Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 57: First Reward
Chapter 57: First Reward
"Tsk! You remain the same brooding soul I met the last time, my dear Xavier," Lucian couldn’t help but chuckle, observing that his old friend hadn’t undergone much change despite their prolonged separation. "And why have you chosen to hide yourself in this location?"
"Have you forgotten who we are? We are Immortals. And we are Immortals that are confined to this meek mortal realm. How can I be content in one place?" Xavier said.
"Ah, my apologies. What I mean is, given how many good locations you possess, why this pitiable town? Could it be that you’ve begun to recall—" Lucian’s words tapered off abruptly.
"Carry on with your thoughts, Lucian. But..." Xavier demanded with a resolute tone. "I have come to the conclusion that you are holding something from me. What are you withholding from me, my dear Lucian?"
A mischievous grin graced Lucian’s features as he remarked, "Curious, are you? Do you really want to know the answer? Then come to the Old Palace!" With that, he disappeared before Xavier could utter a word.
A frown appeared on Xavier’s face, and for a while, he seemed to be thinking about something deeply. Before long, he also vanished from that place.

Iris had finally completed her task: erasing her tracks and sending crucial information to the police. A sense of relief washed over her; her long, hectic, but enjoyable day ended.
With exams coming up, she put her studies aside, confident in her understanding of the material Justin was giving her — she already memorized all the materials.
What she really needs is a refreshing bath. Her body ached from her sprint through the forest, aching sensation from her calves to her thighs. A warm bath was necessary — to calm her entire body.
After luxuriating in the warm and aromatic bath for nearly an hour, a wave of drowsiness overcame her.
Nearly an hour of bathing revived her spirits, yet a profound sleepiness took hold. She wrapped herself in a plush towel and slipped into a pair of shorts and a tank top that could reveal her sexy curves. Enveloped in the soft cocoon of her blankets, she prepared to sleep.
However, just as her eyes were about to close, a thought woke her. The memory of her first reward for eliminating her initial target surged forward. Summoning her invisible, magic cell phone, she was astonished to spot a gift icon awaiting her attention.
"Yes! Finally, I received my first reward," She feels so excited that she no longer feels drowsy.
Iris wasted no time and promptly tapped the gift icon. She was met with two options, both requiring her choice.
"What the hell! Why am I forced to choose? Why not just give me both?" Iris vented her frustration with a voice filled with annoyance. Both rewards were incredibly tempting, and she desired them both intensely.
<You can select one of the following two rewards:>
<1. Mind Controller - Level 1>
<2. Teleport - Level 1>
For a full five minutes, Iris remained gazing at her cell phone. How could she possibly decide between two handy things? Both options held undeniable allure.
"Gosh!! I really need to know what defines the ’level 1’ is," Iris muttered aloud. Despite her attempt to seek an explanation for the two gifts, she found none.
Teleportation, obviously, was a dire need. It would empower her to traverse vast distances instantly and, more importantly, provide concealment in shadows during her missions. But mind control was equally alluring—a means to swiftly conclude her missions by manipulating others’ thoughts.
"Perhaps I should consult Gavriel," Iris pondered aloud.
Before long, the invisible phone disappeared from her grasp. She decided to postpone the decision until tomorrow, hoping a good night’s sleep would bring clarity to her mind.
"Seems like you require my assistance," Gavriel’s voice resonated instantly from a corner of the room near the window. The sound made Iris startle, causing her to leap out of bed. She gazed at the towering figure cast in the dimness, her heart racing at his presence.
"What is the fu—" Iris caught herself mid-curse, her recollection swiftly identifying him, her esteemed senior. "W-why have you appeared here all of a sudden, Senior Gavriel— I mean, Gavriel..." She stumbled over her words as she walked near the window, now standing a few steps from him.
"Didn’t you just mention my name before I appeared?" Gavriel answered, his gaze fixed on the expanse of starlight outside the window, seemingly unperturbed by her presence.
Iris scolded herself inwardly for forgetting that important thing—how to call him. She had to be careful when calling his name in the future, or else he would show up like he did just now.
Thankfully, she had called out to him now and not during one of her showers. Imagining this Zayn Malik look-alike, catching a glimpse of her naked form felt utterly mortifying.
’Naked—’ The realization struck Iris abruptly. She glanced down at her attire, her tank top and shorts seemingly revealing. ’What the hell! Shit... did he see me dressed like this?’
In a rush, she hurried to her wardrobe, snatching a long coat to shield herself.
"Well, just to let you know, I didn’t catch a glimpse of your clothes, Iris Gray. No need to worry..." Gavriel’s cheerful voice brushed against her, deepening her blush. As she tentatively approached him, she found his gaze directed at her—a surprise she had not anticipated.
"You’re sure you didn’t see?!" Iris queried, skepticism lingering in her tone. She fought against a wave of embarrassment, exposing her almost naked body to others, especially strangers like him.
Gavriel ignored the childish lady’s question, his gaze narrowing as he asked, "Why did you call me?"
"I’ve completed my first mission—"
But before Iris could finish her sentence, Gavriel interjected, his reaction reflecting his emotion, annoyed.
"Iris Gray, why did you go alone, ignoring your mentor? Do you know if something terrible happens to you, I will be punished?" Gavriel snapped with a mixture of concern and irritation as he delved into her memories, seeking to see the details of her first mission.
However, a gloom and deepening darkness gradually clouded Gavriel’s face as he attempted to access her memories. He sees nothing but hazy whiteness inside her mind. It’s a barrier!
A sense of bewilderment crept over him.
’What is this barrier? Who dares to seal her mind?’ Gavriel’s gaze locked onto Iris, his expression resembling a scientist determined to cleave open her skull to check her mind.
