Chapter 72: Grandma Suspicious

Chapter 72: Grandma Suspicious

"Hi, Iris..."

Hearing Xavier’s gentle voice on the other end melted her heart and forgot what she was about to ask him.

"X-Xavier," Iris greeted him, feeling shy as if Xavier were standing right before her. "Did something happen? Why are you calling me—" She pressed her lips while slapping her forehead. Regret after uttering those words.

A long silence hung in the air, making her blame herself even more for asking him that way.

After a few more seconds, she finally heard Xavier’s gentle voice once more, "...Iris, I just remembered that you were looking for a gym in town, right?"

"Hmm, I want to train myself, but the gym in town seems quite far from my house. That’s why I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll go there or just stay at home." Iris explained.

She had checked the distance, and it would take her about 30 minutes to drive there. It would be tiring to drive for an hour to go to the gym every day. She preferred to train in the woods behind her house, but she couldn’t do that now because her Grandma would be stressed knowing she went there after her accident a week ago.

Actually, behind her house, there was a warehouse where several items left by her father were stored. She had plans to get her grandmother’s permission to turn the place into a private gym, but if she proposed the idea now, her grandmother would be even more shocked by her change, right!?

She refrained from doing it and would only consider it after a few more months.

"I have a gym at my home, and if you want, you can use it..." Xavier offered.

"R-really?" Iris was surprised to hear that. "So, I can train there?" She asked. It was clear she was thrilled to hear Xavier’s offer. Now, she didn’t have to worry about getting stronger quickly and could start training her weak body there.

"Yes. It’s only a 5-minute drive from your place. Besides, we can go to our campus after you train here..." he said.

Iris agreed with his idea. "Thank you, Xavier. I’ll start tomorrow. Can I leave a few things at your house if you don’t mind?"

"Yes," Xavier said firmly. "So, tomorrow... I won’t pick you up. You can drive here yourself, right?"

"Hmm, yeah. No need to pick me up; I’ll drive to your place," Iris said while smiling widely. This was the first time she felt that having a boyfriend seemed quite fun, even though this man was only her fake boyfriend.

"Alright. I’ll hang up now. You should go to sleep, Iris... It’s almost midnight."

The following day, Iris rushed to the first floor to stop her Grandma from preparing breakfast for her. But it was too late; she could see a few dishes already served on the table.

She placed all her stuff on the chair beside her and sat, starting to eat.

"Iris, why don’t you want Grandma to prepare your breakfast?" Cassandra asked in confusion. "And why did you bring those big bags?" She glanced at the travel bag on the chair.

"Grandma, I am gaining so much weight now. I will just eat fruit in the morning." She casually said. "...this is my stuff and books. I will place them in my car," she explained before taking a bite of her sandwich.

"Oh, you’re right, I forgot to ask you. So, the black car in the parking lot is yours?" Cassandra had seen the car yesterday but had forgotten to ask Iris.

"Yes, that’s the used car I told Grandma about a few days ago. My friend didn’t like the car, so he sold it to me at a lower price."

"I see. Are you still short on money? Let Grandma send you a few hundred so you can—" Cassandra stopped her sentence when she saw Iris shake her head, signaling her to stop.

"No... no need, Grandma. And, from now on, you don’t have to transfer my monthly allowance," Iris said. She couldn’t bear to take her grandmother’s money anymore.

Knowing that her Grandma didn’t have much money in her savings made her heart ache, remembering how badly her younger self had treated her grandmother in the past, using her like a cash cow.

...

Cassandra put cutlery on her hand on the table as she stared intently at Iris. She felt something strange about her granddaughter since she woke from her coma. She had changed a lot, making her suspect that this girl might not be her granddaughter but someone else.

"Oh, my dear Iris, do you want me to stop your monthly allowance!? Then how are you going to buy your needs?" Cassandra asked again just to confirm that she hadn’t heard wrong.

Iris silently swallowed as she felt her Grandma’s emotions at this moment, doubting her.

"Grandma, I know I’ve always troubled you with money... but I did that to build my online business. I’m sorry," she apologized. "However, everything started to change a few weeks before the accident. By then, my business began to grow and make money. Even when I was comatose, my business continued to generate income for me. It’s like passive income." Iris couldn’t help but lie to her Grandma.

Cassandra was stunned hearing her words. ’So, she didn’t spend money on useless things?’ she wondered.

"When I wanted to tell you about this, I had an accident and couldn’t explain it to you. So, Grandma, from now on, I promise you I will try my best to help you and not make you worry about money again," she said sincerely.

"Oh, Iris... I’m sorry if Grandma doubted you because all this time, you spent money like we could print money..." Cassandra chuckled.

Iris laughs. "Hahaha, I know. That’s because I invested so much to create a website and sell things."

"Hahaha, that’s good, dear. At least now you’re using your money in a good way." Cassandra felt proud of her granddaughter.

"Thank you, Grandma," Iris said, feeling relieved.

"If you don’t mind, can Grandma know what kind of business you’re doing?" She asked curiously.

"Okay, Grandma, I’ll send you my website link." Iris smiled. She was relieved she had foreseen this and set up a fake website if her grandmother asked.
