Chapter 233: Surprised By Justin’s Progress
The Next Day.
Iris recalled her conversation with Xavier from the previous night. The shock lingered, disrupting her sleep and occupying her mind with thoughts from her past that begged for clarification.
What she heard from him still stunned her; even now, it felt more like a dream than reality. However, when morning came, Xavier excused himself, citing something he needed to attend to. He was left without the chance to ask him.
Iris redirected herself to Gavriel’s cabin to assess Justin’s training progress.
When she arrived, they had already started practice. She settled on a couch on the veranda, relishing the vast expanse of woods stretching out before her. The stunning beauty calmed her mind, and she felt refreshed again after a lack of sleep. In the distance, she observed Gavriel training Justin, their conversation too distant for her to bother listening in.
In this serene moment, thoughts about her past began to surface again. She attempted to dig into her memories, seeking traces of her life in the middle realm, but found nothing. No matter how hard she tried to remember, not a single memory from that place came to mind.
’Did I really come from that place?’ Iris began to doubt Xavier’s words. ’Why don’t I have any memories of it? Who am I, really!?’ The unanswered question lingered, leaving her feeling lost.
Even Xavier couldn’t provide answers as he lacked any recollection of her either. It felt disheartening. Both of them were stripped of their memories of each other.
’God, why did you do that to us? What was your purpose in doing that? This is also part of my punishment that I can’t remember my past?’ Iris can’t help but talk to an unseen God. She hoped He would listen to her. ’Can you please allow me to remember? Please...’
If she hadn’t experienced a rebirth like now, Iris wouldn’t have been sure if God had heard her prayers.
But now, she’s confident that God will hear whatever she asks. She hoped that this time, He could grant her prayer to remember even just a fraction of her true identity — her past life in the Middle Realm.
She also prays to God to stop playing with her; she feels exhausted. In just a few months, she had endured this torment: the lack of knowledge about her past. She didn’t want to go through this ordeal again.
Now, she needs to meet Lucian or Silvana for clarification. They were the only ones who might shed light on her past.
Unfortunately...
Silvana had left the house and wouldn’t return for a week. Meanwhile, Lucian proved elusive, that person more like a ninja, slipping in and out unnoticed. It frustrated her every time she had to deal with him.
Iris didn’t have a choice now. She could only wait until Silvana returned to seek answers.
...
After a while, she released a few deep sighs while glancing in Gavriel’s direction.
There was amusement in her eyes as she watched Gavriel put Justin through rigorous physical training. He tasked Justin, a mature man with a soul akin to a toddler, with running to the peak and back while carrying heavy equipment.
She lost count of the number of times Gavriel instructed Justin to ascend and descend the mountain. It seemed like a continuous cycle. She had been seated in the same spot since morning, only now realizing it was almost lunchtime.
Sighing again, she had lost track of time, consumed by her own thoughts.
Eventually, Iris noticed Gavriel finally making his way towards her.
"Why did you ask him to do that?" Iris asked, noticing Justin was nowhere in sight after running into the woods toward the mountain peak.
Gavriel chuckled as he settled on a bench not far from her, observing Justin, who had already reached the peak in a matter of seconds.
"Are you genuinely asking, or... are you only pretending not to know?" He shot her an annoyed glance, leaving Iris feeling confused.
"Did I miss something?" Now, her curiosity about Justin’s training progress was aroused.
"Tsk... Tsk... I knew it! You must have been lost in thought. I called you a few times, but you ignored me..." Gavriel shook his head, gazing into the woods to check on Justin. Seconds later, a proud smile adorned his lips.
"Care to share with me? What’s bothering you!?" Gavriel asked, breaking the silence.
Iris slowly released a deep sigh. She began to open her mouth, intending to disclose her identity as Iris from the Middle Realm. Still, her words abruptly halted on the tip of her tongue when she noticed Justin approaching them.
’Damn!! G-Gavriel... Why did Justin return already!??’ She quickly checked her watch. ’My goodness, he... he came back in just four minutes?? How is that possible!?’
Gavriel smiled as he observed Justin, who appeared exhausted after a few hours of physical training.
’Now you notice it!’ Gavriel remarked.
’What exactly are you giving him? How can he move that fast?’ Iris curiously asked. She didn’t expect Justin to progress so much faster.
Iris remembered her climb with Xavier to the peak, which took approximately two hours. Considering Justin’s sprint, he might have covered the distance in about 2 hours for a return trip. Yet, not even five minutes had elapsed, and Justin had reappeared.
Gavriel rolled his eyes upon hearing her question, responding through their mental connection, ’Milady...’ He playfully addressed her. ’I didn’t give him anything. Surprisingly, he lost his memories, but his power remains; I only need to awaken it. He simply forgot to cast a spell, preventing him from teleporting or using other abilities...’
Iris was utterly stunned; she hadn’t considered this possibility. She had assumed Justin would resemble a four-year-old not only in his thoughts but also in his physical strength. Yet, she was mistaken.
"Wow!! This is a good sign, Gavriel!! He will—"
"Pretty sister, what a good sign?" Suddenly, Justin’s cute, adorable voice interrupted Iris.
She turned to see Justin standing a few steps before her, his already pale face appearing even more so.
