Chapter 68: Don’t Lie To Me Iris!

"Milord, that individual..." Niles inquired while standing beside Xavier, who continued to gaze in the direction of the white car as it gradually disappeared from view. "Who is he!?"

"Lord Xavier, why did you allow Iris to leave with another man?" Justin was also quite curious to find out. He observed Xavier, who appeared outwardly calm, but his aura had a palpable intensity. This was Justin’s first time to sense such anger from him in years.

Xavier didn’t bother to respond to their questions. He simply glanced at Niles and said, "Let’s go home," before making his way to their car.

Justin and Niles didn’t say anything more; they followed Xavier into the car. However, just before the car started moving, Xavier suddenly vanished without a word.

"Huh!? Why did Lord Xavier disappear like that? Is he following Iris and that man?" Justin looked around and only saw Xavier’s bag on the back seat.

Niles, who was behind the wheel, glanced at the rearview mirror with a furrowed brow. "That man... he’s not like us, but he’s not an ordinary human either. He’s immortal."

Justin nodded in agreement. "I sensed it, too. But why would an immortal appear in this place? And why does he seem to know Iris?" he asked, though he knew Niles likely didn’t have the answers either.

While in the car, Iris stared at Gavriel, who appeared to be driving but wasn’t actually focused on the road; the car moved swiftly on autopilot, and this man was now staring at her.

Iris was left speechless, taken aback by the intensity of Gavriel’s gaze, which seemed like he was trying to dissect her thoughts.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked, feeling uncomfortable. Gavriel didn’t immediately respond; instead, he continued to fixate on her in silence.

"Focus on driving properly, Gavriel. I don’t want to experience death again after my rebirth!" She quipped while shaking her head and diverting her gaze. Ignoring him.

"Is that man really your boyfriend?" Gavriel finally inquired, still struggling to believe that Iris was dating Xavier Darkwood.

How could a vampire be falling in love with this human girl? Even though Iris was beautiful, she had only recently reborn the body of young Iris Gray. It seemed impossible that she could develop feelings for Xavier so quickly.

"Don’t try to deceive me, Iris Gray!" Gavriel added.

Iris shifted her gaze back to Gavriel, feeling perplexed. Why was he asking? Shouldn’t he be able to read her thoughts?

She recalled their first encounter when he seemed capable of hearing her inner thoughts, but now? Has something changed about her since she acquired the ability of a ’Mind Controller’?

She was puzzled.

"Why would I lie to you?" Iris replied, looking straight into his eyes, trying to test him.

Gavriel directed his curious gaze at her, despising the uncertainty he felt. He couldn’t access her memories, nor could he read her thoughts. He could only communicate with her telepathically if she permitted it. Yet, the sincerity in her eyes left him no choice but to believe her.

"So, you really dated him!?" he asked once more.

"Yeah! Why do you ask? You sound like you didn’t believe me at all, Gavriel," Iris replied, shifting her gaze to the road ahead. She tries to hide her happiness, knowing that Gavriel can’t access her thoughts anymore.

"Of course, I can’t believe you, especially considering you were only reborn a few days ago," Gavriel remarked. "How could you fall in love with him that fast?"

She chuckled before continuing, "This is your mistake as my mentor. You should know that this young Iris Gray had been pursuing Xavier Darkwood for almost a year. It just so happened that he accepted her feelings after I was reborn into her body—" Iris stopped speaking when she heard Gavriel’s booming laughter echo in the car.

"Hahaha... I knew it! It’s impossible for you to fall in love so fast with him," Gavriel said between his laughter.

Iris was speechless. She didn’t expect Gavriel to laugh like that. She had always seen him with a firm demeanor and a sharp tongue.

...

"What do you want to ask me?" Gavriel asked after a few minutes of silence. Iris remained silent, staring at the passing streets.

Iris sat up straight remembering what was bothering her.

"This is regarding my first assignment," she began, her gaze locked on Gavriel. "Something is not right. I vividly remember shooting that man in the temple with my bullet. However, when I read the news this morning, the police report stated that he died of natural causes..."

She added, "Did the person who collected my target soul clear the evidence for me?"

Gavriel was taken aback by her question. No such privilege was granted to her unless she had used a magic bullet or had received assistance from Lucian to erase her traces.

"Where did you obtain your gun?" Gavriel asked, starting to piece together what might have happened.

"I bought it from a friend," Iris replied. "Why are you so interested in my gun?" she inquired.

"May I see your gun?"

Iris nodded, retrieved her gun from her bag, and handed it to him for inspection. Gavriel was surprised to find that it was a standard firearm commonly used by humans.

’It’s not her gun. It appeared that Lucian had been quite generous to the young lady, erasing the evidence to allow her first target to die naturally.’ He wonders.

Gavriel returned the gun to her, but before she could take it, something crossed his mind.

’The bullet! It must be the bullet!’ Gavriel quickly checked the bullet and was shocked to discover an ancient magical bullet.

"How did you get this bullet, Iris?"

"Of course... I bought it with the gun." Iris responded, growing increasingly baffled by Gavriel’s questions. "Gavriel, GH should provide me with a gun or any tools I might need," She began to voice her frustration.

"You know, I’m just a teenager. How was I supposed to buy a gun in this small town? If my friend hadn’t offered that gun to me, I would have been in trouble, trying to kill my first target with my bare hands. This body is frail!" She continued, hoping Gavriel would tell higher-ups to give her equipment for her upcoming assignments.
