"We’d better head back. It’s quite cold here..." Iris said while glancing at him. "I prefer to stay home and talk with you rather than being in a crowd like this—" Her voice suddenly trailed off when she noticed him looking at her.

"What do you want to talk about?" Xavier asked, returning his gaze to the street ahead, calmly driving the car on the empty road as they headed to his house.

Iris couldn’t suppress the questions that had been bothering her lately; she had to voice them. After taking a deep breath, she finally mustered the courage to speak her mind, "Why do you seem so kind to me, even though we’re not really dating, Xavier? Suddenly, the screeching sound of tires could be heard, and the car abruptly stopped. Iris was shocked, immediately turning her gaze to him. She was too startled by the sudden stop on the dark, empty road.

The car’s silence thickened, and Iris felt her body growing colder. She no longer wished to endure this confined space with him; she wanted to return home and find solace in her bedroom where she could think more clearly.

However, just as Iris was about to ask Xavier to continue their journey back home, she heard him call her name.

"Iris Gray," Xavier’s voice took on a gentle tone. Iris furrowed her brow before turning to look at him. "Be my girlfriend," he continued, his expression cold yet unwavering.

Amid her astonishment at his unexpected proposal, Iris was left bewildered.

"Of course, I’m reluctant," Iris finally voiced her concerns. "Because I can’t see sincerity in your eyes and voice." She spoke softly, locking her gaze onto his deep golden-yellow eyes, determined to stand her ground. Not now. She needed everything to be crystal clear before accepting his offer.

A faint frown formed on Xavier’s pale forehead, responding to her words. "You want proof of my sincerity?"

Iris fell silent, struggling to respond to his question. She fought to maintain her composure, but her calmness disappeared instantly when she saw Xavier’s face drawing closer to hers.

’Why is he getting so close? What does he want?’ Panic surged as she felt his cold breath brush against her warm face. She attempted to pull her head away, but his icy hand calmly touched her neck and gently gripped it.
