Chapter 217: Fourth Task (5)
Concerned about Justin’s condition, Iris didn’t waste any time. She shut her eyes, immediately cleared her mind, and concentrated on her target. After a few seconds, a Golden Pistol appeared in both of her hands.
Making sure her bullet was ready, Iris swiftly vanished from the tree branch in her black combat outfit without making a sound.
She appeared right behind the Demon, standing at the back of the group. Using her invisible barrier, she moved faster than normal eyes could follow and shot the Demon’s heart without hesitation.
Bang!
The gunshot startled the Demons and Christoffer Lewis. Suddenly alert, the Demons searched for their fallen comrade turned to ashes, but they couldn’t identify the attacker.
"Who attacked us?" shouted one Demon, scanning the surroundings. Before he could finish speaking, another gunshot rang out.
Bang!
The Demon turned to ashes and followed his fellow to death, terrifying the rest.
"Protect the boss!" yelled the powerful Demon, looking in Iris’s direction.
He could see the shadow moving but could not see the figure. This made him uneasy. Because this is the first time he has encountered a powerful opponent like this during his stay in this lower realm.
’This is bad! Whether this opponent is a Demon or some other creature, we’re in trouble—’ The Demon thought abruptly stopped. He almost stumbled when he heard a woman’s voice in his mind.
Iris smiles before speaking to him through their mental connection, ’You’re right, Mr. Demon, you are in trouble! This is your unlucky day, you meet me.’ She said with a nonchalant expression, yet her voice was as cold as ice. It makes the Demon feel like all his blood runs cold.
She was hearing the Demon’s thoughts that he could see her shadow made Iris worried. She immediately stopped time to avoid this Demon blowing himself up.
More loud gunshots echoed several times.
Within a minute, Iris eliminated all the Demons, leaving only Christoffer Lewis. He remained frozen, wide-eyed, staring at where Iris had appeared.
Feeling relieved that the powerful Demon hadn’t detonated himself, Iris slowly approached Christoffer and stood before him with a smile.

Meanwhile, a mile away from Iris’s confrontation with the Demons, Gavriel spotted the black SUV they had used earlier parked by the empty road.
Gavriel’s surprise turned to concern as he saw Justin still inside the car, but he just sat there doing nothing. His confusion deepened as he tried to talk to Justin through his mind, but he found he couldn’t.
This was unusual. Not only was he unable to speak with Justin in his mind, but he also couldn’t sense Justin’s aura at all. He could only observe Justin sitting in the car through his divine sight.
’A powerful witch must have cast a barrier around Justin!’ Gavriel reasoned, finding this the most plausible explanation for this strange situation.
After ensuring no one was watching him from the surroundings a mile from his place, Gavriel teleported into the car. But an odd thing occurred.
When he approached the car, his body was forcefully thrown backward several meters, as if a magical barrier covered the vehicle and repelled him. Landing gracefully on the ground, Gavriel chuckled despite his annoyance.
"You’d better show yourself before I find you, witch!" Gavriel hissed, releasing his power. A faint silver aura surrounded him as he swiftly moved toward the car. Placing his palm in the air, mimicking the touch of an invisible wall, he began chanting.
Soon, a cold smile spread across Gavriel’s face. He walked to the driver’s seat and opened the door for Justin. But shock replaced his anticipation as he saw Justin’s empty gaze, resembling that of a soulless human.
With one glance, Gavriel knew what happened to Justin.
’Is he under a spell!?’ Gavriel muttered, trying to break the magic spell and wake Justin, but found himself unable to do so. Fear gripped him; it was rare to meet such a strong opponent.
’Whoever did this to Justin possesses abilities surpassing mine,’ Gavriel muttered softly, scanning the surroundings to check if the person was still present.
However, realization dawned on him. ’This is a trap!’
Gavriel slammed the car door shut, concealing the vehicle with an invisible barrier before he vanished. He returned to Iris to check on her.
As he landed on a tree branch, a startling sight greeted him. He didn’t spot any Demon there but only noticed Iris standing near her target’s lifeless body.
"Are you finished?" Gavriel appeared near Iris, surprising her.
"Yeah, I just took care of him," Iris looked around then at Gavriel. "Where’s Justin?" She asked worriedly.
Suddenly, Gavriel’s expression darkened. "Follow me!" he said and disappeared. Despite her confusion over Gavriel’s demeanor, she immediately followed his aura.
Arriving near the car they had used earlier, Iris felt relieved to see Justin inside, appearing healthy. Earlier, she had assumed he was injured, which explained his absence from helping her.
"Why didn’t he join us earlier?" she asked, quickly glancing at Gavriel as she followed him to the car.
"See for yourself," Gavriel replied, opening the car door for Iris to get a clearer view of Justin.
Frowning, Iris observes Gavriel. She could see Gavriel seemed concerned.
"What’s wrong?" she asked while turning her focus on Justin. When she saw him, she was utterly shocked.
"T-This... What happened to him? Why does he look like this?" Iris gasped, realizing Justin’s blank gaze was fixed in one direction as if he were in a trance.
"Don’t ask me. He was like that when I found him. I guess someone is messing with his mind," Gavriel sighed deeply, puzzled by Justin’s condition. "Can you read his mind?"
"Ah, you’re right!" Iris said. She was too shocked, which made her completely forget about her ability to see someone’s memories — even though she didn’t know if it would work on Justin, as her attempts in the past had failed.
Nevertheless, she decided to try again, hoping for success. She needed to uncover what happened to Justin earlier, why he had ended up like this.
