Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 269: I Choose The Second Options
Chapter 269: I Choose The Second Options
Reborn in this land gives her hope. She could live here without her family interfering in her life. Again!
"I agree with you, Iris. I have to stop my people from talking to me like this. They still act as if I am their king..." Xyronos smiled bitterly, remembering that he was a king without his land.
Iris stopped eating when she saw his face darken, and his hands suddenly stopped in the air. She could feel something was bothering him, and she demanded to know everything after she died.
"Tell me what happens after I die?" Iris asked while clenching her fists tightly, feeling angry as she remembered how she died. People she trusted killed her for no reason — she can’t even defend herself.
She needed to uncover what really happened at that time. Because she wants to make a plan for her revenge, she would never let the person who killed her live happily.
Xyronos didn’t know where to start to answer her question.
After thinking for a few seconds, he finally opened his mouth.
"I believe you already remember everything before you die, right?"
She nods.
"Well, after you die. Your father and Xavier annihilate my people. They kill them all, including me. I could only appear here because my father helped me, but—" Xyronos took a deep breath. He was so angry at this moment remembering those past.
"That old man gave me two options I could choose." He said.
Iris was surprised to hear that. She adjusts her emotions and smiles sympathetically at him — she feels sorry for him.
"Father, let you choose? What is that?" Iris asks curiously.
"He gave me two options when he revived me in this realm. First, I could keep my power, but I will lose memories about you—" he pauses to take another deep breath.
Iris was stunned, but she didn’t interrupt him. She silently waited for him to finish his words while holding her breath, anticipating knowing the second option.
"Second, I could keep my memories about you, and I will also know every time you are reborn, but... I will lose my power."
Iris’ hands clenched tighter after hearing the choices. How cruel is his father!? How could he give such options!?
"And you chose number one? That’s why you only found me after so many years?" She asked.
Xyronos shook his head slowly while smiling bitterly.
"W-What!? You chose number two?" Iris was shocked to hear that. It was difficult for her to understand because she knew that Xyronos needed his power to survive and help the Demon race rise again.
"Hmm, you are most important to me, Iris. I didn’t care about my power—"
Iris can’t let him finish his words; she leans closer and hugs him. She just hugged him without saying anything. She feels warm inside, knowing he chose her over his power.
Xyronos smiled as he returned the hug.
"Don’t feel sorry for me, my dear. You are my world, and meeting you again was my priority. So, I don’t care about anything else, only you."
Iris smiles in silence. But a moment later, something crossed her mind. She let go of her hug and looked at him with a frown.
Xyronos was surprised when he felt Iris push him away and when he saw her confused-looking gaze.
"What is it? Why do you look at me like that?" He asked while pinching her adorable cheeks gently.
Iris slightly pushed his hand away and stared at him with a puzzled expression.
"Why did you send your people to kill me?" Her voice was as cold as ice, her hand clenched tightly. She had been too elated to regain her memories until this moment.
She remembered vividly the instances when demons almost ended her life. They had even destroyed the Shadow Guild and tortured Eric.
Now, recalling all this, she began to doubt whether this man was really Xyronos.
Iris attempted to delve into his thoughts several times, but to her surprise, she couldn’t. There were only a handful of individuals whose minds she couldn’t penetrate, and he seemed to be one of them.
’Earlier, he mentioned losing his power. So why is he able to protect his mind so perfectly?’ Iris wondered. This only added to his confusion.
...
Seeing her sudden coldness and gaze, Xyronos was shocked. However, relief flooded his heart upon hearing her question.
He briefly thought Iris had shifted her attitude because she remembered his older brother, Xavier. But it seems he worries too much.
"Do you want to know my reasons?" Xyronos asked as he slowly took her hands. She slightly nodded while lowering her gaze at their hands.
After gently squeezing her hand, he continued, "I ended your life because you were born without memories of your past. I believed by doing so, you could swiftly be reborn..."
Iris was speechless hearing his abrupt reason.
How could he think in such a way? No wonder he ascended to become the Demon King; he showed no mercy to those, including herself. He killed her merely because she was born without memories of their past lives.
"Xy, you’re so cruel. How could you have killed me?" she asked before heaving a deep sigh.
Xyronos gasped in surprise at her sullenness.
"I-Iris, my dear... please, don’t be angry with me, okay!?" His voice sounded panicked. "I only wanted to reunite with you quickly, that’s all. I know—" he couldn’t finish his words as he saw her raise her hand to stop him from speaking.
"How many times have you killed me?" she asked in a calm tone, though her expression betrayed her — anger flashed through her eyes.
Xyronos couldn’t answer, afraid she would get even more annoyed.
"Iris... Let’s take a walk outside, hmm!?" Xyronos suggested, rising from his seat and smiling at her. "See... the sky looks so beautiful. I want to show you a beautiful place near this house."
He aimed to divert her attention, avoiding further discussion of his past cruel actions, knowing it was a painful topic.
Iris took a deep breath to calm herself.
