Chapter 33: We Need To Talk

Chapter 33: We Need To Talk

Iris was impressed by Xavier’s skillful stitching on her arm. She couldn’t help but wonder if he was pursuing a double degree in medicine alongside business.

"Xavier, are you doing a double degree?" Iris curiously asked after he finished bandaging her arm.

Xavier didn’t say anything, but his eyes flickered with confusion, prompting Iris to continue her words, "I mean, how did you do that? It felt like I was being treated by a doctor, not an ordinary person like you." She was genuinely curious about his skill in medical care.

Although she can provide aid to injured colleagues, she is not as skilled as Xavier. Her knowledge was acquired through self-teaching via video on youtube.

"No," Xavier replied as he cleared the table. "I’m a quick learner. I watch YouTube videos, and I can copy what they do..."

Iris was speechless.

’Why does he remind me of myself!?’ she thought, narrowing her eyes as she watched him head towards the bathroom. ’If he’s not a medical student, why does he have a room like this in his house? Could his parents really be doctors?’ she wondered, trying to discover the mystery surrounding Xavier’s background.

However, before she could act on her plan, she suddenly remembered a crucial detail — where would she sleep?

’Grandma! Why did you put me in this situation?’ Iris quietly muttered to herself while sitting on the edge of the bed. Her mind raced, trying to figure out how to handle the situation. She couldn’t possibly spend the night here, right?

After some time, she made a decision; She would talk to Xavier and ask him or Justin to drive her back home. Even if her grandma refused to open the door for her, she didn’t care. She would find a way to get in, even if it meant forcing the door open.

’Yes, that’s the right decision!’ She nodded, feeling determined to speak to Xavier about it.

While Iris was deep in thought, Xavier suddenly disappeared from the bathroom. He reappeared in a particular room on the ground floor of his house.

Startled by Xavier’s sudden presence, Justin and Niles, who were enjoying their wine in that room, quickly acknowledged him.

"Milord..." Justin jolted in surprise.

"Milord, what brings you here?" Niles stood up from his seat and bowed slightly towards Xavier.

"Milord, would you like some wine as well?" Justin hurriedly opened a new bottle of wine for Xavier and served him gently. "I know Iris’ blood is delicious. It must have a very sweet smell and trigger your thirst," he said while offering him a glass. "Milord, please drink this wine. It’s the fresh blood that Selina acquired today..."

Xavier didn’t utter a word; he accepted the glass from Justin and emptied it in one gulp. After finishing the wine, he looked at them both in turn.

"Tonight, I want both of you to leave this house. Go to our other place, and you can come back tomorrow morning," Xavier said coldly. "...And, make sure Selina knows about this. Warn her not to come to the main house!" he said.

Niles and Justin were surprised by Xavier’s instructions but didn’t question anything. Instead, they simply nodded in understanding and obeyed his orders.

After conveying what he needed to say, Xavier disappeared from the room. He reappears in the bathroom. Upon coming out, he found Iris already sitting on the bed, her gaze fixed on him.

"We need to talk," he stated before she could utter a word. "Follow me." He led the way to the living room area on the same floor.

The room felt more homie than the furniture downstairs, which resembled those seen in magazines showcasing model houses.

Seated across from Xavier, Iris noticed a bouquet of fresh white roses on the coffee table. ’Did his mother place these roses?’ she wondered, puzzled. ’But why didn’t his mother or father appear when I arrived? Don’t they mind their son inviting a woman into their house?’

Xavier’s voice broke her thoughts, "Iris, would you like something to drink?" he asked, observing her quiet demeanor and how she awkwardly avoided meeting his gaze.

"No, but I also want to say something," Iris replied.

"Go ahead," Xavier said calmly, crossing his legs and leaning against the couch.

"Could you drive me home?" Iris finally expressed her request.

Xavier tilted his head, gently stroking his forehead as if contemplating something. His actions increased Iris’s worry that he might refuse her.

"If you can’t..." she continued, anxiety creeping into her voice, "Can you ask Justin to drive me home? I’m sure he would be willing to do that."

After a moment, Xavier looked at Iris and said, "Justin isn’t at home right now," his words caused a hint of disappointment to appear in Iris’ eyes. "...And it’s not that I don’t want to drive you home. But I had some wine earlier. I can’t drive under the influence of alcohol, can I?" He said.

Iris’ mind raced, ’When did he drink wine? Was he drinking in the bathroom earlier?’ She narrowed her eyes, trying to decipher if he was being truthful, but quickly averted her gaze when she realized he was looking back at her.

"Well, I can drive..." Iris hesitated, realizing her suggestion could lead to awkward outcomes.

Xavier seemed surprised by her offer, "Are you sure?" he asked, willing to go along if she insisted. "We can go now if you want."

"No," Iris responded hastily, realizing that if she drove his car, the man would have to stay at her house since he couldn’t drive back to his own. "Actually, it’s okay. I’ll just stay here," she corrected herself.

"Oh, I thought you wanted me to sleep over at your house. It doesn’t matter... either way, Iris. I can sleep there if you insist," he said casually, amused by Iris’ blushing face. Teasing her felt entertaining to him.

Iris tried to hide the redness on her face by looking away. However, Xavier’s following sentence made her freeze instantly.
