Chapter 37: More Convince The Girl Is Not Iris Gray

’This is what I hate the most, not being able to hear other people’s thoughts,’ Xavier spoke to himself, feeling displeased.

How annoying!

He sighed deeply, looking at Iris standing by the window motionless. But he could hear how many times she took deep sighs. He could sense that Iris also had a troubled mind, just like him.

’Is she upset because she can’t get weapons from X Bar?’ Xavier wondered.

Since last night, he had felt something strange about Iris’ behavior—suddenly wanting a weapon, even being willing to go to X Bar, risking her own life, and almost dying at the hands of that bad guy. This little girl would probably be dead by now if he hadn’t shown up.

Several times last night, he wanted to ask her about her intention to buy a gun. Still, he restrained himself from doing so, afraid that this girl would find out he had been stalking her. However, if he didn’t ask and help her, she might go back to X Bar again, right?

Xavier’s pale face slowly darkened, his annoyance growing. This was the first time he had ever felt so helpless in his entire existence in this world!

He felt conflicted.

He wanted to help her but feared this girl would become suspicious of him. He didn’t want anyone to know about his real identity and history at this moment either.

It would be troublesome if he had to move again. He wanted to stay in this small town for another two decades until he had to move to another location to avoid anyone recognizing him because he would look the same as he is now—possessing immortality.

And, since yesterday, he had a valid reason for staying in this place for so long because of this girl.

’Who are you, Iris Gray?’

This question never stopped haunting his mind. He was curious to know her true identity because he knew she was not the Iris Gray he had known before; she was an entirely different person, possessing something that no human should have.

’How could she have an invisible cell phone with that maniac Lucian’s face as the wallpaper?’

A strong desire resurfaced within him, a desire he had long abandoned.

’Is it worth going back there just because of this girl?’ Another question popped into his mind, further adding to his inner turmoil.

After giving the girl time to think, he finally approached her. He walked over casually and made a bit of noise so she wouldn’t be startled.

Iris turned her head and smiled as soon as she heard movement from behind.

"Xavier, you’re done?" She felt stunned when she saw him wearing his usual black outfit again. Somehow, she felt happy seeing him in a funeral-style outfit because she also liked that style.

’At least we have something in common, my fake boyfriend...’ Iris thought. ’What the heck, Iris!’ She quickly pushed aside that thought as she felt her heart beating faster, she could feel her face blushing.

"Yes, let’s go!" said Xavier. He walked towards the stairs after Iris walked toward him.

Soon, they arrived on the ground floor.

Iris was curious because she didn’t see anyone else there; it felt like only the two of them were in this huge house.

She glanced at Xavier before asking, "Where are the others? I mean Justin and Niles?" She knew they both lived in the same house with Xavier. "Are they still sleeping?" she continued when she didn’t get a reply from him.

"Probably." Xavier casually replies, knowing they both must be playing a game now in their apartment in the nearest city — they didn’t need sleep. Usually, they just pretend to sleep, to look normal.

Iris didn’t ask again, sensing Xavier’s return to his usual self, being reserved with his words and seemingly ignoring her. She quickly followed him out of the house.

There was the black SUV they had driven the previous night parked in front of the main door. Without waiting to be prompted, she swiftly opened the car door and got in, concerned that Xavier might think she was expecting him to open the door for her. She didn’t want to upset him, especially not this early morning.

"Sorry, Xavier..." Iris said as their car began to move, leaving the yard behind.

He glanced at her with a slight frown, "For what?"

"For making you drive me early in the morning," Iris said, genuinely apologetic for involving him in her lie. "And, for putting you in such an awkward situation. I mean our fake relationship."

"You don’t have to say that. I agreed to do it, not because you forced me to," he said casually, focusing on the road ahead, ignoring the girl and her sharp gaze at him.

"Well, thank you so much," she said softly, shifting her gaze to the empty street ahead.

The sky grew bright, and leafless trees covered in pure snow flanked the vast, empty road they drove along. Xavier was driving the car at a moderate speed. It allowed her to witness a beautiful forest covered in snow.

Their car moved toward the city, yet strangely, she only saw a few other vehicles on the road.

The distance from Xavier’s house to Gray Cafe wasn’t far, merely a 10-minute drive. However, for Iris, those 10 minutes felt like an eternity. The pressure was intense, making her uneasy as she sat beside Xavier in the tiny space of the car. It’s almost like sitting on hot coals.

Iris attempted to distract herself from the overwhelming presence beside her by pondering what might happen once they reached her house.

Before departing from Xavier’s house, she had already texted her grandmother to let her know about their arrival. She hoped that her grandmother wouldn’t go overboard in welcoming Xavier. After all, their relationship was merely an act, not a genuine one.

Seemingly, Iris wasn’t the only one feeling the uneasiness. Xavier also feels that way. His mind was distracted, curious about Iris’ true identity. After much thought, he decided to ask.

"Iris, may I ask you something?" Xavier asks, his gaze briefly flicking toward her.
