Chapter 31: I Will Accept Her Feelings

Iris had never been aware of Xavier’s background; he was quite secretive about his personal life. All she knew was that he had moved to town about a year ago and had become her classmate. His private life remained a mystery to her.

"What are you waiting for?" Xavier said impatiently, surprising Iris. "Lie down in this bed, Iris."

"S-Sleeping there? W-Why? Why should I sleep there..." She stuttered, her tone filled with fear and alertness, as she looked at his gaze. She was afraid that this man might do something inappropriate to her.

His peculiar bearing was still hard for her to understand; he brought her to his house, and now he was asking her to sleep on the bed. She felt on edge!

"Yes!"

Although worried, Iris still walked towards the bed, her face dark and tense. She avoided Xavier’s gaze and focused on the bed.

"Why do you look scared?" Xavier asked, confused by the sudden change in her expression. Somehow, he felt annoyed because Iris was the first human he couldn’t hear her thoughts, and it bothered him.

"Xavier, please don’t do anything..." Iris stopped her words as she felt her phone vibrating nonstop in her coat pocket. Her body instantly turned cold when she saw her grandmother’s name on the phone screen.

’How could I forget Grandma!?’ She mumbled while accepting the call.

"Iris!? Iris...are you there??" Cassandra’s panicked voice could be heard on the other end.

"G-Grandma. Yes...." Iris said softly. "I..."

"Thank goodness you answered..." Cassandra’s voice trembled with fear. She was too afraid something might happen to her granddaughter again. The image of Iris lost in the woods behind their house during the blizzard a few days ago is still imprinted in her mind. "...Where are you, Iris? It’s already 11 pm, and you’re not home yet?"

Iris tried to come up with an excuse for her grandmother, but her tongue betrayed her, and not a single word came out from her lips. She was utterly speechless.

Her hands gripped her cell phone tightly, and slowly, she looked up at Xavier as if asking him for help.

"G-Grandma, I..." her voice trailed off, and without thinking, she handed her cell phone to Xavier. She needed his help to explain to her grandmother. Perhaps, her grandmother’s worries would lessen if she found out she was with Xavier now.

However, it turns out that Iris misunderstood because her grandmother began to worry and get angry upon knowing she was with Xavier.

Xavier, who still couldn’t believe that Iris gave him her cell phone, couldn’t help but speak, "Ms. Gray, it’s Xavier Darkwood. Iris is here with me..." He had not finished his sentence when Cassandra interrupted him.

"What? Xavier Darkwood?" Cassandra was shocked to hear that. How could Iris be with him? She vividly remembered Iris’s promise to keep her distance from Xavier this morning. But, why was she now with him again, and at midnight? She felt confused and angry at the same time.

"Yes, Grandma Gray. Please don’t worry too much; she is with me now. I will bring her home soon..." He explained casually, although his eyes stared angrily at Iris, blaming her for putting him in such an awkward situation.

Xavier pulled the phone away from his ear. He pressed the speaker button so Iris could hear his conversation with her grandmother.

Cassandra tried to keep herself from getting too angry at Xavier, recognizing that it was her granddaughter’s fault. After taking a deep breath trying to calm herself, she said, "Xavier, I beg you not to give false hope to Iris. Not again, young man. You don’t need to feel sorry or pity if you don’t like her. If my granddaughter is still pursuing you, please just ignore her...Look the other way."

Xavier didn’t comment on Cassandra’s words, but his eyes sharply locked onto Iris’ eyes. His expressionless gaze made Iris feel awkward, and she wished she could vanish from that place.

Slowly, Iris felt her face grow warm. "Oh, please, Grandma, who is chasing Xavier? I’m not, alright!" Iris desperately wanted to say that, but she restrained herself. Feeling ashamed in front of Xavier, she turned her gaze away, hoping her grandma would stop her rambling.

However, Cassandra continued speaking, "I know my granddaughter is shameless for still pursuing you after you rejected her so many times. She really adores you." She sighed deeply. "But, I hope this is the last..."

"Ms. Gray. Excuse me if I interrupt you. You seem to have misunderstood something," Xavier interrupted Cassandra. His voice immediately caught Iris’s attention, and she looked at him curiously.

When Iris turned her gaze towards him, she was surprised to see his eyes beaming, and a faint smile appeared at the corners of his lips. She felt like an entire zoo was dancing in her stomach; it was the first time she had seen this man smile at her. She silently gulped, waiting for him to finish his words.

"Misunderstanding?" asked Cassandra, sounding confused.

"Yes. I never rejected her; all this time, I simply ignored her," Xavier said calmly, but Iris felt like thunder just struck her ears. She wanted to gag his mouth to prevent him from continuing his sentence, but she was powerless at the moment. She shot a glare at Xavier and protested in her mind, knowing that his words could make her grandma feel sad again.

He continued, "And, this time, I’ve decided not to ignore her..."

Iris frowned upon hearing his last words, feeling confused. She wasn’t the only one; Cassandra felt the same way. However, neither of them said another word, waiting for Xavier to finish.

"So, Ms. Gray... You don’t need to worry anymore because I will accept Iris’ feelings from now on!" He feels amused noticing Iris widening her eyes in shock.

"YOU WHAT!?" Cassandra shouted on the other side, taken aback to hear that this man finally accepted her granddaughter’s feelings. Did she hear that man’s words wrong?

"I said I’ll take care of your granddaughter, Ms. Gray. If Iris is still willing to accept me..." Xavier stated, looking directly into Iris’ eyes as if he were now confessing his love to her.
