Chapter 75: Teaching Ruby A Lesson
Chapter 75: Teaching Ruby A Lesson
Instantly, Iris’s steps halted when she heard a familiar voice coming from the corner. With a faint smile on her lips, she glanced over and saw Ruby Winters staring back at her with hatred in her eyes.
’What a nice timing, Ruby!’ Iris vented her frustration inwardly as she continued walking toward the counter, completely ignoring Ruby. She didn’t have time to entertain this silly little girl. With Xavier waiting for her outside, she didn’t want to put him in a lousy mood by wasting time here.
However, Ruby didn’t seem happy when she saw Iris Gray ignoring her. She stomped her feet and walked toward Iris with two of her best friends trailing behind her.
"Iris Gray, how dare you ignore me?" Ruby said casually, but her tone conveyed her offense at Iris’s behavior.
"Since when did you develop such audacity, Iris Gray?" Ruby continued to press her, growing impatient with Iris’s silence. She had positioned herself right in Iris’s path, forcing her to halt before reaching Daisy, who looked increasingly worried behind the counter.
Iris offered a faint smile to Daisy, trying to ease her worry with a reassuring expression. Then, she shifted her gaze toward Ruby, who stared at her as though she could cast a curse with her eyes alone.
She didn’t rush to respond to Ruby’s confrontation. Instead, she attempted to probe Ruby’s thoughts, along with the two friends standing by her side. They resembled bodyguards more than anything.
"What do you want, Ruby?" Iris finally asked, her tone cold, reflecting the coldness that covered her expression.
Ruby was taken aback by the shift in Iris’s demeanor. It was unusual for Iris to muster the courage to respond to her in such a manner and return her piercing gaze.
’What a foolish girl,’ Ruby silently chastised Iris.
She held a strong disdain for Iris, finding her endlessly irritating. Even more so now, as she had Xavier as her lover and the protection of the Darkwood family, which only fueled Ruby’s frustration.
"What do I want?" Ruby sneered, leaning in closer to Iris and hissing, "Stop pretending that Xavier actually cares about you, you bitch! You ought to realize that Xavier is merely playing a game with you. Snap out of it! Disappear before him, or I’ll ensure your Grandma’s Cafe is shut down for good!" she spat out, her tone cold and venomous.
Having unleashed her anger on Iris, Ruby slowly withdrew her face with a wickedly satisfied grin. She had anticipated seeing the familiar look of fear that Iris typically wore after she’d issued her threats. However, her triumphant smile gradually faded when she observed Iris’s expression.
Ruby found herself bewildered by Iris’s unusual composure. Even her eyes seemed to hold a mocking glint, which perplexed Ruby.
’Why wasn’t Iris intimidated as she usually was?’
Frowning, Ruby attempted to intimidate Iris once more, but the effect was quite the opposite. Instead of instilling fear in Iris, Ruby felt a sudden wave of dread creeping up within her. Her heart began to beat erratically, and a profound, unfamiliar fear took hold of her mind.
’What’s happening? Why...’ Ruby struggled to regain her composure, but her best friend’s scolding of Iris only added to her mounting unease.
"You slut!! Stop acting like you’re the prettiest girl in our class!!" the girl on Ruby’s right side scolded Iris.
"Yeah, you’re such a drama queen. Xavier is just playing with you. He’ll never fall in love with someone like you who flirts with other guys!" the other girl chimed in.
"That’s right. Iris flirts with so many men. I saw her a few days ago getting into a car with another guy."
"Hahaha, yes... I even have a photo of them on a date in Darkhill City. I’ll upload it on campus—"
"ENOUGH, BOTH OF YOU!!!" Ruby suddenly shouted at her best friends, scolding them. Her narrowed eyes bore into both of them. Within moments, her hand shot out, delivering slaps to the two friends who had just humiliated Iris.
"R-Ruby... W-Why did you slap me?"
"Why are you hitting me? You should slap Iris!"
"YOU BITCH!! SHUT UP, OR YOU’LL REGRET EVER KNOWING ME!" Ruby snapped. She then turned to Iris with an apologetic expression, and knelt before her, pleading, "Iris, please, please forgive us..."
Still struggling to grasp why Ruby had suddenly slapped them, the two girls were even more taken aback as they watched Ruby kneel before Iris. They could hardly believe their eyes; a proud, wealthy young lady like Ruby Winters was lowering herself before Iris Gray.
"R-Ruby... What’s come over you? Why—" the two girls stammered, their voices trembling with disbelief.
Ruby turned her gaze toward her friends and compelled them to kneel before Iris.
"If you two don’t kneel and apologize to her, I’ll never be your friend again! And I’ll ensure you both suffer..." She threatens them.
Tud!
Suddenly, the two girls followed Ruby’s lead, sinking to their knees and begging for Iris’s forgiveness.
Daisy, who was really worried about Iris because of Ruby Winters’ provocation, a wealthy and arrogant girl, found herself utterly baffled by the unfolding turn of events.
’Why is Ruby suddenly apologizing to Iris? And why is Iris not reacting?’ Daisy wondered in a state of shock, her gaze fixed on Ruby, who knelt before Iris. ’What on earth is happening here?’
Just as Daisy was about to approach Iris, who remained in her spot, her steps halted as she saw Iris walking toward the counter, seemingly unaffected by the scene with Ruby and the two girls who were still sobbing on the floor.
"Sister Daisy, can I retrieve my things?"
It took Daisy a few moments to compose herself before answering Iris. "Y-Yes..." her voice sounds shaking. "Just a moment, I’ll get them for you." She hurriedly headed behind the counter, disappearing through the door.
Iris paid no mind to the three girls still on the floor; she promptly received a brown shopping bag from Daisy and bid her farewell before leaving the shop.
