Chapter 224: Xavier’s Jealousy
Chapter 224: Xavier’s Jealousy
Hearing Iris’ words, Xavier felt as if lightning struck him. He felt his cold blood burning for the first time since he arrived in this lower realm.
Xavier knew Iris had a history with the Demon King in her past life. And now, she said she wanted to find that bastard!?
Countless questions now dancing through his mind, ’Why? Why does she want to find The Demon King? Did she finally remember her past life with that person!? No. Impossible. If she remembers, she must remember me too, right!?’
He silently took a deep sigh.
The more he thought about this, the worse his headache became, and the fear of losing her became more apparent. What if that cunning Demon King managed to steal Iris from him?
Once again, Xavier felt his anger flare, but he tried to keep his emotions from Iris. He could only maintain a calm expression so she wouldn’t suspect he was jealous of the Demon King.
He smiled lovingly at her while gently squeezing her hand, trying to hide his frustration because he didn’t remember her in the middle realm. Still, he was sure Iris must be someone special to him.
"Why do you want to meet a dead person?" He asked calmly, though inwardly; he felt like he wanted to kill someone.
"W-What? The Demon King is dead?" A wave of disappointment flashed through Iris’s eyes upon hearing Xavier’s words. How could a powerful entity like the Demon King die? Who killed him!?
"Hmm, he is..." Xavier patiently answered her, trying to lock eyes with her, aiming to discern her true intention in seeking the Demon King, his enemy.
After a few more seconds, he didn’t discern any hint. It frustrated him. "Iris, how do you know about him!? Did you ever cross paths with him?" He finally expressed what he wanted to know: whether Iris already remembered her past life in the Middle Realm or not.
...
Iris was deep in thought, imagining the increasing difficulty of Eric’s recovery because the main ingredient to concoct the potion for his healing was the Demon King’s blood. Xavier’s saying that the Demon King is dead stresses her out—how will she get his blood if he’s gone?
Suddenly, a thought struck her. If the old Demon King died, wouldn’t there be a successor, like a king in this world? Someone who would replace them if they passed away.
"Xavier, is there a new Demon King?" She asked, nervously looking at his eyes.
"No. He doesn’t have a successor because that man is still alive..." Xavier intended to say that, but a wave of jealousy engulfed him as he sensed Iris’s interest in meeting that person.
"There’s no new Demon King," He said with a deadpan expression. "Iris, can you please answer my question first?"
"Huh!? What are you asking?" Iris asked, confused, realizing she hadn’t heard him ask anything.
Xavier, "..."
"Why do you want to look for the Demon King?" He asked again, despite knowing these words were distressing him. He feels jealous, just thinking Iris is looking for his enemy.
Iris immediately explained Silvana’s information, mentioning that she needed an ingredient from the middle realm to concoct a potion for Eric.
This aroused her curiosity to study magic books and how to concoct a potion for Eric’s sake.
Xavier was stunned but remained silent, allowing her to continue her words.
"From the book I read, one of the ingredients for Eric’s potion is the blood of the Demon King. That’s why I want to find him. If I could meet him in person, I would—" Iris’s words halted abruptly as Xavier laughed.
"Hahahaha, oh my darling Iris..." Xavier couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing her words.
"Why are you laughing at me?" Iris asked while frowning. Didn’t hear his response. She glared at him.
Xavier didn’t immediately answer but pulled her into his arms, tightly embracing her as he continued to laugh. Her explanation amused him. Instantly, he no longer felt jealous or afraid that Iris remembered the Demon King.
"Why are you laughing at me, Xavier!?" Iris asked again. She glanced up to see his face but was surprised to realize they were now inside the house, on the second-floor living room area.
"Let’s sit first," Xavier led her to the seating area. He continued his words after he saw her sit beside him, "I laugh because you are so funny."
Iris grew more confused, her eyes showing annoyance.
Seeing her reaction, Xavier smiled slightly before continuing, "Do you think that if you met the Demon King, he would just give you his blood?"
Iris "..."
Well, she already knows that.
Xavier continued, "He will kill you. The Demon King is an evil creature in the middle realm..." He wasn’t entirely honest with her because he knew if Iris appeared before the Demon King, he would probably give her as much blood as needed — he knew The Demon King’s nature; he likes beauty.
"I know—" Iris said softly, smiling back at him. "But, I have you. I will let you come with me and kill him if he refuses. You... won’t lose to him, right?" she chuckled.
Xavier once again felt amused by her question.
"No. Of course, I won’t lose to him..." Xavier said confidently. ’I will kill him once more, only for you...’ he thought.
Iris felt so happy knowing Xavier was more potent than the Demon King. However, her joy faded when she realized the Demon King was dead.
"Xavier, but he’s dead. How can I get his blood?" She said helplessly, wanting to find another way to help Eric recover completely from his illness.
Xavier secretly took a deep breath. He knew that if Silvana mentioned that the potion’s main ingredient was the Demon King’s blood, there probably weren’t any other alternative ingredients.
He squeezed her hand gently, "I will find a way, Iris...I will find a way." He promised her to seek out the Demon King’s blood.
"Thank you, Xavier. If we can’t find the blood, it’s okay. Eric will be fine as long as he stays on the Island..."
