Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 197: Have No Memories Of Her

Chapter 197: Have No Memories Of Her

Now, something is troubling Xavier’s mind. Did he have a connection with Iris in the past? Why does he have no memories of her?

’Xavier, are you listening? Why do you still seem uncertain?’ Lucian asked again after observing his best friend’s doubtful expression.

Observing Lucian intently, Xavier asked, ’Did I have a relationship with her in the past?’

Lucian attempted to respond, parting his lips several times, yet no words emerged. He struggled to articulate as if an invisible force suppressed any revelation. His surprise could not be denied.

’Xavier, I regret to inform you... I am unable to disclose anything. It appears an unknown force has sealed my mouth and mind, forbidding me from telling what I know...’ Lucian’s words carried a bitter tone. This is the first time he has experienced this kind of bizarre thing in his entire life.

Lucian gazed at his friend with sympathy, convinced that the past incident involving Xavier and Lady Iris had somehow triggered God’s wrath. He believed that God had intervened, causing Xavier to forget everything about Lady Iris and also erasing Lady Iris’s memories of Xavier.

Xavier’s shoulders slumped in response to Lucian’s words. The more he tried to recollect the events related to Iris in the past, the more lost he felt. He couldn’t recall anything, and this made him deeply unhappy.

...

Iris was well aware that Xavier and Lucian were engrossed in their own conversation, seemingly oblivious to her presence. Their silent communication was almost obvious.

Feeling ignored, she busied herself by playing with her cell phone, hoping their interaction would only last a short time. However, her expectations were soon proven wrong.

After a few minutes, she sensed an increasing intensity in Xavier’s demeanor. She could feel his annoyance and his sharp gaze unwaveringly fixed on Lucian.

As she watched the unspoken tension between them, she couldn’t help but wonder if they were having a silent battle through their gaze and mental exchanges.

Curious, she closed her eyes and attempted to eavesdrop on their conversation, yet her abilities proved far inferior to these two formidable individuals she had encountered.

Sighing deeply, Iris offered a faint smile while observing them.

"Gentlemen, if you still need time to talk, I’d better take my leave..." Iris’ voice suddenly echoed in the room, startling Xavier and Lucian.

They gaped at her in astonishment as she continued, "I’m aware you’re communicating using your minds. Please carry on; don’t mind me. I’ll head to the kitchen to prepare my dinner."

After a warm smile directed at them, she began to rise. But before she could make her exit, Xavier’s hand reached out to stop her.

"Iris, I’m sorry. Please stay," Xavier implored, his eyes filled with apologies.

She returned his smile and asked, "Are you sure you’ve finished your conversation with Lucian?" When Xavier nodded, she settled back into her seat and turned her attention to Lucian.

Iris feels surprised to see Lucian’s gaze. This man always appeared cold and distant around her; however, now he radiated an unexpected sense of respect and admiration in his eyes.

She was increasingly curious about their previous conversation, which apparently changed Lucian’s attitude towards him. Yet, she knew that attempting to ask about it at this moment would likely result in Lucian ignoring her. She decided to set her curiosity aside.

Her thoughts swirled around the idea that Lucian’s visit might be related to her role as an assassin for GH.

"Lucian, why did you want to meet me?" Iris asked.

Lucian was caught off guard by her question. He had come to observe her aura, but expressing this directly would only pique her curiosity further.

As Lucian pondered the right words to respond, Xavier’s voice abruptly echoed in his mind, ’Simply discuss her assignment at God Helper...’

Clearing his throat slightly, Lucian replied to Iris, "I’ve heard about the incident at the Shadow Guild and Eric’s unfortunate accident." He paused, noticing her frown. "Iris, I intended to grant you an extended leave until Eric regains consciousness. I plan to give you three months off..." he continued.

Iris panicked at his words.

"No! Please don’t give me another leave, Lucian. I’m terribly bored staying here without any activity. I’m willing to take on tasks weekly..." She refused.

Waiting a full three months for her next assignment seemed too long, hampering her quest for more power. She can’t wait that long.

Lucian was left momentarily speechless by her refusal. He glanced at Xavier, seeking guidance, but before he could discern Xavier’s response, Iris interjected.

"Xavier won’t interfere with my assignments. So, please don’t involve him, Lucian." He said firmly, then she turned her gaze at Xavier.

"Isn’t that right, Xavier? You won’t stop Lucian from assigning me tasks, will you?" She said softly while reaching for Xavier’s hand.

Witnessing her alluring smile, Xavier found himself unable to refute her request. He smiled in return and affirmed, "No, I won’t interfere," before signaling Lucian to proceed with the God Helper task as he saw fit.

"Iris, you are mistaken. Xavier has never intervened in your tasks at God Helper. I am the one who chooses and decides your assignments. However, I will select tasks that align with your current abilities," Lucian clarified.

Iris was taken aback by his explanation. She felt embarrassed for accusing Xavier of meddling in her tasks all this time.

Glancing apologetically at Xavier, she can’t help but say, "Sorry, Xavier... I thought you were involved—"

"It’s alright, Iris," Xavier reassured her, smiling before signaling for Lucian to end his conversation and leave them alone. He sought some time alone with his wife.

Disregarding Xavier’s sharp glance, Lucian turned to Iris.

"Are you certain you don’t want to consider the three months off?"

"Yes, I don’t need a holiday. Please assign me a new task," Iris replied enthusiastically, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Alright, I’ll arrange it for you," Lucian stated. Sensing the tension, he excused himself, aware that a prolonged stay might prompt the irritable Lord Xavier to kick him out of his house.
