Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 81: Is He Flirting?

Chapter 81: Is He Flirting?

Iris found herself stunned upon waking in the darkness. Her surroundings were barely visible; it was night, and the only light source in the room was the moonlight seeping through the windows.

"Where am I?" Iris immediately sat up, taking a few seconds to recall her current location. "Damn! How could I oversleep?" She gently slapped her forehead, feeling foolish for oversleeping when she only intended to rest her back.

Glancing at her smartwatch, she realized it was almost 7 PM, and suddenly, Xavier’s face flashed through her mind.

Without hesitation, she got out of bed and made her way to the bathroom to wash her face. Overwhelmed by guilt, she hurried out of the bedroom and noticed the house was dimly lit, with only a few soft yellow lights in various corners.

Anxious that Xavier might have left, she called his name while searching for him in the living room, but she found no one there, not even in the kitchen.

Just as she was about to return to her room to find her cell phone, she spotted Xavier emerging from his bedroom. Her steps stopped when she realized that Xavier had already changed his clothes, his hair was still slightly damp as if he had just taken a shower.

"You’re finally awake, Iris!" Xavier said as he approached her. "Are you hungry?" He walked past her and turned on the living room and kitchen lights.

"Sorry, Xavier, I... overslept," she admitted with a guilty tone. "I’m not very hungry. How about you?"

"It’s okay," he replied. "I did the same; I took a nap." He wasn’t entirely truthful. When he returned from Silenthill after scolding Gavriel, he discovered Iris sound asleep in her room. Deciding to let her rest, he had left her undisturbed.

Iris felt relieved. She joined Xavier in the seating area and sat opposite him.

"Do you want to go out? We can find a restaurant for dinner, only a fifteen-minute drive from here," Xavier offered.

Iris’ face lit up with joy. Eventually, she would do something other than eat and sleep. Well, that’s what she did after arriving at this place. Now, she is excited to explore the town.

"Hmm, I like that idea," she said.

"Go change and wear some warm clothes. It’s quite cold outside."

Suddenly, Iris recalled the clothes in her wardrobe. "Xavier, about the clothes in the wardrobe, did you buy them all for me?" she asked curiously.

"Yes. I wasn’t sure if you’d like the style," Xavier replied casually, but Iris was utterly stunned by his words. "If you don’t like them, we can go shopping again so you can choose styles you—"

"No. No need to buy anything. I like all the clothes there. Thank you, but isn’t it too much to buy so many new clothes for me? It must have cost you a lot, Xavier..." She felt uncomfortable with him spending so much money on her.

Xavier didn’t immediately respond. Instead, he slowly rubbed his eyebrows, suppressing a smile upon hearing her words.

After a while, he finally stood up from his chair and said, "Consider it a gift for you. Now, go change quickly, or all the restaurants will be closed by the time we get to the city." He left her before she could say anything else.

Iris was left speechless, but she didn’t remain in her seat for long. She hurriedly returned to her bedroom to change into warmer clothes.

Before long, their car left the house. The road grew dark after crossing the main gate, which was about a mile from the house. There were no lights along the road they were traveling on, and only the dimness of the moon and the car’s headlights illuminated the road.

"Xavier, did you rent this place?" Iris asked once their car had passed through the automatic gate.

"Nope. That’s the house my parents left behind," he replied while focusing on driving the car.

Iris was surprised to learn this. She glanced at him. "Has someone been staying at the house? It looks so clean."

"No one lives there permanently. However, there’s someone who comes to clean the house twice a week. Even though it’s empty on weekdays, I usually visit during the weekends or holidays," he explained.

"I see. No wonder the house looks immaculate and well-maintained, even though it’s vacant." Somehow, she is feeling content knowing that the house belonged to Xavier. It meant there was a possibility of her visiting again during the summer or autumn.

And it would be nice if they came to this place again next summer. She hoped that at that time, they could explore the ocean; earlier, she noticed a boat docked not far from the house.

After a brief silence, Iris asked again, "Do Justin and Niles always come to this place too?"

"No one else comes here, only me..." Xavier’s voice trailed off as he glanced at her. When their eyes met, he continued, "You’re the only person I’ve ever brought here, Iris."

Iris remained silent, however, she could feel her face blushing at his bold words.

’Is he trying to flirt with me? Why is he becoming more and more obvious now?’ Iris couldn’t help but be puzzled by Xavier’s behavior.

Lately, he had been showing her what a boyfriend should do for his girlfriend: preparing a room just for her at Darkwood Villa, buying her numerous beautiful and expensive clothes, cooking for her, and now, admitting that she was the only person he had ever invited to his house.

’Has he truly fallen for me now, for real?’ She narrowed her eyes as she observed him, attempting to read his thoughts but couldn’t find the answers she was searching for.

Understanding what was going on in this man’s mind at the moment proved difficult for her.

Iris could only turn her gaze toward the window, trying to hide her blushing face. She tried to enjoy the approaching city lights as the car entered the main street.

Soon, Xavier parked his car in front of a fancy restaurant.
