Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 77: One Night Trip

Chapter 77: One Night Trip

Xavier shook his head, smiling faintly as he observed how flustered Iris had become. "Relax! I wouldn’t take you on a sudden trip without getting permission from Grandma Gray," Xavier replied calmly. However, his words seemed to confuse Iris even more.

He continued to explain, "Actually, this trip was your grandmother’s idea. She asked me to take you on a holiday. She mentioned that you haven’t traveled in the past year. How could I refuse her suggestion?"

Iris felt like her jaw had dropped upon hearing that.

’Grandma! How could you betray your own kin? Why are you so eager to keep us together?’ Iris couldn’t help but question her grandma’s recent effort. How shameless!

After taking a deep breath, Iris once again looked at Xavier, her gaze now sharp and intense. "Xavier, thank you for fulfilling Grandma’s wish. But you should have told me beforehand so I could be prepared." She paused when he glanced at her, "We will stay one night at Darkhill, but I didn’t bring anything..."

"You don’t have to worry about that, Iris. I’ve already prepared everything." A mysterious smile appeared on the corner of his lips before he continued, "Why do you look annoyed? You should be happy because now you have time with me, right?" He tried to lighten her mood. He could see how annoyed she was.

Iris can’t hold it anymore. She has to remind him about their relationship.

"Looks like you’ve already forgotten about our deal. This is only a fake relationship, Xavier!" She said barely audibly, but for Xavier, it felt like a bolt of lightning striking his ears. His pale face gradually darkened. For some unknown reason, he didn’t like hearing her statement.

Not hearing his response, Iris turned to look at Xavier, only to be shocked by the sudden chill in his expression.

’Why does he seem so distant again?’ She furrowed her brow, deciding that further conversation was futile. She understood his attitude well enough, and his icy demeanor left no room for dialogue.

Iris suspected Xavier was offended by his previous comments, particularly those concerning their fake relationship. She couldn’t understand why he’d be upset.

She turned her gaze outside the window, trying to enjoy the snowy scenery outside. However, she couldn’t enjoy it at all because her mind was filled with the man beside her.

Before long, she glanced at him, "Xavier, would you mind if I get some sleep?"

"Hmm, go ahead and rest," he responded, his gaze still fixed on the road ahead.

"Thank you," Iris said, adjusting her seat and closing her eyes.

When Iris finally opened her eyes, she was utterly stunned by her new surroundings.

Coming from the snow-covered town, Silenthill is replaced by a white sandy beach with blue waves crashing against the sandy beach. Green trees framed the beautiful view, giving it the impression of a tropical paradise rather than the winter town she had expected.

’Where are we? Why is this place nothing like Darkhill?’ she pondered, scanning her surroundings for clues. However, her unfamiliarity with the beach left her perplexed. She had never visited this location before, and it seemed unlike any part of Darkhill she had ever seen.

Iris checked her watch, realizing that only three hours had passed since they left Silenthill. This implied they were indeed in Darkhill, but the question remained: which part of it?

Her memories of Darkhill were limited, as her visits to the city had been infrequent, mainly for shopping or attending concerts. She had never explored its scenic spots.

Feeling bewildered, she swiftly turned her attention to Xavier, but her shock deepened when she discovered he was nowhere to be found.

"Where is he?" Iris muttered, her gaze shifting to a white building near where the car parked.

Oddly, it appeared to be the only structure in the area; no other buildings were near the beach, and their car seemed to be the sole vehicle in the area.

’Could Xavier be in that house?’ Iris wondered, her thoughts turning to her cell phone. She retrieved it from her pocket coat and dialed Xavier’s number.

"Hello? Where are you?" she asked as soon as he answered the call.

"You’re awake," came Xavier’s calm voice from the other end. "Hold on, I’ll come to you."

Beep!

Iris stared at her phone screen in confusion at the abrupt end of the call.

Before long, Iris spotted Xavier emerging from the white building. In a hurry, Iris retrieved her backpack and exited the car.

She was surprised by the temperature. Even though the sunlight was bright, the air still felt cool. However, the temperature is much warmer than the cold temperatures in Silenthill. She likes it.

"Xavier, where are we?" Iris asked as he stopped beside her.

Observing Iris’ confusion, he explains. "We are in Darkhill, specifically in the southern part. The temperature here differs from the northern side, which resembles our city."

"No wonder there’s no snow here," Iris mumbled softly.

She took a deep breath of fresh air, her gaze filled with delight as she admired the vast blue sea. The soothing sound of the waves crashing on the rocks made her recall precious memories of her past life, a sense of familiarity that had long been forgotten.

Observing her genuine and sincere smile, Xavier felt a sense of satisfaction washing over him. During their trip here, he had harbored an inexplicable annoyance, but her radiant smile erased any trace of his irritation.

"Do you like this place, Iris?" Xavier asked, prompting her to look at him.

"Yes, it reminds me of my home—" Iris’ voice trailed off as she realized she was referring to her past life. She looked away from him and looked back at the sea.

Xavier understood her unspoken feelings and refrained from asking any further questions.

’It seems you come from a region without snow, Iris Grey,’ Xavier mused to himself.

"All right, let’s head inside... I’m guessing you’re hungry by now, right?"

Iris nodded in agreement.
