Rebirth as The Vampire Lord's Wife -
Chapter 194: Magical Aura
Chapter 194: Magical Aura
Since Gavriel refused to explain, Iris stopped asking. Nevertheless, they continued discussing various aspects of magic that intrigued her.
After a while, Iris grew increasingly curious about magic and wanted to learn more from a book at the library. She excused herself from Gavriel and asked Justin to accompany her there.
As they reached the library entrance, Justin cast a quick glance at her before opening the door. "What makes you suddenly interested in magic?" he asked curiously.
Iris met his gaze. "Well, my hubby mentioned my talent in magic. That’s why I feel the need to delve deeper into it—"
"Bwahahaha..." Suddenly, loud laughter erupted in the library as Justin burst into laughter.
"Why are you laughing?" Iris frowned, briefly looking at him before heading to the bookshelves in search of the specific book she wanted.
Justin found it amusing hearing Iris refer to his lord as "hubby." Such terms had never been heard in their realm, and he thought it was funny. He couldn’t wait to see his lord’s reaction when Iris addressed him in that manner.
"When did you start calling him that?" He asked after his laugh subsided.
Puzzled by his question, she asked, "Calling him what!?"
Justin picked up a black book, "You know...Hubby...You never said it before," he said while shrugging, catching Iris’s attention.
Iris smiled, realizing what Justin meant. She never called Xavier by that term because it felt awkward.
"Yeah...I never addressed him like that before now. I’m just addressing him like that because I’m talking to you..." She replied casually while browsing the other bookshelves, searching for the magic book she sought. She was so focused on the search that she ignored Justin’s confusion.
The size of the library, four times larger than Xavier’s Library in Silenthill, made her doubt whether she could find the book quickly. What she thought to be an easy task has turned out to be daunting, thanks to Xavier’s vast library.
’If only I could sense the magical aura in the book, it would expedite my search...’ Just as Iris was about to finish that thought, she noticed a purple aura emitting from a black door in a corner, causing her heart to race.
’Why does that aura resemble the one I sensed in the Silver River? Is it Xavier’s barrier?’ Her eyes sharply focused on the door.
Before Iris could move towards the door, Justin remarked, "Oh..." He paused upon seeing her, choosing not to say anything more. "Well, you probably shouldn’t call him that way..."
"What the hell, Justin? I can’t believe you are still bothered by that. It’s not a big deal. Anyway, why not? Isn’t ’hubby’ cute?" She inquired, now curious about Justin’s opinion.
After discovering they all come from the middle realm, she began to suspect that Xavier was no ordinary lord in that place. Even Gavriel, an angel-to-be, referred to him as "Lord." And, a senior witch like Silvana lowered her head while conversing with Xavier.
’Does Xavier belong to the royal family of the middle realm? Why would a royal figure like him end up in this mortal world? What purpose brought him here!?’
Many questions swirled in her mind, making her curious. She wished to ask Justin several times but remembered Gavriel’s reluctance to discuss Xavier’s identity, leaving her hesitant to inquire further. Justin might refuse to talk about Xavier, too.
But then, an idea struck her.
She glanced at Justin with a half-smile, trying to get him to reveal everything she wanted to know by manipulating his thoughts. But after a few seconds, she could only chuckle inside because, even though she tried, she couldn’t control Justin’s thoughts.
’Gosh! Justin’s mental strength is impressive!’ Iris silently praised him even though she felt slightly disappointed that her mind control wasn’t as strong as Justin’s and others.
"Please, just don’t call him like that..." Justin said and looked away, avoiding eye contact. He could feel discomfort in his mind, knowing that Iris was trying to attack his thoughts.
"I’ve found my book," Justin added, moving towards a black leather chair. He pretended to read but prepared to defend his mind if Iris attempted to control it again.
Realizing how powerful Iris’s mind control was now frightened him.
He knew that sooner or later, she would master it entirely, but he never thought she would master it this fast.
Iris’s rapid progress using her ability amazed him. While he had taken centuries to master magic, Iris had achieved it in just a few months.
...
Iris paid no more attention to Justin. She headed towards the black door, emitting a mysterious purple magical aura that captivated her.
As Iris neared the door, the magical aura grew stronger.
’Could the book I’m after be in there?’ she wondered, continuing her approach. Her steps halted just before the door.
Her heart raced as she cautiously reached for the doorknob. Yet, when she attempted to open it, the door remained locked.
Glancing at Justin, engrossed in his book on the sofa, Iris sought his help. "Justin, could you open this door for me? I think the book I want is inside—"
Her sentence trailed off as she noticed Justin’s complexion change from pale to a dark, stormy expression, making her suspicious.
"No, there are no books in that place," Justin replied swiftly, striding towards Iris. "The book you’re seeking is over there." He pointed to the opposite side of the room.
Iris followed his line of sight and was surprised to spot a glass bookcase at the room’s far end.
’Weird! Why didn’t I see that bookcase earlier?’ she pondered.
Iris headed towards the bookcase. Justin was right; all the books inside looked old and related to magic—precisely what she sought.
After checking the book titles, she turned to Justin. "Can I take a few books? I want to read them at home..."
"Of course, these are your husband’s books. You can take as many as you want."
Having selected the book she needed, Iris promptly left the library. However, before exiting, she glanced back at the black door at the room’s end, suddenly recalling its resemblance to the door in Xavier’s bedroom at Darkwood Villa.
