Chapter 80: Someone Upset Him
Now, she regretted telling him that Gavriel was her cousin.
"Hello, Gavriel," Iris replied, mirroring his chilly greeting on the other end.
"Where are you?" he inquired, still maintaining his typical frigid tone.
"I’m in Darkhill," Iris answered in her low tone.
"What? Why did you go there again?" Gavriel sounded surprised because he knew the distance between Silenthill and Darkhill was quite far, and Iris loathed long drives.
Iris cursed him inwardly because he spoke too loud. She swallowed nervously, fearing that Xavier might overhear their conversation. She hadn’t mentioned to him that she had been to this city with Gavriel just a week ago.
"What’s the matter? Why are you looking for me?" Iris ignores his question and asks him instead. She couldn’t afford to speak long with him while Xavier sat before her. Even though he appeared disinterested, she had a sense that Xavier was secretly paying attention to her phone call with Gavriel.
Gavriel heaved a long sigh when Iris ignored his question. He said, "I’m in front of your house now. There’s something I want to give you."
Iris was confused hearing his words, feeling weird because Gavriel usually entered her bedroom as if he owned the place. Why was he waiting for her in front of her house this time?
"Just leave it in my bedroom. Why wait for me?" Iris suggested in a hushed tone. However, Xavier, who sat across from her, suddenly turned somber upon hearing her words. "I won’t be home until tomorrow," she added.
"Oh, so you’re on a day trip there? Did you go with your friends—" Gavriel’s voice trailed off as a particular lord’s face flashed in his mind. "Iris..." His tone grew stiff when he called her name. "Are you, by any chance, visiting Darkhill with your boyfriend?"
Iris couldn’t avoid Gavriel’s question; she promptly confessed, "Yes, I’m with Xavier now—"
Before she could finish her sentence, the call abruptly ended.
Beep!
Iris found herself bewildered as she stared at her dark cell phone screen. ’What the heck, Senior Gavriel? How could you just hang up without saying a word?’
She placed her cell phone on the table and resumed eating her salad as if nothing had happened. However, inwardly, she became increasingly curious about what Gavriel wanted to give her. Why had he suddenly come all the way to her house just to deliver something?
...
Later,
Their quiet lunch finally came to an end.
Iris offered to do the dishes, but Xavier didn’t give her the opportunity, leaving her feeling frustrated. She couldn’t stand by and let him do everything while she did nothing.
"Just go to your room and rest," Xavier instructed sternly, leaving Iris with no room to argue about the cleaning.
"Alright, but tonight, don’t cook anything. Let’s dine out," she suggested. When she saw him nod in agreement, she turned to head to her room. However, she halted in her tracks and turned back to him. "Which way is my room?"
"It’s the last door on the right," he replied.
"Okay," she said, then proceeded to her room after grabbing her coat and bag from the sofa.
"I’ll be in my room later. If you need anything, just call me!" Xavier shouted before Iris closed her bedroom door.
After ensuring that Iris settled in her bedroom, Xavier raised his hand, his fingers gracefully dancing through the air as if painting on an invisible canvas. And the magic happened: in the blink of an eye, all the dishes and mess on the kitchen and dining table vanished. The room transformed into a pristine state, with no trace that the room had been used.
With a final glance to confirm everything was in order, he casually made his way to his room and disappeared. He had to teach someone in Silenthill.
***
Iris had no idea of what was happening outside, and she remained unaware that Xavier had already teleported to another city, leaving her alone in the house.
Standing by the glass window, she found herself captivated by the sight of the ocean. The vast expanse of the blue sea stretched as far as her eyes could discern.
"What a stunning beach," she mused to herself. It felt as if she owned this vast blue ocean as she couldn’t see anyone else on the empty beach.
An urge rose inside her. She was tempted to dive into the sea. However, remembering the cold air outside made her reluctant.
Iris took a deep breath, realizing she had come to fully enjoy this beauty at the wrong time. For now, she could only appreciate it with her eyes.
"It would be awesome to return here during summer," she murmured to herself as she placed her belongings on the sofa. It was then that her gaze landed on the lovely bedroom.
The room was decorated with feminine touches: floral-patterned bedding, several flower paintings gracing the pure white walls, and fresh flowers on the bedside table and coffee table in the corner. She recognized the flowers; they came from the backyard garden.
"Did Xavier arrange all of this?" It was hard for her to believe that a typically cold man like him had set up this place. "There’s no way he did it. It must be someone else who owns this place, right?"
She smiled faintly while approaching the wardrobe near the bathroom. She was astonished to find neatly arranged clothes with various styles inside.
What caught her attention the most was that the clothes were her size and all in her favorite colors: black and gray. There was one exception, white. However, when she checked the folded clothes, she was surprised to see a beautiful nightgown identical to the one she had at her house.
"Did Grandma pack these for me?" Iris rechecked the clothes, but they were all new items, not her belongings. "Why would he buy these clothes just for me?" She shook her head, intending to close the wardrobe, but her gaze landed on a drawer.
When she opened it, her eyes widened in shock, and her face gradually flushed as she found several bikini and underwear sets in there.
