously while offering an awkward smile, fearing that her grandmother might have overheard her previous words. "W-Why are you looking at me like that?" she continued as she walked past her and entered the living room.
She placed her belongings on the sofa before heading into the kitchen to search for a drink, doing her best to ignore her grandmother’s sharp gaze still fixed on her back. She could feel it.
After taking a water bottle from the fridge, Iris promptly opened it and emptied the bottle to soothe her suddenly dry throat.
As she sipped, she heard approaching footsteps, followed by her grandmother’s firm voice, "Girl, follow me to the sofa. We need to talk."
Iris took a deep breath and turned to see her grandmother already walking toward the sitting area. She followed and settled down across from her.
"What do you want to talk about, Grandma?" Iris asked casually, placing an empty water bottle on the table.
Cassandra didn’t immediately respond. Instead, she fixed her gaze on Iris. After a few seconds, she finally said, "Did you enjoy this sudden trip with Xavier?" Her voice sounded gentle, but Iris felt like her grandma was a detective interrogating a suspect. Geez!
"Of course, Grandma," Iris answered casually, a smile on her lips, considering the trip as a milestone in her more serious relationship with Xavier.
"Did he take good care of you?" Cassandra asked again, her tone softening and a hint of joy flashing in her eyes.
"Well, yes," Iris began, growing impatient with her grandmother’s seemingly trying to stall her time, "Grandma, could you just ask what you want to know?"
Cassandra chuckled, looking at her impatient granddaughter. "Did you... Well, you know... finally Do ’it’?"
Iris was rendered speechless. She understood what her grandma wanted to ask, but how could she answer such a question? Even just thinking about it gave her goosebumps.
"What?" Iris replied, pretending not to grasp her grandmother’s words.
Cassandra shook her head. "Don’t play innocent with me, Girl. I know you understand what I’m trying to ask—"
"Grandma, I’m exhausted. Can we discuss this tomorrow?" Iris rose from her seat and grabbed her bag and coat. But before she walked, her grandmother’s words made her stop.
"Oh, my little Iris... Grandma is so happy now that you’ve grown up," Cassandra said, laughing joyfully. "Okay, okay... Without you saying anything, Grandma can understand. I know what happened on your trip this time, but Iris, my baby, make sure you use protection. Grandma doesn’t want—"
"Grandma, please..." Iris was unable to bear hearing her grandmother’s words. "Can we skip talking about this!?" She said, her face blushing.
"Hahaha, alright, Grandma will stop," Cassandra said as she stood up from the chair. "Do you want me to make dinner?"
"No need, Grandma. Xavier and I already had dinner," Iris replied. Without waiting for her grandmother to respond, she rushed to the second floor, hiding her blushing face.
Cassandra, watching her granddaughter flee, could only smile happily as she watched Iris disappear from her sight.
"It’s nice to be young," Cassandra muttered before walking into her room.
...
After entering her room, Iris threw her bag and coat on the floor. She slumped onto the soft bed, her gaze fixed on the ceiling. Her mind reels back to what just happened.
A peculiar feeling welled up within her heart. Having someone like Grandma live with her brought her great joy. The only drawback is Grandma’s presence also aroused complex emotions in Iris’s heart. In her past life, she clearly remembered being an orphan, without family or even close friends she could trust or care about.
Why did Grandma’s teasing just now make her blush and feel embarrassed? This sensation was entirely unfamiliar to her for someone who had never experienced love or affection.
"It seems like I’ll have to get used to receiving this strange affection from now on..." Iris pondered while taking a deep breath.
While Iris was still lost in thought, a soft vibrating sound could be heard from the floor. She hurriedly rose and retrieved her coat, taking out her cell phone.
A smile graced her face as Xavier’s text message appeared on the screen. He assured her of his safe arrival and advised her to rest, promising to call her in the morning. Iris quickly typed out her response and left her phone on the bed before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
After bathing and changing into her nightgown, her gaze fell upon a black box resting on the study table in the corner. She couldn’t recall ever having seen such a box before. Filled with curiosity, she approached and opened it.
She was amazed to see a beautiful small pistol with a golden barrel adorned with intricate, rune-like engravings. The pistol’s wooden hand grip added to its allure. It was the most exquisite firearm she had ever seen, with several gold bullets accompanying it.
Perplexed, Iris mumbled, "Why is this gun here?" Just then, her phone began to vibrate once more. She rushed to the bed to check the caller, and upon seeing Gavriel’s name, she remembered his intention to give her something from the previous day.
"Gosh! So my kind and caring senior, Gavriel, wants to give me this beautiful pistol?" Iris said while smiling happily. Without hesitation, she promptly answered Gavriel’s phone call.
