Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife
Chapter 195: Different

Chapter 195: Different

Iris entered Eric’s treatment room with Justin trailing behind. She didn’t linger long since Eric remained semi-comatose, and Doctor Silvana was nowhere to be seen. It seems the doctor was also avoiding her.

She excused herself to return to Xavier’s penthouse and do her own research.

"Iris, why do you want to go home early?" Justin asked.

"I prefer to read my book in the apartment," She feels this mansion is too big for her to stay alone without Xavier around.

"I’ll accompany you to the apartment," Justin offered, concerned about her being alone and possibly vulnerable to an attack.

Iris glanced at Justin. "Can you teleport there? If you can, you might come..." She grinned, aware that access to Xavier’s place required his permission, and she believed Justin didn’t have access to go there.

Justin was speechless. He could only see Iris waving her hand and disappearing.

After he saw her vanish, he took out his cell phone and texted Xavier.

Later...

Iris appears in the penthouse’s living room. Not finding Xavier there, she decided to head to her apartment below.

After conversing with Gavriel about various matters, Iris realized the need to research the creatures she had recently encountered: Vampires, Angels, Demons, and Witches.

She understood that internet information might be trash. Still, she wanted to cross-reference it with what she learned from Gavriel.

Meanwhile, on a remote corner of this earth, where the land lay cloaked in a thick blanket of snow, Xavier stood atop a hill, gazing down at a small cabin nestled within the pristine, snow-clad forest.

Not far from the woods, his keen eyes discerned the figure he sought—a man seated on a chair amid a frozen lake.

"Is this the matter of urgency you mentioned?" Xavier mused with a shake of his head, his gaze fixed upon Lucian, who was wholly engrossed in his ice fishing.

Lucian chuckled as he glanced in Xavier’s direction, his voice carrying a friendly warmth. "My dear friend, you should have conveyed your plan to visit me here." Lucian’s words prompted a subtle half-smile to grace the corner of Xavier’s lips.

In the blink of an eye, Xavier vanished from the hill and reappeared beside Lucian.

"What has drawn you to this distant corner of the world, my friend?" Lucian inquired without diverting his attention from the ice fishing. He effortlessly waved his hand and another chair placed beside his own before resuming his watch over the fishing hole on the icy lake.

Arching an eyebrow, Xavier regarded Lucian intently. "You ought to cease toying with words, Lucian. You know I’m an impatient person, yet you persist in testing it. Are you courting peril, or—"

Xavier’s words tapered off as he noticed Lucian now fixing a gaze upon him with a playful smile framing his face.

Xavier chuckled, a wry grin tugging at his lips before saying, "Much better, Lucian..." He said and sat on the chair.

"What kind of friend would I be if I didn’t lend you an ear?"

"So, shall we dispense with the charade? Share with me your knowledge of Iris." Xavier’s golden eyes stared into Lucian’s, his unspoken warning clear that he was not inclined to accept vague explanations and seek the unvarnished truth regarding Iris.

Lucian was taken aback by Xavier’s inquiry. Why was Xavier probing into the matter of Iris once more? Hadn’t Xavier already known the truth regarding her past?

"You possess knowledge of her identity and even the one responsible for her death, do you not?" Lucian asked, confused. "What prompts you to seek further inquiries about her?"

Although somewhat surprised by Lucian’s reaction, Xavier realized the sincerity of his old friend’s words. And now he realized that Lucian still didn’t know Iris’ true identity.

"I cannot deceive you, Xavier, and you know that," Lucian continued his words after witnessing Xavier’s lingering doubts.

"Lucian, let me ask, have you ever harbored doubts regarding Iris’ existence in this world?" Xavier wants to know if Lucian has experienced similar suspicions about Iris’ past.

Silence fell between them as Lucian reflected on his initial meeting with Iris.

"I did, at first," Lucian confessed, his gaze distant. "Yet, after several meetings with her, I can affirm that she does not come from the middle realm, as I had initially thought. She is an entirely different person..."

Xavier was stunned by this revelation. He had been looking for confirmation that people resembling Iris did exist in the middle realm, and Lucian had just confirmed this.

A weighty silence lingered once more. Both men are lost in their thoughts.

Lucian remained curious about Xavier’s peculiar act.

In contrast, Xavier’s conviction deepened, now convinced that divine forces were entwining Iris and his destiny.

However, Xavier is plagued by a troubling question: Why Iris Gray? He didn’t remember this young lady, not from this realm or the middle or upper realm.

What confused him even more was that he seemed to be the only person who had never met Iris in the middle realm, a stark contrast to Lucian and Silvana’s experiences.

Xavier turned his gaze toward Lucian once more, seeking clarification. "What makes you certain they are not the same?"

Lucian grappled with his response, aware of Xavier’s unwavering determination. Finally, he disclosed what he knew, "Because the woman I knew is already dead."

Xavier had learned this from Silvana, and Lucian had said so too. He turned his gaze to the distant snow-capped mountains.

After a few seconds, Xavier says, "Could she have been reincarnated?"

"No, I hesitate to believe so," Lucian responded swiftly. "The aura I sensed in Lady Iris is absent in Iris Gray. Hence, I am convinced they are different..."

The difference between what Lucian and Silvana said made Xavier even more suspicious.

Suddenly, a memory appears — The demon that tormented Eric is looking for information about "Lady Iris."

Xavier understood that in this world, Iris was just an ordinary person, unaffiliated with any noble family.

’Could it be... the person the Demons are looking for is the same person Lucian and Silvana met in the middle realm!? Lady Iris!?’ This question suddenly gave him goosebumps for the first time in his life.
