Chapter 62: Mood Swing

"Milord, I apologize," Selina said as she observed him drinking straight from the bottle. She turned to the kitchen to retrieve a wine glass, but Xavier’s voice stopped her before she could take more than a few steps.

"No need to trouble yourself, Selina!" Xavier’s voice rang out, halting her in her tracks. She resumed her place, standing and waiting for his further instructions.

After consuming two bottles of beast blood in a short time, Xavier’s eyes gradually returned to their normal golden color, and the trace of crimson faded. His face also returned to its usual state, no longer dark but slightly pale and radiant.

Xavier placed the last empty bottle on the table as he glanced at Selina, who stood near the door.

"Can you maintain control over all the beasts?" he asked.

"Yes, Milord. I can control them all; they remain obedient even in this harsh winter..." Selina explained.

"Very well! If you need assistance, tell Justin. He will arrange for someone to help you here," Xavier said as he rose from his seat, ready to return to the main house to meet Iris — he was no longer thirsty. He could once again be near her as usual.

"Milord, regarding my—" Selina’s sentence was cut off as Xavier interrupted her.

"Refrain from entering the house until I give the word," Xavier halted his step and then turned to face her. He could sense disappointment emanating from her eyes.

"Milord, there’s something I need to ask," Selina began, observing his nod before continuing. "...is what Justin said true? About the girl?" She couldn’t help but voice her curiosity, still finding it hard to believe what Justin had shared with her the previous day.

Xavier’s brows furrowed. "What did he tell you?" he inquired.

"Is it true... That your future bride is human?" Selina asked cautiously, treading carefully to avoid upsetting him. With bated breath, she awaited his response.

Selina’s words hit Xavier like a sudden blow, nearly choking him. Hearing the words ’Future Bride’ stunned him, a foreign notion that Iris Gray might be his bride.

Could it truly be?

She possesses warm blood while he? Cold.

It seemed an impossible union.

However, he found himself unable to voice his doubt. Instead, he replied with a seriousness that matched his firm tone, "Yes, it’s true!"

Without sparing Selina a glance, he disappeared from the room. At the same time, a storm of emotion welled up within Selina, turning her serene expression into darkness as if a towering cloud had cast a shadow over her.

As Xavier returned to the main house, the voice of Justin talking to Iris reached his ears. His expression once again darkened, irritated by the tone of their discussion — it seemed like Justin was deliberately provoking Iris.

Stepping swiftly, Xavier entered the living room, his gaze sharp as it locked onto Justin. Though his expression appeared composed, his aura was so sharp that it seemed to be able to cut the air around him, causing Justin to jolt in his seat.

Justin inwardly cursed himself for not sensing him earlier, his awkward smile an attempt to mask his surprise as he greeted him.

"X-Xavier, you’ve returned. Iris has been looking for you. She appears rather in a bad mood right now; it seems she wasn’t content being left alone," Justin stammered, his words hurried as he edged toward the room’s exit, clearly perceiving Xavier’s growing anger.

Iris, "..."

Narrowing her eyes, Iris attempted to manipulate Justin’s emotions to exact her revenge. However, she faltered when she couldn’t sense his feelings, much like with Xavier.

’Why do both of them possess a more powerful mental mind than I do?’ Iris wondered inwardly, curiosity stirring within her.

"Justin, prepare a car. We’ll be leaving in ten minutes!" Xavier’s commanding voice cut through the tension, causing Justin to halt abruptly. He nodded in acknowledgment before swiftly heading down to the basement.

After giving Justin his orders, Xavier settled himself across from Iris. His smile held a warmth as he addressed her, "I apologize for keeping you waiting, Iris. There were matters I needed to attend to upstairs..." The gentleness in his voice caught Iris off guard. The change in his attitude confused her.

’Why does he appear so gentle now? Where is mister Xavier Grumpy Darkwood from earlier?’ Iris found herself puzzled by the rapid shift in his mood.

"It’s alright," Iris responded, returning his smile. "Justin is here to keep me company. Well, he is quite entertaining..." she added wryly. Justin’s presence earlier left her with a headache; his accusation about her sleeping in this house bothered her quite a bit. Fearing that Justin might spread false rumors, she considered asking Xavier to warn or even scold him.

Iris chuckled inwardly, amused by the idea of seeking revenge on Justin through Xavier. However, just as she was about to voice her intentions, she overheard him say...

"Entertaining?" Xavier shook his head before correcting her, "Do you mean ’insult’?"

"Oh, you heard that?" Iris was taken aback by his keen hearing. She might not need to report the incident after all. She was now confident that Xavier would scold Justin, right?

"Hmm, I heard," Xavier said.

"Xavier, please warn him. I am afraid he will spread gossip about me sleeping in this house... with you," she said, feeling awkward at the idea of having slept with him.

Instead of agreeing with her, Xavier asked, "Should I?" while his brilliant golden eyes sharply gazed at her.

Iris avoided eye contact and spoke shyly, "Yes, you should! I don’t want Justin to think I slept here with you."

Xavier didn’t rush to respond. He waited for her to meet his gaze, and only then did he speak calmly and measuredly. "I figured, why bother correcting him? Everyone already knows that we’re dating." Xavier’s words were nonchalant, but they hit Iris like lightning bolts.

Iris attempted to speak but found herself unable to form a single word in response to his statement, leaving her feeling frustrated.

’Why does he sound so happy if everyone hears those rumors?’ This frustrated Iris.
