Chapter 61: Thirsty

"Do you want me to buckle up your seatbelt, Iris?" Xavier’s voice broke the silence.

Iris was taken aback, quickly reaching to fasten her seatbelt without a word.

Xavier started the car’s engine, and a heavy silence enveloped them. She felt an awkward tension, and the small space of the car only made things worse. In an attempt to avoid any awkward conversation, she closed her eyes and pretended to sleep.

As the car came to a stop, Iris opened her eyes in surprise to find that they had arrived at Xavier’s residence, Darkwood Villa, instead of their campuses.

Iris looked at him, confusion flashing through her eyes. "Why do we come to your house?"

"I left something behind. Besides, we still have plenty of time before class..." Xavier nonchalantly said then exited the car, not waiting for her response.

Iris sat there, rendered speechless by the sudden turn of events.

However, she snapped out when she heard a soft knock on the window. She looked up to see Xavier’s displeased expression when he opened the car door for her with an unfriendly-looking face.

"No need to say thank me, Iris!" Xavier’s curt words left her bewildered as he turned and walked away, leaving her stunned.

Iris felt a mixture of confusion and frustration bubbling within her as she saw Xavier enter the house without even sparing a glance back at her.

’What’s gotten into you, Mister Xavier Grumpy Darkwood? What’s with the sudden irate? Have I unwittingly offended you?’ Inwardly, Iris vented her frustration as she exited the car and made her way into the house.

Dealing with Xavier’s mood swings was starting to take its toll on her. Now, she feels that the idea of fake-dating him was a terrible decision.

Upon entering the living room, Xavier was nowhere to be found. Instead, Justin appeared from the back door. She gave Justin a weak smile before settling onto the sofa.

Justin had just arrived from his apartment in the neighboring city and was taken aback to find Iris alone in their empty living room.

’Huh!? Why did Iris arrive so early in the morning? And why is she here by herself?’ Justin wondered, casting his gaze around as he sought out his Lord Xavier. However, Xavier was nowhere to be seen, and he didn’t feel his presence either in this house.

Justin couldn’t help but smile as he walked over to join Iris in the seating area.

"Well, well, Iris Gray. Looks like you were sleeping over at our house...again..." he quipped, a playful smile tugging at the corner of his lips.

’Looks like Lord Xavier can’t hold back anymore. He’s bringing this lovely lady to spend the night with him every day. Damn, I envy him now!’ Justin thought, his smile turning inward as he regarded Iris with a playful gaze.

Justin’s envy was palpable; after all, his lord had found someone to share his bed, a luxury he also craved. But his resistance to human warmth wasn’t as steadfast as Xavier’s. He knew he might inadvertently harm a human girl with his insatiable thirst. It seemed he required more time, perhaps a few more centuries, to enjoy the luxury of having a human girlfriend.

Iris was speechless by Justin’s remark.

"Hold that thought, Justin. I did not sleep here last night, alright!!" Iris replied with an exasperated tone in her voice. She turned her attention to her cell phone, deliberately engrossing herself in whatever content she could find—ignoring him. However, her concentration wavered as Justin’s laughter echoed through the room.

Justin can’t hold his laughter, "Hahaha... Come on, Iris, no need to be shy. I know you too well. Your blush and those twinkling eyes can’t hide the truth from me."

Rolling her eyes, Iris couldn’t be bothered to engage in further conversation with him.

A few miles away from Darkwood Villa. As part of her morning routine, Selina was in the process of drawing blood from a beast in her backyard.

However, when Selina realized Xavier’s presence there, she gasped, shocked. She swiftly stood up straight and paid her respects, bowing to him. "My lord, what brought you here so unusually early?"

Xavier only nodded slightly at her without answering her question. He said, "Selina, bring me the strongest wine in your storage. And I want two bottles!" He hastily asked as he walked through the back door and sat on the couch by the crackling fireplace. His golden eyes, now slowly turning crimson, stared at the flames silently.

He awaited Selina’s return with the blood he sought while trying to calm his mind.

It was unusual for him to feel such an intense thirst. The sensation had started when he confronted Lucian and Gavriel the previous night. At the time, he thought he could control the urge and intended to satisfy it in a few days.

However, when he almost kissed Iris, an unexpected wave of thirst enveloped him. The scent of her blood almost made him lose control. He had fought hard to restrain himself from giving in to the alluring temptation of her blood scent.

Ultimately, he has no choice but to return to this place to drink and quench the desire fueled by Iris’ seductive blood essence.

"Milord, why do you find the need to drink again? Was the last batch of high-quality blood I sent insufficient to quench your thirst for long?" Selina asked, her confusion clear from her tone, remembering she had just sent him two bottles two days ago.

Xavier didn’t respond to Selina’s question; instead, he promptly uncapped one of the bottles and began to drink the blood directly.

"Milord, I apologize," Selina said as she observed him drinking straight from the bottle. She turned to the kitchen to retrieve a wine glass, but Xavier’s voice stopped her before she could move more than a few steps.
