Chapter 36: First Mission

Iris couldn’t sleep at all.

She woke up multiple times during the night, feeling strange in someone else’s house.

The unsettling thought that someone might be watching her sleep lingered in her mind. However, she knew it was just her imagination, as she had checked the locked door several times. Still, the presence of the black door unsettled her, and she found herself falling asleep while holding a knife, just in case.

As dawn approached, Iris gave up on trying to sleep and decided to change her clothes. She spent her time reading through the documents that Justin had given her. The files were well-organized, containing all the subjects she needed to study. Grateful for the assistance, she quickly went through the material and mastered it.

In the files, she also found her class schedule for the current year and tried her best to memorize the information. Once she finished reviewing all the files, she heard a soft knock on the door.

Iris couldn’t help but let out a deep sigh when she looked at her watch. It was six in the morning, and he had already woken her up!

’Gosh, this man!!’

She quickly closed her laptop and placed it in her backpack. When she opened the door, she saw Xavier standing there, dressed casually.

"Morning," Xavier greeted, looking surprised to see Iris dressed in her own clothes and her backpack ready to go home. "Looks like you’re ready!?"

"Yes."

"Iris, may I make a suggestion?" he asked.

She nodded.

"You need to change your coat," Xavier pointed at her coat sleeve, which was torn by the knife, revealing her injured arm. "Your grandmother would be frightened if she saw that, right?" he said calmly.

She sighed silently, realizing she had almost made a mistake. Xavier was right; her grandmother would likely panic and take her to the hospital if she saw her injured arm.

’Should I call Daisy for a new coat?’ Iris wondered, thinking of the shop owner she had visited yesterday. However, seeing that it was still too early, she dismissed the thought.

Turning her gaze to Xavier. She saw his body was almost twice as big as hers, making her unsure if he had a small coat. Still, she asked, "Xavier, do you have a small coat I can borrow?"

"I think I have one," Xavier replied. "May I come in?" he asked politely to enter his bedroom. Iris immediately nodded and moved away from the door.

Standing by the door, she waited for Xavier to go through his wardrobe. Before long, he appeared again, holding a coat the same color she was wearing.

"You can wear this; I think it will fit you well, although it’s still a bit big," Xavier said.

Iris accepted the coat and was taken aback when she saw the label. It was a new coat from a famous brand. When she tried it on, she was surprised that it fit her perfectly.

"It fits perfectly, thank you," Iris said with a smile. "I’ll give it back later..."

"No need, you can keep it!" Xavier said while rubbing his nape. "I don’t use it because it’s too small, so it’s a waste if this coat returns to me."

Iris paused for a moment, unsure of what to say.

"Could you wait in the living room?" Xavier said, noticing her hesitation. "I need to change my clothes."

Iris nodded and walked over to the seating area. She sat down on the single sofa while checking her invisible cell phone. She was curious if her senior, Gavriel, had contacted her. However, to her surprise, she received a text, but it wasn’t from Gavriel.

Her calm face slowly tightened as she realized it was a notice for her first assignment as GH.

[Lucian: ] Iris Gray, this is your first assignment. Read this file attachment for your first mission.

’Lucian?’ This was the first time she had heard this name. Gavriel had never mentioned him before. ’Who is he?’

Iris checked the profile picture, and she was shocked. She saw a familiar face in that picture — the same face as her cell phone wallpaper, that handsome dark angel.

’So his name is Lucian? He’s my boss?’ she muttered while looking at the attachment.

For a moment, Iris just stared at the file. A feeling of worry rose within her, afraid to know her first target. She hoped her target was not stronger than her because, at this moment, she didn’t have any weapons to fight, and her body was still weak. She needed time to return to her former form.

’Gosh! If only GH gave me a gun, I wouldn’t have to worry like this,’ she lamented her frustration inwardly.

After taking a few moments, she finally clicked on the file. Soon, detailed information appeared about her first target, and she read quietly. However, when she read the name written on the paper and saw the photo of her target, her heart nearly stopped.

’What the hell! Why is this man my target?’

Once again, she read the target’s name and looked at the photo. All the data remained the same.

Iris quickly closed the file and kept her phone out of sight. Her mind was clouded, too shocked to realize that the man who had lectured her first class in this life was actually her target.

She stood from the sofa and walked towards the large French window in the corner. She stood there, her gaze fixed on the expanse of the snow-covered forest outside. It looked beautiful, but Iris couldn’t enjoy it at all. Her mind was filled with her target.

’How could Mr. Alberto, who looks friendly and innocent, have committed such a terrible crime?’

Her blood rippled at the thought that this man was actually a p*d*phile; he took in several orphans from other countries and raised them to be his sex partners. He had been doing that for years, and no one knew his crime because he lived in this remote place. She would never have suspected him if she hadn’t received this assignment.

Sigh!

Iris’ hands clenched as killing intent appeared in her eyes. She would kill that bastard, no matter if he was her professor.
