Chapter 74: Unexpected Encounter
Chapter 74: Unexpected Encounter
A week later.
Iris started to adjust to her new life in Silenthill, living with her new identity as young Iris Gray. She grew closer to her grandmother, and all doubts her grandmother had about her were now gone. She also completed her first exam and could feel her body becoming much stronger. Thanks to her daily workouts at Xavier’s gym.
During the past week, Iris had spent most of her time at Xavier’s house rather than her own. She would arrive there early in the morning and return to her house only before midnight.
However, she planned to skip going to Xavier’s house today because they were officially on winter break. She wanted to take a day off from training and visit Daisy’s shop since she had received a call from Daisy, informing her that the stuff she ordered online from another country a week ago had arrived yesterday.
As Iris finished getting ready, she heard her grandma calling her from the first floor. She immediately went downstairs and was surprised to see Xavier casually talking to her grandma in the living room.
With slow steps, he approached them.
"Hi, Xavier... You came," she greeted him casually, even though she felt puzzled. She remembered telling him last night that she wouldn’t go to his house today, she wanted to stay home. So, why had he come?
Before Xavier could answer Iris, Cassandra said, "My dear, are you going with Xavier?" She asked while smiling happily at Iris. Then she called Iris to sit beside her before continuing, "Go, have fun... You guys have worked hard studying."
Iris was speechless. She glanced at Xavier, wanting to ask his opinion, but the man seemed to ignore her. With a weak voice, Iris could only say, "Yes, Grandma, we will go have fun!" She grinned.
"Good, good... alright, Grandma will return to the cafe. So many customers today. Maybe because this is the holiday season, so many people hang out in this place," Cassandra said, leaving them in a hurry.
After seeing her grandmother disappear behind the door, Iris narrowed her eyes at Xavier in front of her. Once again, she tried to read his mood, but still, she failed.
"Why did you come? I already told you I will just stay at home today..." Iris’s voice trailed off when she realized she was now fully dressed and ready to go out.
’Gosh! I can’t hide from him...’ She faintly sighed while maintaining her casual expression and avoiding eye contact with him.
"You seem to be going out? Let me drive you today," Xavier said softly, completely ignoring her question.
She had no other choice but to agree with him. However, she didn’t want this man to know what she had ordered at Daisy Shop. She was worried he would become suspicious if he found out she had ordered various items for disguises. It looks like she needs to find a way to stop him from following her inside Daisy Shop.
Iris only disclosed their destination after their car had left Gray Cafe.
"The business district?" Xavier quickly glanced at her. "Which place are you heading to?" he continued, then turned his gaze back to the street.
"I’m not entirely sure if you’re familiar with this place, but it’s a women’s clothing shop called Daisy Shop. I ordered a few clothes from them a few days ago, and it just so happens that the clothes have arrived today," Iris explained.
Xavier nodded slightly. He had heard from Justin that this girl used to love shopping, but that was her old self. Now, her fashion taste has seemingly changed, yet she still came to this area to shop. Curiosity crossed his mind, but he restrained himself from asking anything.
"You don’t have to come inside with me, Xavier. You can wait for me in the car. I won’t be long..."
"Okay. I’ll wait."
...
Soon, their car arrived at the business district, and Iris guided him to Daisy Shop. Before long, their vehicle was parked in front of the shop.
"Iris, I’d like to take you somewhere after you’re finished here. I hope you don’t mind?" Xavier’s words suddenly made Iris pause as she was about to open the car door. She turned to meet his eyes with a curious gaze. "Where to?" she asked.
Xavier didn’t rush to answer her. He removed his seat belt and shifted his body towards Iris, causing her to freeze as she saw his face getting closer to hers.
She restrained herself from moving, let alone breathing. But looking straight into his golden yellow eyes might have given her a sudden heart attack. She sighed deeply while turning her gaze away from him.
"Secret," Xavier said cheerfully. A mischievous smile appeared at the corner of Xavier’s lips when he saw the girl’s cheeks turn red. "Go on, hurry up... get your things," he said while gently ruffling her hair.
Iris was snapped out of his charm. She opened the car door and quickly got out. Without turning back, she hurriedly entered Daisy Shop, trying to calm her racing heart.
’What the hell, Xavier Darkwood!’ She scolded Xavier in her heart, feeling annoyed because lately, that man always made physical contact with her, and what he did swayed her heart and mind entirely despite her efforts to bury all the foreign feelings she felt at that moment.
Iris couldn’t deny her feelings if she started to like Xavier Darkwood. Still, she wasn’t planning to change their fake relationship at the moment.
Her goal remained crystal clear: to carry out a mission from GH and live peacefully in this small town while waiting for her missing memories to return. She needed to uncover the secrets that were now tormenting her mind.
...
"Wow! Look who’s come to this place..." A mocking voice echoed in the room. "...Iris Sluth Gray!"
Instantly, Iris’s steps halted when she heard a familiar voice coming from the corner. With a faint smile, she glanced over and saw Ruby Winters staring back at her with hatred in her eyes.
