Chapter 58: Someone In The Room!?
Chapter 58: Someone In The Room!?
A sense of bewilderment crept over him.
’What is this barrier? Who dares to seal her mind?’ Gavriel’s gaze locked onto Iris, his expression resembling a scientist determined to cleave open her skull to check her mind.
This was a new experience for him; he could hear her thoughts, but her memories remained veiled from his sight as if someone had placed a seal on her mind.
’No, there must be some mistake,’ Gavriel muttered to himself as he moved and appeared right in front of Iris. He took her hand and made another attempt to delve into her memories but encountered only darkness.
Just before Gavriel could make another try, an invisible force suddenly hurled him backward. In the blink of an eye, he was sent flying several meters away from Iris, only coming to a stop when his back slammed against the wall. His eyes remained fixed on Iris, filled with a mixture of shock and horror.
’W-Who are you? Show yourself!’ Gavriel’s mental shout reverberated, the urgency clear in his thoughts. He recognized someone else’s presence in the room, yet that person remained hidden, concealed from his sight.
Worried that someone might pose a threat to Iris, Gavriel straightened up and scanned the area. However, his search was fruitless, making him even more unsure.
’Am I wrong?’ Gavriel muttered, his mind tangled with uncertainty, though his vigilance remained unwavering. ’But who has the strength to toss me as if I were only a feather?’ he mused. No human, not even Iris, could bestow such power on him.
As Gavriel frantically surveyed the surroundings for any trace of the invisible assailant, a frigid voice suddenly echoed within his mind. ’Lay a finger on her again, and I shall throw your soul to the deepest abyss of hell!’
Instantly, Gavriel felt as though his heart had been clenched in an icy grip. ’By all the devils! Why does this familiar voice intrude upon this place?’ he wondered, his fear running deep.
’Your inner musings are an open book to me, no matter how covert you attempt to be,’ the cold voice resounded once more, slicing through Gavriel’s consciousness.
Gavriel swallowed his retort, acutely aware of the identity of the speaker. Even Lucian, his senior, harbored a dread of this figure. To provoke him would court a fate worse than damnation itself.
’S-Sir, I beg your pardon. But—’
’Spare me your utterances. Depart from her room before I truly rip your soul!’
’S-Sir, Milord, she summons my presence—’ Gavriel’s fingertips were instantly seized by an encroaching frost, the chill spreading from hand to palm, then enveloping his arms. In a whirlwind of sensations, his appendages metamorphosed into frozen sculptures. ’Cease, my lord, I shall...’
"I-Iris... A-An urgent matter requires my attention. Just text me if you need my help," Gavriel faltered, struggling to articulate his words. "Farewell!" Without affording Iris the chance to respond, he vanished from sight.
’What the hell is this? Why did he abruptly vanish?’ Iris shook her head, perplexed.
"Senior Gavriel, are you really left, seriously??" Iris said loudly, hoping Gavriel would hear her.
She hasn’t finished talking to him yet. Why did he suddenly leave?
Iris felt something was unsettling; why had Gavriel appeared so odd? He touched her hand, only to be hurled back against the wall later on! And his transformation into ice was utterly bewildering.
"Could he be unwell? Is that why he seemed so strange and departed abruptly?" Countless questions now fill Iris’ thoughts, yet answers remain elusive. She could merely draw deep breaths and seek solace beneath her blanket.
"Looks like I’ll have to put the rewards aside," she said while holding back a yawn. Soon, sleep overtook her, wrapped in the warmth of her blanket.

Xavier poised himself atop a grand rock in the shadowed expanse of a snowy forest not far from Iris’ house. At the same time, Gavriel stood at a respectful distance before him.
"Explain yourself! Why did you appear in her bedroom and lay hands upon her?" Xavier asked with nonchalance, though every uttered word seemed like a honed dagger cleaving Gavriel from head to heel.
Xavier’s presence caused a real tremor in Gavriel. "S-Sir, as I said, she summons me to come," He replied. His mind remained clouded by bewilderment regarding the unexpected appearance of the formidable Lord Xavier in Iris’ house. Why was Xavier radiating anger and concern for her? What lay here that he couldn’t see?
"It seems my warning went unheeded to you, Gavriel," Xavier replied impatiently, detecting the swirl of uncertainty in Gavriel’s soul. He slowly raised his hand and pointed at Gavriel. In an instant, Gavriel’s form metamorphosed into an ice-carved. Even though his senses were preserved, he still managed to speak, "Wait, let me explain, my lord..."
Gavriel interjected urgently as his once-warm heart turned frigid, "You must know about her true identity as a God Helper Intent, correct?" he asked.
However, Xavier didn’t utter a word to respond to him. Gavriel continued, "I was her mentor. Old Man White is the one who sent me to assist her during the initial missions. And, just a moment ago, she summoned my presence. However—" He fell silent, reluctant to voice his inability to enter Iris’ mind or access her memories.
Xavier stops freezing Gavriel’s heart. However, he didn’t say anything, but a thin line appeared on his forehead when he thought of something.
"Sir, if my words fail to convince you, you are free to read my memories," Gavriel offered solemnly.
Following an extended silence, Xavier eventually shifted his gaze toward Gavriel. His golden yellow eyes locked onto Gavriel’s. He said, "You may continue your previous task. However, don’t meet her in her room or make any physical contact with her."
Gavriel nodded, even though he was confused by Xavier’s statement.
"Furthermore," Xavier added, "my identity is not to be disclosed."
"Rest assured, Milord," Gavriel responded.
After hearing Gavriel’s assurance, Xavier disappeared from his position, leaving Gavriel to sink even further into confusion.
"It looks like I need to meet Old White," Gavriel muttered before disappearing.
