Chapter 273: Her Decision (1)

Chapter 273: Her Decision (1)

"Lady Iris," Lucian smiled, looking at the confident Iris before her. Her vibes were much different from the Iris he had met before. This woman is someone he met in the past. "You finally remember—"

Iris could only smile in response to Lucian because she felt too confused to say anything to him.

What Iris felt now was like when she had seen Xavier earlier — utterly speechless.

She turned away her gaze from Lucian and looked towards the house. With her divine eyes, she could see Xavier and Xyronos sitting in the living room; they seemed to be discussing something.

Iris felt slightly disappointed when she tried to hear what they were discussing but couldn’t hear anything. She believed they might have sealed their surroundings with a magic barrier, afraid she might listen to what they were discussing.

Her eyes couldn’t stop lingering on Xavier, who was sitting facing in her direction. Looking at him after regaining her memories felt no different from what she had felt before Xyronos forced her to move here.

This surprised Iris because she had always assumed that seeing Xavier again would trigger anger in her, but she was wrong.

However, she felt slightly distressed that Xavier seemed to ignore her. Since his arrival, not once had he glanced in her direction.

’Was he disappointed I didn’t return to him as soon as I regained my memories and powers?’ She silently let out a deep sigh to ease the heaviness in her chest.

Iris turned towards Lucian and saw him lying on a large rock nearby. He closed his eyes, enjoying the morning sunlight.

"Did you just discover this place?" Iris asked, sensing he wasn’t asleep.

She wondered why it took them so long to find her here. Knowing Xavier’s strength surpasses even Xyronos and considering Xyronos isn’t in his best condition, finding her should be easy, right?

Lucian’s eyes slowly opened. He didn’t immediately look at Iris to answer her question because, at this moment, his heart suddenly felt irritated again, remembering those past.

After learning about the deal Xavier made with Xyronos, Lucian pleaded with Xavier to cancel the deal almost every day. Yet, Xavier never seemed to hear his words.

What worries Lucian most is the possibility of Iris choosing Xyronos and leaving Xavier. As a long-time friend of Xavier’s, he knew Xavier’s character well. He could already envision the potential consequences if his fears became reality—the dark history of Middle Earth repeating itself, marked by unavoidable war and bloodshed.

Today marks the final day. Now, the decision rests in Iris’ hands. What will her choice be this time?

After taking a few deep breaths, Lucian settled on a rock, crossing his legs while observing Iris, who remained fixated on him. Her expressionless stare troubled him.

Clearing his throat lightly, Lucian asked, "Iris, would you believe me if I told you Xavier knew about this place since the first day you disappeared?"

Iris was taken aback. "H-He knew?"

This left her puzzled. If Xavier knew, why hadn’t he come to rescue her?

Not long ago, she hadn’t recalled her past and harbored a deep hatred toward Xyronos. She also struggled to find a way out of that place to return to Willow Town. If he had come to rescue her, she would have returned to their house in Willow Town.

’Why? Why did he just let me go?’ Iris clenched her fist tightly. It seemed to her that Xavier no longer wanted her. Knowing this made her heart sink like a falling kite.

After trying to calm her racing heart, Iris said, "Why didn’t he come—"

"You don’t truly understand who Xavier is, Iris. How deeply he loves you, more than himself, and how unwavering he is in keeping his word," Lucian said casually, but his words hit Iris like thunder.

Despite knowing Xavier for only a year, she wholeheartedly agreed with Lucian.

"He visits this place daily, torturing himself to see what happens in that house. Witnessing the woman he loves—" Lucian halted his sentence when he realized there was no point in explaining how much Xavier suffered at the time.

Hearing Lucian’s explanation, Iris cried inside but fought hard to suppress her emotions.

Observing her standing silently, Lucian continued, noticing the redness in her eyes.

"Iris... Xavier can’t break the promises he made with Xyronos. That’s the only reason he watches you from here without interfering."

Iris felt even more bewildered after hearing Lucian’s words. "Promise? What promise?"

Lucian is reluctant to reveal more. He sensed he might have already said too much to Iris.

"Please, Lucian, tell me!" Iris pleaded, growing anxious about the promise Xavier had made with Xyronos.

Silence filled the air as Lucian just stared at her without saying anything. However, when his mind told him to remain silent, his mouth betrayed him.

He started to disclose to Iris the month-old deal between Xyronos and Xavier. He just found out about this deal two weeks ago.

"That’s all I know, Iris... If you want more, you should ask them directly," Lucian concluded.

Lying back on the rock, he looked up at the blue sky, deliberately ignoring Iris, though this time, trying not to speak further.

Iris’ face, which showed little emotion, gradually darkened. Hearing promises between two men she loved in different realms and times shocked her.

How could they decide about her future without talking to her first? Even though she already knew her decision, seeing how childish they were made her a little angry.

She really hated having these two memories. If only she hadn’t gotten her past back, she wouldn’t have faced this complicated emotional turmoil.

Sighing deeply, she was startled by Lucian’s sudden voice.

"You’d better return to the house, Iris! They’re about to kill each other—"

Lucian chuckled softly when he saw Iris was no longer nearby.

"God, how heartless of you to put your two sons in this situation!?" He shook his head, then lay back down and closed his eyes.

Having strong friends is really troublesome!
