Chapter 196: She Is Lady Iris!
Chapter 196: She Is Lady Iris!
"I must see her again to confirm if I was mistaken or if something awakened her true aura," Lucian suddenly exclaimed, noticing Xavier still in a daze. He sensed his friend harbored doubts about his earlier statement.
Xavier was taken aback upon hearing Lucian’s words. "Something awakens her aura?" He paused, pondering the possibility. "That is indeed plausible."
"Indeed. Just as memories can be concealed, auras too can lie dormant until an awakening trigger is found," Lucian explained.
"Lucian, let’s go. Your assumption is correct because Silvana can see her aura," Xavier said. He rises from his seat and urges Lucian to follow him.
"Silvana can feel her aura?" Lucian was stunned to hear that.
"Yes. That’s the reason why I believe Iris is not from this world but from the Middle realm," Xavier confirmed.
"Xavier, there’s no other way. I need to see her first before I confirm whether she is the same person," Lucian said. He waved her hand suddenly; all the fishing gear and the chair vanished.
Xavier and Lucian wasted no time in that place.
They disappear from the frozen lake and later reappear outside Xavier’s apartment building.
"Is she here?" Lucian asked, observing the old historic building ahead, then glanced warily at Xavier. "Why do you let the lady live in a crowded place like this? Are you trying to let the Demons know where she lives?" he warned.
"Oh, come on in, Lucian..." Xavier shook his head and opened the door. Once they entered the building, he continued. "Do you think someone could break my barrier? I recall, even you can’t manage that."
Lucian’s expression stiffened upon hearing his words. Yet Xavier was undeniably correct; despite his earnest efforts, he could never match Xavier’s abilities.
Upon reaching the living room in his penthouse, Xavier asked Lucian to wait.
Xavier sensed Iris was not at his place but at her own home. He immediately went to her place and found her peacefully asleep on the couch, tightly embracing a thick book and still wearing her clothes, the same as this morning.
Approaching the sofa, Xavier crouched down to see her peaceful sleeping face more clearly. He slowly took the book from her hand and placed it on the table, hesitating to wake her as she slept soundly.
Just as Xavier prepared to move her to the bedroom, he noticed her eyes flutter. His hand paused mid-air as a smile lit up his face.
"Hi, Iris... you’re finally awake," Xavier greeted her gently, assisting her to sit up. "Are you feeling alright? Why did you fall asleep here!?" he asked.
"I’m fine. I just dozed off while reading," Iris faintly smiled. "Have you just arrived? What time is it?" she asked, glancing at her watch and was surprised to realize that night had fallen.
"Someone’s been waiting to see you, Iris," he said. She frowned upon hearing his words but followed him to the upstairs living room.
As they ascended to the upper floor, Iris was surprised to find Lucian seated on the sofa dressed entirely in black attire. His long coat draped over his shoulders, giving the impression that he had just arrived from a wintry place despite spring in Orion City.
Experiencing a mix of emotions—happiness, and curiosity—Iris joined Lucian in the seating area, sitting across from him with Xavier.
However, she felt uncomfortable and pressured to be there for some unknown reason, sensing Lucian’s unbroken stare.
Casting an awkward smile at Lucian, she stuttered, "B-Boss..." Her voice trailed off as she realized her choice of words. "I mean, Lucian... hello... it’s nice to finally sit here with you." The words left her feeling drained.
’Gosh! Iris, why do you feel so nervous in his presence? He’s your boss, not your enemy. Relax...’ She quietly encouraged herself.
"Darling, there’s no need to be nervous or afraid of him," Xavier reassured Iris, noticing her discomfort around Lucian. He held her hand, placing it on his lap gently.
Iris was taken aback by Xavier’s sudden touch, responding to his words with a slight nod and a warm smile.
Xavier continued, "Lucian isn’t your enemy, so there’s no need to fear him. And my darling shall remember, your husband is more powerful than he is..." Though casually spoken, Xavier’s words were enough to sour Lucian’s expression and nearly prompted a laugh from Iris.
Suppressing her laughter, Iris held her silence, observing her husband’s dominant demeanor and then turning her gaze back to Lucian.
After feeling much better, Iris finally gathered the courage to ask, "I heard you wanted to meet me. Is there something you wish to discuss?"
However, her discomfort heightened when Lucian didn’t respond to her words, maintaining his intense stare at her.
Lucian seemed utterly oblivious to what Iris was saying, too startled to realize that what Xavier had stated was true—this woman, Iris Gray, was unlike any he had encountered.
Although her body still emitted a faint aura, Lucian was convinced it bore a striking resemblance to the aura of Lady Iris, whom he had encountered in the middle realm long ago.
The confusion and curiosity he experienced during their first meeting months ago gradually faded. He was confident that Lady Iris had been reborn in the body of the young girl, Iris Gray, in this lower realm.
Lucian shifted his gaze towards Xavier, and when their eyes met, he confirmed what Xavier sought.
’My friend, despite her aura’s faintness, is undeniably this lady, the same woman I encountered in the middle realm," Lucian calmly spoke through Xavier’s mind.
Even without Lucian’s explicit confirmation, Xavier was already convinced of his suspicions. Iris was the same woman Lucian and Silvana had encountered in the middle realm. And she was also the woman sought by the Demons, as revealed in Eric Hester’s memories.
Now, something is troubling Xavier’s mind. Did he have a connection with Iris in the past? Why does he have no memories of her?
’Xavier, are you listening? Why do you still seem uncertain?’ Lucian asked again after observing his best friend’s doubtful expression.
